Just heard about this.........
PET SOUNDS
6.27.02
By Devin Faraci
Contributing Sources: Variety
The life story of one of pop music's most tragic geniuses is being adapted for the silver screen by Castle Rock Entertainment.
Brian Wilson, the mastermind behind the almost holy music of the Beach Boys (and if you don't believe me, pick up a copy of Pet Sounds today - it's devotional music for people who worship pop) slowly went mad, closing himself off from humanity at the time when his genius was peaking. He was recording a record, Smile, that has become almost legendary in its incompleteness. At a critical stage in recording, Wilson destroyed many tapes, believing that his song Fire was in fact causing fires in the area.
"We hope to capture Brian's life struggle and the underpinnings of his genius, as well as celebrate the extraordinary musical contribution this Mozart from Hawthorne, Calif., has given to the world," said Castle Rock co-founder Rob Reiner.
The movie is being penned by Bryan Goluboff , who also wrote the Basketball Diaries.
Could be very interesting......... :)
Just one note.......the 'Fire' tapes were NOT destroyed that's an urban myth.
