It 's been a long time since we had a hard man in the starting 22, the only hard nut we got who is intentionally aggressive is Phil Read and he's on the sidelines. We also need more gun midfielders and a nice tall forward who can play on the ground and in the air.
Daniel Chick has delibrately put off contract talks till the end of the season, he said himself that he is in a quandry to choose a return to WA and to play in a premiership team. His presence in our team would ensure some aggression and hard commitment to the ball like Woosha would like. Then again he is 28 next with 3 perhaps 4 seasons left. If he was 25 I would get straight away but we didn't in season 2000.
Paul Hasleby can find the ball in and under and over, we could do nicely with another gun midfielder, that would complement our improving midfield brigade. We have the money to throw in his face so lets get him. He's only 20 or 21 so he's a 10 year player. His contract expires this year. Imagine this brigade:
Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Hasleby, Chick, Braun, Jones
Justin Longmuir could be a coup if we get this talented forward, at 198cm he could be a nice back up ruckman and could be a nice partnership with Michael Gardiner in rotation. The current centre half forwards we got are either too old, injured or just inexperienced, Longmuir has some experience and has the skill to fit into the eagles line up. My dream forward line:
Matera, Wilson, Merenda
Longmuir, Gardiner, Wirrupunda
Lynch as a backman for me.

Keep dreaming...
The only player out of those three you mentioned that I think you may have a slight chance of getting is Dainel Chick. Otherwise, forget it! I know that we will not be giving up Paul Hasleby and Justin Longmuir that easily to any other club.

Frankly I wouldn't want any of them.
I reckon we get Pickett in trade, and draft some more youngsters and go from there.
I think Chick would be good, if he wants to come back to WA then i say we have a go at him.

I don't suppose you feel like trading Daniel Kerr for Jarrad Schofield?....

chrisjudd3, I like the cut of your jib. J longmuir would be a great acquisition as the court jesters of the afl have paid pretty much everyone on their list about double of what their really worth.
To keep some of their younger players convinced that freo is an ok place to be, lots of cash, chicks, and other perks will be thrown from all directions. They cannot keep these financial shinanigans alive, especially when now they have to support fat guts francis.
So something will give, and hopefully we can take.

I absolutely dont know how I know this, but a jib is a type of sail, you know from a boat.
" I like the cut of your jib" could be replaced with " I like the way you think" or if chrisjudd3 is a female it could be replaced with " I like your breasts alot ".
Why are we always talking about getting this guy and trading for that guy??
What happened at the last trading period? Nothing! Did we get better....yes.
I dont want anyone, im content with the talent we already have and im confident that our youngster will get better and replace such players as Milli, Jako and Matera...no need to go trading willy nilly.

I agree with what you say Jod. My main concern was defence but I think that with Hunter, Glass and Lynch we have three talls that will do well. Milli and Jacko also have more years in them.
But one reality of footy is that you have to cut your lists by four at season end. Apart from Harding no-one IMO needs to go but we will have some salary cap problems too. ie players will negotiate raises as we will have been more successful than in the KJ era. So I think we will be delisting Harding if out of contract and Taylor, just because of hisd cost and future playing opportunities. (Freo may move on him) Carroll is in that bracket too. We will then probably need to trade a couple of good players for one established player. Chick IMO is too old to figure in our plans. I think we have a great deal of quality midfielders and wont trade for another.
I would bet on Brauny being traded. This is due to his erratic selection this year and the fact that he is a Vic and may well have indicated a desire to go home. Woosha may be giving others the experience, knowing he wont be around.
I guess Tuckey and Lynch will go back on the rookie list otherwise we would need to delist another two. They can be elevated again next season when the law of averages will ensure we have at least one long term injury at any one time.

I think Frodo has his head and heart in the right place. Harding Carroll are definate choices to go. Ritchie Taylor was good for us last year, but I don't think he has many opportunities at the club. I would hate to see Braun go as he is one of my favourite players, but if he wants to go home, we can't stop him and his heart would not be with the club.
Lynch may be upgraded from the rookie list, but I don't think there is room for Tuckey either as we are doing well with Cox and Gardy and Lynch. Tuckey in my opion has not done enough to warrant his stay at the club. Chick I don't think we need as we are blessed with a talented midfield, he would be a waste of money, and push out a guy who could serve the club for longer than Chick.
We probably have a bit of possible trade bait next year, simply because we have a bevy of quality midfielders, and a limited number of spots. When blokes like Braun, Banfield and (next year) Morrison are struggling to find spots in the team, then I'm doubtful we'll be able to keep them all, even if we wanted to.
High on the priority list next season- a quality small/midsize defender, preferably one who can also play forward. Ideal would be Pickett, since he's quick, dynamic, and stifles his man even when he is playing in the forward pocket.
Also, one more big defender- young, but fairly well established. I think we have the CHF situation sorted between Jako and Lynch, but I still wonder whether or not Glass is the real deal. If not, when Milli retires, we're going to have a bit of a gaping hole at FB. Ideal would be Darren Gaspar, and if by some dumb fluke richmond were prepared to give him up, we'd actually probably be the most likely club to get him, since his brother plays for us, he's west australian, and we have a number of quality midfielders available for trade, something that Richmond are in dire need of.

