What is it with us and picking future club captains of the club with pick 13?
First Hurn now Ebert.
Now anyhow back to the thread title. Read in the paper sunday that Michael Voss wanted Brisbane to pick up Ebert with their pick 8, touting him as a future captain of the club. I'm sorry i don't have a link to the article as yet, but saw him on Seven news last night and i am liking this kid more every day.
He seems to be a shy but focused kid who really wants to make it into the side next year. He and his family also had no worries about him moving to West Coast, apparently they have accepted what the eagles are trying to do to rid the club of 'culture'.
Have you guys seen this at all, and what do you guys think? Could he be a regular in the side at half forward next year, especially since rojo has retired?

Definitely has tremendous leadership qualities, but so did Rowan Jones :o

Lets just see if the kid makes it before we start dubbing him as a future captain though. Voss did say pre-draft though of all the AIS kids, this bloke impressed him the most.

Masten could be a future captain considering be captained about everything in the juniors. Selwood too, to go with Ebert, gee we like picking upcaptain material players (more with each draft), who knows might end up with a team of leaders/captains  ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't Masten, Ebert and Selwood captains of their respective states?

Selwood wasn't, I think it was the ruckman for Vic Country. It definitely was not Selwood.

Starting to warm to the kid, even though I wouldnt know him from a bar of soap.

My concern remains his 'flight risk' back to Port Adelaide.

He's saying all the right things though.

There are no thinly veiled "There'll always be that temptation" comments.

Blown out of proportion by the media and BF. He's a quality, very mature young kid who comes from a good family, has a very professional approach to his footy I personally would be very surprised if there was a go home factor with him.

Yeah but even guys who haven't left the West said similar things. Pavlich, for example, has said he's going to go back to SA one day but he hasn't yet and that day may only come when he's retired.

Anyhow, with Ebert, I get the feeling that he's more interested in success than playing for Port Adelaide and he'd know that West Coast will give him a good shot at being a successful player within a successful team.

It's probably by virtue of growing up in a great footy family that he'd hold team success, loyalty, being a one club player etc. in high regard. I can't really see him leaving us as long as we do right by him.

Masten, Hurn, Ebert all potential captains - our leadership group will be very strong in a few years time. It will also be a pretty lethal Centre sqaure combo too!

Your basing this on nothing, so your opinion isn't valid
