Draft History: Selection 5 overall 2005

After an exciting debut in 2006 where he played 9 games and kicked 4 goals after suffering a bout of glandular fever early in the pre-season, Pendlebury hit the scene hard in 2007 playing through the midfield and on the half forward flank.

Pendlebury averaged 18.9 disposals during his second season at the level including 10.4 kicks per game, 8.6 handballs, 5.4 marks and 3.3 tackles. He also managed 0.9 goals per game proving that he is a goal kicking midfielder.

He was able to gather 20+ possessions on 14 occassion throughout the 2007 season the highest of which coming against West Coast in the semi final where he gathered 26 possessions and also kicked the sealer.

Pendlebury finished second behind Joel Selwood in the 2007 NAB Rising Star Trophy and also finsihed runner-up in Collingwood's best & fairest, the Copeland Trophy.

Pendlebury will push into 2008 looking for further improvement with another solid pre-season behind him with a little extra bulk and better fitness levels.

Scott Pendlebury has already proven that he is the future of the Collingwood Football Club, but what else lies ahead for the silky midfielder. Maybe greateness.

Many thanks to Favourites for this highlights package

It's the husband's Canon Eos something or other. I "borrowed" it. He'd have a fit if he knew I dragged it all the way to the MCG. Someone apparently bent the pins in the part where you put in the card. Luckliy he managed to fix it.

Will try hard to get there on Friday. There's also an open day on sat 15th advertised on the C'wood website.

Small thing written about him in todays Herald Sun, mainly talking about what he wants for next year and how he thinks he can improve. It was on a double page spread in sport with the future stars of 2008.

Scott lives in Williamstown (and so did I until recently). I would frequently see him at the supermarket, and sometimes with his girlfriend.

My son would always say...."dad look, it's your favourite player"...loud enough so Scott would hear and I'd feel like a right tool.

On one occassion, I grabbed a texta off the shelf, and in the bottom of the pusher was a little pink sherrin (it is my daughters'). I said "Scott could you sign this for my daughter". Then realised that she wasn't with me...just my son, so said, "for me actually"....and felt sooo stupid!

Anyway, seems like a nice kid. I think he could really be the future of the club (more so than Thomas), and I like his odds for the Brownlow this year ($201)...could be a smokey!

There's one consolation, didaka; you know your player poses a gold-class threat to the opposition when they start trolling shite like this about him. Take it as a compliment; and just lay a curse on the twisted little head of whoever was responsible.:thumbsu:

Started off pretty slowly today, and we didn't see much of him until late in the first quarter, and was still struggling to get in the game making a few errors here and there.

Began to improve mid way through the game and showed his class when he had to ball although we would have liked him to have the pill more often.

When push came to shove and the game was on the line he got his hand on it a few handy times and used it well with the quick hands out to running and free players which help set up plenty of play over the ground.

On todays form I would rank him 6 / 10

It's been a little bit of a slow start for Pendles this season, which can be forgiven right now.

He is yet to be unleashed in the midfield for a large spell at this stage it seems, and it seems like he is being held back at the minute.

And don't believe this anti Collingwood bullshit that he doesn't want the footy in close. He is just as much an inside player as he is outside, he just doesn't have the form at the moment to win the footy 20-25 times, but it will come. It is a long season.

One thing I notice is that he is a little top heavy compared to 2007 which may explain a little.

Being in the field of body management, and sports conditioning, I know the effects bulk can have on sporting performance, as well as the fact I also bulked up considerably in an off-season a few years back.

It can take a while to get used to carrying around that extra weight on the footy field, but every bit of my confidence is in Pendles, and we all know a player of this class and commitment will have an impact on the season.

Well I knew it wouldn't take long (and it didn't) for the young fella to find some form.

He was there from the get go, getting us away to a good start, conducting traffic, and using his class to send us forward.

All he needed was some time in the middle and it was a given that he would have an impact, and he did.

Got a little quieter as the game went on, but was there when it counted.

Good to have him back.

Thought he was one of our standouts today, if not our best. Would've been nicer to see him use the footy by foot more, but there just wasn't a lot of space today and he found most of his footy inside.

He didn't at all look restricted (OP rumor) and ran hard all day which is good because he has put in 2x 20+ disposal games in consecutive weeks putting aside any talk of him going backwards, he looks like he is about to hit form.

I would like to see him start throwing up a few 25+ possession games soon enough, not each week but here and there.

Played a good all round game last night.

The good signs are the Pendles is maturing into a very good footballer and his best and worst arn't a huge distance apart in terms of output on the field.

He wasn't dominant last night but still managed 25 disposals, a classy goal, 8 marks and 6 tackles which shows he stayed in the game all night and is maturing as a midfielder who you can always count on to ave a good input.

Last night was his 5th game in a row where he gathered 20+, 3 of them being 25+.

He really is in great form right at this moment and playing confident footy.

Someone said it on the board during the week, Pendles is quickly becoming our best player. In all seriousness, he probably is now.

His class sets him apart from most midfielders in the game, he now consistently gets good numbers higher than the 18-20 mark like a Dal Santo but instead pushes to 23-26 now on a regular basis and uses near 100% of the footy he wins be it inside or outside.

Boy his game was good against the cats and there is so much more to come.

Not many players are in this class.

I'll say it again, Pendlebury is our best player. He had a massive impact yesterday playing predominantly in the forward line during the day, racking up disposals, bringing other players into the game, kicking a couple and dishing of a couple.

He is an A grade midfielder now and proved he can have a real impact in other areas of the ground.

His body is hard and strong now and in a year or 2 he will be pushing for AA honors with the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Cooney, Mitchell etc.

The boy is a star. His upside is unbelievable.

Check out his tackle numbers too. He's not like Del Santo who just goes one way.

The best thing about it is that not only does he tackle often, his tackle effectiveness is as good as anyone at the club, aside from maybe Medhurst. Just about every one of his tackles causes an ineffective disposal.

He was ceartainly conspicuous by his absence yesterday. We'll really need him against Carlton. Where can I get one of those wee suicidal emoticons? With Rocca's on-going ankle, I need one for my buddy thread too.:(