If some idiots had read properly I didn't endorse the trade for chick but queried the fruits of weighing it up in trade week.
Why wouldn't Longmuir and Hasleby leave freo? Well the fact is that freo has a salary cap struggle and the eagles don't, the eagles will delist some old players and second tier gravy train passengers on their playing list. Eagles can afford two young guns and thats the scenario at the end of the year.
And besides we've seen players leave their clubs when they weren't expected too in AFL history.
So I say bring on Longmuir and Hasleby to the Eagles and besides we won't have early picks like last year so why not trade for players. If we finished near the bottom then maybe keeping picks and not trading would be the best option. But since we're on track for finals action why strengthen a finals side for season 2003??????
Daniel Kerr for Jarrad Schofield?? Well Port u can keep him, we're rebuilding so buzz off and concentrate on your finals campaign, u r yet to a finals game.

We've got 12 rounds left of this season and are looking at a spot in the final eight. So why are you so possessed about other clubs players?
Besides, Haselby will never leave Freo and I highly doubt J'Lo would either. Daniel Chick, I could care less about.
Only 10 rounds left and after tomorrow only 4 more home games unless we can snatch a homie in the preliminary finals.
Tell ya what, that Coughlan kid from Richmond can play a bit. I reckon maybe it would be worth having a go at him. He's an old Wesley boy, taken at #16 in the same draft McDougall was taken at # 5. Showed a fair bit today.
Outside of Harding...i really cant see 3 other guys that stand out for delisting or trading to make room for four youngsters. Maybe Green, although i like him and would like to see him make it, he is now 22 and still not a regular in the team.

We will make the finals but does that mean we stick to the same combination??? no, not necessarily, we can't stay in our comfort zone therefore we must always improve the playing list. Hasleby, Longmuir would suit our team nicely. Remember when we lost the Grand Final in 1991???, we were number 1 in 1991 but lost cos we didn't have a decent ruckman so we got Paul Harding, one year later we won the premiership and Harding beat John Barnes.
i don’t' know if chick would be worth it. he has had a pretty ****ty year and will play better in the future but he is 28. our midfield brigade are getting good and with a few more games they should start to become very good.
JLo, well personally between cox and gardi i think we have a very strong ruck / forward combination. he would be a nice pick up but not necessary in the grand plan.
hasleby would be a fantastic pick up. but i think fremantle will securer his services. they would have to screw up royally for him not to sign. something along the lines of schwaby sleeping with his mum. it ain't gonna happen.
it is our defence that needs to be looked at in the years to come.
Haselby and Longmuir is just never going to happen and if by some act of god it did happen we certainly wouldnt get them cheap. We would lose draft picks, perhaps guys like Wirrpunda, Kerr, Gaspar....quality players. Im happy with the quality we have now and would rather have Wirrpunda and Kerr than Haselby.

After heading about Des Headland's 6 goal performance on the weekend, I think the club would be crazy if we don't work at bringing this potential superstar back home to WA!

Noodle,
Don't you know Fremantle royally screws up a lot in matters of draft, trade and delist matters, eg: Peter Bell????
Gaspar and Mcdougall for defensive posts replacing jak and milli in a few years time.

We've been talking about getting Headland for 2 years now but every year the Lions ask for a first round draft pick.
What worries me about his performance on the weekend is that now theyre gonna demand even more for him (if Freo dont have a go at him as well)

In the papers last year it was reported that Headland wanted to be traded to the eagles last year, and said if Brisbane don't trade him he will come over when his contract finishes, which is this year. So we have a good chance of picking him up cheaply.
Thats if he still wants to come over. Being left out of the Grand Final team probably hurt a lot, and with the eagles rapid rise a move would be very appealing for him. I reckon if the eagles are genuinely interested in him, we will have him next year.

I know the main reason he wanted to come home was family, and I think at least some of them moved to Brissy for this year. Logic suggests the whole family won't want to permanently relocate, so it'd be worth having a shot at him.
It all depends on what the Eagles have to give up in return!!!!!
