Hi Bay 13 alumni and genetic misfits,
Some posters (myself included), have bemoaned the fact that the quality of trolling has gone downhill on Bay 13. While there are some good trolls, many others are pretty much lame.
I surmised that the reason for this is the amount of posts replying to unoriginal and infantile trolls far outweigh posts replying to intelligent and creative trolls, thereby encouraging the less desirable to stoop lower and lower with every post and troll.
To highlight this, I created a thread http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398696 in which I insulted Geelong supporters by using the "You know you're a Redneck" one liners. As this thread was unoriginal and infantile, I expected this thread to receive many replies during the span of one week.
I was then going to compare it to one of my earlier trolls http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=383711 of which I believe to be intelligent and creative by attacking the Cats management of the salary cap (possibly the only thing they didn't do right this year).
Unfortunately, the first thread mentioned was deleted before the end of the experiment. Rustyhawk or StKildonian removed it for being too low brow before the experiment could run it's course and would not reinstate the thread as it would set a precident. I only wanted to use my threads as example so that posters would react only to one troll (cutting down the bias).
Still, after only a couple of days, that thread reached it's third page without any prodding from myself, surpassing the amount of posts in my intelligent thread. Even with the low statistical data at hand, I feel that my theory has some merit. I'd like to thank those that gave the theory much credibility in a short length of time.
I thank those that participated and now give two further examples to analyse.
Intelligent and creative from Anthony_ (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/member.php?u=32222): http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398502. Good use of satire blending a footy event (the draft) and questionable businessman/politician (pick 666 suited him to a tee).
Unoriginal and infantile from forrrestGump (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/member.php?u=51941): http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398750 (although I believe it was a knee jerk reaction to my experimental thread). Quite a lot of replies here for some reason that was stated earlier.
If anyone can provide examples of good and bad trolls to support my theory, please add them for further discussion.

hahaha don't encourage it ;)
To Hawkamania, firstly thanks for kind words about the post.
Interesting you post this question as to be honest I had a feeling the Carlton thread would bomb..just as I was fairly sure that my silly "Gay Premiers 07" would run pages deep.

Not big-noting myself here, it's just easier to describe threads I have created...
I thought that my "Things I did while the BF site was being upgraded" http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398813 was ok. Apparently not. I recieved a massive 12 replies.
My "Days since Geelong beat Hawthorn" thread http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=396311 which by the way was completely taking the piss, managed to transform into exactly the thread I was taking the piss out of and took in 5 times the replies of my other one.
Low brow wins.
Subtlety does not.
And if anyone mentions my Eagles / pick 3 thread I may lose it.

Seems that way I quite liked how Cheney had taken Ratten hunting......when you understand what happens to people who go hunting with Cheney. ;)
Oh and your pick 3 ...mate well I will stay on topic here and not insult you. ;)

I was thinking of making a fairly debased reply to your 12 things thread skipjack, but you haven't really given me any ammunition to work with yet
I'm not a big fan of stereotyping all of a teams supporters.
I will say though, that we should not judge the quality of a thread by the number of replies.

You're not going to put a "End Thread" after your post as used in the past when you write such amazing posts no-one can refute..?

I thought I left the "12 things" thread fairly open.
Some may have chosen to write what they actually did.
Some may have chosen to try and use it as a starting gag and play around with it a bit (Ie: make up funny / stupid stuff).
And others may have seen that the whole thing was written simply to allow me to post that the Hawks have pumped Essendon 5 times in a row. I'm disappointed in the Bomber fans  ;)

I don't think so Stronzo ... his post actually makes sense (considering the number of absolutely crap threads that have been started by try-hards lately) - maybe the "attention " here is you?
