The oft maligned Tarkyn Lockyer has been snapped up for the second consecutive year by consistent poster Tarkyn_24 in preparation for the 2008 season. Tarkyn Lockyer enjoyed a consistent 2007 AFL season, finishing third in the Copeland Trophy, one vote behind winner Travis Cloke and games difference behind ball maestro Scott Pendlebury. Tarkyn's greatest strengths in 2007 were his versatility, which was proven in a wonerful performance against a number of teams from unusually positions, particularly against the Adelaide Crows early in the season. Tarkyn also showed improved pace and agility, and appeared to have overcome his knee reconstruction and foot injuries from 2003 and 2004.

Entering the 2008 AFL season, Tarkyn has played 79 consecutive AFL games, and will be looking to continue this record throughout the season.

There is also the possibility that the brave utility may be given the Collingwood captaincy, something that he was almost certain to recieve before his injury and form woes of previous seasons. Hopefully he can emerge with the captaincy, although, if he doesn't, it won't matter; Tarkyn is a team leader anyway.

Tarkyn's Leadership Qualities

Are highlighted in this extract of a Ryan Cook interview...

When he speaks of “knuckling down”, Cook, who will be the 1070th player ever to pull on the famous Collingwood guernsey, explains that much of his development can be attributed to the assistance he’s received from friend and team mate Tarkyn Lockyer.

“Tarks has been great, and his good form has been rubbing off on me I think.

“I lived with him for the first few months I was down here at the club, and he’s helped me a lot ever since. He’s taken me under his wing in a way, been a bit of a father-figure to me, and worked with me on touch, weights and skills each week.”

Now, with his first AFL appearance only days away, news has spread to Cook’s family and friends, many of whom live on the Peninsula, and who he says are nearly as excited as he is.

This is one of the main reasons he is, and has always been, a contender for the captaincy. Imagine how disadvantaged Tarks is by having a complete stranger in the house, despite a newborn kid and a wife already occupying the house. Obviously, this guy would do anything for Collingwood. Shown in his do-or-die attitude-he is a role model and the perfect leader for the Pies.

A quote from Strauchanie's book 'Bryan Strauchan: My Story' about Tarks.

"24. Tarkyn Lockyer - Despite trying to copy Scott Burns's hair cut, Tarkyn 'Lock-It-In' is a good friendly bloke. He is second in the AFL in smiles, just behind Brad Johnson."

:D

That reminds me a bit of one of my mates. He used to come every weekend to watch the footy with me, and we were watching a Bulldogs v Collingwood match this day. and I'm rabbiting on about Lockyer, and he just goes, "does that bloke ever stop ****ing smiling?" After watching the game, I realized, he never ****ing stops grinning. Even when he goes down injured, he's still got a grimace that looks like a smile.
