Depends on cost and where the dog will race.

A well bred puppy with everything done including rearing, breaking in and pre training with no expense spared will set you back between $500-$900 for a 10% share. The price fluctation will just depend on the dogs breeding.

Me and a few mates nearly bought a greyhound. You can get a young one before any running with a decent chance of being ok for about 2 grand.

I currently have a small share in a horsie called Belcino, its awesome fun despite the fact our 2 runs have been 8th and 4th

Out of interest, how much profit would you make from racing the dog? Obviously it will depend on results, but as an average figure.

I reckon there would be a huge variance.

If you buy a greyhound for say $50,000, you'd have to pay for it to be trained, you'd have to pay vet fees, etc, so you could be a bit out of pocket if it fails to qualify for runs.

When I go to the TAB and read up on stats, it has the career prize money for each Dog, and the good ones earn around $400,000 or so - that's only a rough figure.

All depends how successful the greyhound is on the track.
