Interesting, because it is usually the blokes with alot of upper body muscle that tend to pull hammys more frequently.. But Gumby tore it last year aswell I'm pretty sure.:thumbsd:

gumby does not have huge upper body muscle...wouldnt worry too much about a hammy tear this early, although he has done a few now?

Fair dinkum this better not become regular otherwise we have picked the worst one out of the top 7!

Gumbleton will be a superstar key forward in 5 years time. Mark my words.

Good one chicken little, the sky is falling , the sky is falling.
So what he has had a couple of hammy injuries. So have a number of players who have got over them. Way too early to be complaining just yet.

Maybe, we will see. He still has to prove himself and if he keeps doing hamstings he won't. He better not become a Heath James! Hamstrings are a pain in the arse to get over!

No he hasn't. Whilst he has showed "signs" of a good player, I friken hope he doesn't become a injury prone KPP! All Gumbleton is, is a player with potential to be a quality CHF.

Mark my words, he'll be a fantastic player down the track. So what if he's having a few injury troubles early on in his career - the same can be said for a few other KPP's taken early in that draft (Thorp and Hansen).

Given him time.

A guy called James Hird was an injury magnet.
Just about any football injury you could think of, and others, he had.

He is one of the greatest players the game has known!

Let's not get too worried just yet!

quite a theory......its his hammy, not his pectorial.

It comes down to the strength and flexibility of the hamstring, and its ability to withstand the load placed upon it. Upper body bulk has nothing to do with it.

Heavier the upper body the more load placed upon it, I would of thought?

no such thing. if anything, muscle imbalances in the leg may contribute to it....but essentially, its the ability of the hamstring to handle the load placed upon it.

anyway, mcnabb's back this week. good luck vs the giants. your boys need the win to keep in touch with the NFC wild-card!

Sounds like you know much more on the subject than me mate, so I'll leave it alone for now.

And thanks, fingers crossed :thumbsu:

think your being a bit harsh bomber1, pavlich didnt do anything untill towards the end of his second year, and only started to really cause problems in his third year. now look at him. gumby will be a great asset, or alternatively you can trade him to freo :D

Wasn't it reported as a strain and not a tear?

i agree - simple physics tells you that more load/weight for the legs to carry is going to stress the muscles more. a few blokes spring to mind here - david calthorpe , mcphee and matthew lloyd - they all built up a lot of upper body thru weights in various pre-seasons and resulted in leg injury problems. mcphee is training to be slimmer - likewise courtney johns at the moment.

a strain is a tear, except its only a small one

Wouldn't be worried.

This is par for the course with young KPP kids.

Their bones have grown faster than their muscles, once their body matures, the problems settle down.

Well I'd rather him do a hammy now then during the season proper...

I can't believe the over-reaction in some quarters over a hamstring strain. Unreal. It's a physical game, it happens - and it's in the off-season. It's no big deal

Your right a strain is a tear, but not necessarily a small one. Strains are graded between grades 1-3 depending on the % of muscle fibres that are torn. Ie- grade 1 strain = <50% of muscle fibres are torn.

Shit! Hope it doesnt hold him back to much in his pre season. Know how important these pre seasons are especially for kids.

a spell on the sidelines at this time of the year might be a good thing.

gumby might want to revise his run up shane watson said his hammy is feeling better since he focused on placing his feet under his body opposed to way in front.

Could be a knights pet project???
