skipworth is an interesting one. Knights said he wants youngsters but skipworth has been training with us. I dont really want him because he might take up space. I would rather see hislop, monfries, houli, jetta and dempsey in the midfield! I wonder if we will pick up Cloke. I hope not.

Skipworth can't be drafted as a mature rookie because he has previously been on an AFL list.

I reckon the top four in the PSD will go like this -

1. Collard
2. Dunn
3. Pfieffer
4. Welsh

Who we take, is anyone's guess.

Didn't Cloke sign up with Williamstown?

Skipworth played for Bendigo last season... well, that is before he was injured!

As for my guess of the PSD, you'd think it would be a project ruckman like Bellchambers and the other might be a young man that experts had touted to go reasonably high in the National Draft... Ash Arrowsmith!

Bellchambers
Sampi

Rookie
Trotter
Little

Being a bit different I know but would look like a genius if it came off. I am pretty sure Trotter and Little are eligble for rookie draft although not sure if nominated. If not throw Arrowsmith in there.

i would be furious if that happended. Sampi is overweight and weve already got too many players of his type. Little and Trotter did jackall for hawthorn and kangaroos

Trotter did nominate.

I'd love to get him, doubt we will.
This kid has a serious amount of talent, I'd love us to take a punt on getting his body right.

Sampi is an interesting one.
He's a freak, and whilst he has issues, they aren't the kind that bring others down.

He'd be a punt, but anyone we take is.

And boms, I don't think we do have a player of his type.
Unlike Lovett, Davey etc, Sampi can lead and jump as well as crumb.

He's a different player to anyone on our list.

This is from the AFL website, it says that we only have 1 senior list draft pick and 3 rookie list draft picks.... Is this right?...

I thought we only had 2 Senior and 2 Rookie listed draftee's.

The above post is wrong as we have 2 PSD and 2 Rookie selections

With a bit of the late mail around i'm going out on a limb

1: Gourdis - While he may not fill an immediate need, he is one of those picks that IF he paid off he would have a big upside. IF he gets past Richmond, which the late mail is saying he will, i'm not sure he will get past Melbourne, time will tell
2: Bellchambers

Rookie : McGinnity
Rookie : Atkinson

EIDIT: I posted them around the wrong way first time.......

You'd reaken that the AFL website would be right. huh.

Well I guess it doesn't really matter anyway, half of the PSD'ees turn out dud's anyway. or just good but really stupid. (eg. Pevrill.) < he's a good player but has the worst decision making.

Don't get me wrong there have been great players that have come out of the PSD. (eg. Big Q, M.J, Matt Priddis ect. ect.)

Have you heard the names Marcus Pickett and Shane Harvey...possibly the stupidest reason I seen given for picking a player up (particularly one that has just been delisted by his original club).

I reckon you're onto something with Bellchambers and Atkinson.

Can't see us taking Gourdis and McGinnity.

I reckon we'll take someone with our first pick no one has talked up on here.

We're definately not picking up cloke.

Bombers pass on Cloke

Jon Ralph in Hobart
December 11, 2007 12:00am
ESSENDON coach Matthew Knights says today's pre-season and rookie drafts shape as vital for the club's future but his plans don't include recruiting Jason Cloke.

Cloke's AFL career seems over after the Bombers decided to bypass the former Magpie for younger talent despite his excellent year playing midfield and wing for the club's VFL affiliate Bendigo.

While some clubs virtually ignore the pre-season draft and have a fleeting interest in the rookie list, Knights says today will be just as important as last month's national draft.

He will monitor today's 11am draft via telephone with Essendon recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro, with the Bombers on a five-day pre-season camp in Tasmania.

Knights says the Bombers have put plenty of time and effort into their two pre-season draft picks, as well as both rookie selections.

"We are going to use all of those selections and we will predominantly go young again. It was our philosophy at trade week and at the national draft and it will be our philosophy tomorrow," he said before the Bombers' training session at North Hobart Oval.

"The draft is done online, so so I will be on a hook-up with Adrian by phone, and when it gets our selection, we will have a discussion if we need to.

"We believe the national draft was only the first part of the draft. We took four players, but we have got another four picks in this draft and who is to say these players won't end up as credentialled or play as many years as the players we have just drafted, so we see it as vitally important."

Essendon has had an array of young talent training at the club -- including juniors Ashley Arrowsmith and Tom Bellchambers -- and Knights said several clubs were eyeing Arrowsmith. But Cloke does not figure in the club's plans.

"It's a little bit difficult. I haven't had a discussion with him for a while and he's signed to play with Williamstown. Probably with the way we are going with our younger philosophy we will probably go for younger players," Knights said.

The Bombers started their week-long camp, which will incorporate a trip to Cradle Mountain, with mixed news on the injury front.

Boom youngster Jay Neagle is back in training after a scan showed his foot stress fracture had healed. But only minutes into the club's first running session of the camp, No. 6 draft selection David Myers damaged his hamstring slightly and will be nursed through the rest of December.

"It's not too significant but he tightened in the string, and there is a little spot there, so we will just look after him for two or three weeks. It's not a major scenario," Knights said.

Essendon will travel to Bairnsdale for its January community camp and Knights says the young players will revel in the time away from home.

"With my philosophy of getting young players into the team, we really have to get to know each other a bit better."
