View Full Version : Favorite metal albums of the 80's........
Ok headbangers........giz yer fave metal albums of the 80's........
Mine:
Motorhead: No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith (1981):
The classic line-up of Lemmy, Philthy, and Fast Eddie in slashing form before a rabid Hammersmith audience. An orgy of sheer power and noise, 'Ace Of Spades', 'Overkill','Bomber', '(We Are) The Road Crew', 'Iron Horse', 'No Class', and my personal fave Motorhead number 'The Hammer' are all here. A classic.
IronMaiden: The Number Of The Beast (1982):
Bruce Dickinson replaces Paul Di'Anno on vocals in a stunning debut. Apart from the title track and 'Run To The Hills' this album contains other gems such as 'Children Of The Damned', '22 Acacia Avenue', 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' and 'Gangland', and 'The Prisoner'. This was the album that set 'The Irons' on their way to world domination in the early/mid 80's.
Black Sabbath: Mob Rules (1981):
Follow-up to 1980's 'Heaven And Hell' and the second album to feature Ronnie James' Dio on vocals, the first with Vinnie Appice on drums. This period of Sabbath's work is imho, a little underrated. Ronnie James' arrival giving the band a new lease of life.
Judas Priest: British Steel (1980):
'The Priest' released some great albums from the late 70's to early 80's. 'British Steel' just nudges out 82's 'Screaming For Vengeance' as my favorite Priest album of the decade.
Metallica: Master Of Puppets (1986):
My personal collection of these guys' material isn't all that big, but of the albums i do possess ('Kill 'Em All', 'Ride The Lightning', 'Garage Days', 'Black Album', 'Garage Inc.'), this is my favorite Metallica work.
Slayer: Hell Awaits (1985):
Of the whole speed/death/black metal genre, these guys are the masters. Tom Araya's vocals are amazing on this album, particularly on the title track.
Circus Of Power: Self Titled (1989):
Dunno much about these guys, but i remember a mate giving me a cassette(!) of this in the late 80's. Can't seem to find this on CD anywhere, although i'm sure it's out there. Great collection of songs with 'Motor', 'Heart Attack', and the wonderfully sleazy 'White Trash Queen' highlights. Anyone got any info on these guys?
Accept: Restless And Wild (1983):
One of Germany's finest, these guys released some great work in the early 80's, this is my favorite. The opening track on this album 'Fast As A Shark' is worth the price alone.
That's all for now........whatta ya's reckon?
where's wally?

Wow!! German Metal masters, ACCEPT, get a mention!
Would of been great had they toured. I have most of thier collection on LP, including Fast As A Shark - Balls to The Wall...the title cut is an absolute pearler! - Metal Heart - Russian Roulette
Have Motorhead, Iron Maiden and Metallica also, Masters Of Puppets is definately a masterpiece although Ride The Lightning rates highly also.
I love MANOWAR's Fighting The World....just a powerful set!
(couldn't believe my sister **Bon Jovi fan** bought home the album and couldn't stop raving about 'Carry On' as the class theme song)
I'm always bias about Van Halen, Def Leppard (High n' Dry -Pyromania and of course Hysteria) and Twisted Sister
Too many to mention....AC / DC's Back in Black and Motley Crue's Shout at The Devil although Livewire from Too Fast from Love stands solid........did you pick it at the start of Charlie's Angels (the Movie??)
Got a buzz on Road Trip flick when the guys where mucking around on the bus and TWISTED SISTERs 'I Wanna Rock' bobbed up!! it was hilarious!! great to see Hollywood hasn't forgotten MTV's most controversial video requested bands of the 80's!

Same here, although 'Constrictor' (1986) wasn't bad. 'Killer' is my favorite Cooper album.

From the "Where Are They Now?" file..........
Any of you blokes remember the English band Chateaux?
They released two great albums in the mid-80's, 'Fire Power' (1984), and 'Highly Strung' (1985) and all but disappeared.

Very good album, easily the Crue's best work,
Although i still have memories of borrowing a mate's brand new copy of the follow-up "Theatre Of Pain" and feeling horribly let-down. A shocking album, i never spent my hard-earned on anything Crue after that abomination.

Rusty, about 10 years back I bought "Alice Coopers Greatest Hits" which is from the mid 70's I think. It's an absolute gem. I also have plenty of time for his late 80's stuff ie Trash & Hey Stoopid.
Those early Crue albums have some grunt too.

Yes they were the yardstick by which all other US hard rock rock bands based themselves on in the 80's.

Shazza, yep the Black Roses soundtrack did actually get released on disc not sure about here but is quite rare everywhere these days. I own one.
Mark-cum-Marcie Free on vocals on vocals - ex King Kobra/Signal/Unruly Child/solo is the highlight for mine - great voice..shame about the change of gender a couple years ago.
