View Full Version : The Tassie Sponsorship - How much could we ask for in 2011?

I read an article in the Examiner earlier this year that suggested that for each year that Hawthorn plays in Tassie (just the 4 games), this brings in $20 million into the Tasmanian economy. Assuming this is the case, how much more could we potentially ask for in our next sponsorship deal with Tassie if we decide to go on with it?

The current deal is set up with incentives for Hawthorn, Preliminary final and grand final appearances will see the Hawks net some nice bonus's. If the Hawks are going strong in 2011 then I would think that the Tassie government could offer more.

Willing to bet Hawthorn wont be playing 4 games in Tas after the end of this agreement.

The $ reasons for doing so will be diminished, the net gain wont be that much and there is every chance the AFL will need the club to play more games in Melbourne due to stadium contracts.

Don't take financial stability for granted - when you're on a good thing, stick to it.

the next deal we will only play two i think. We originally signed because we wanted to get the Most MCG matches as possible, and the fewest TD games as possible. We are getting better, and therefore the AFL will give us more MCG games, and less TD if we ask.

If a Vic team relocates (even partially) out of MCG games, we should see a direct drop. Would expect either 2 or 3 games if the status quo remains, if 'G becomes available, might drop to only 1 or 2.

Don't think we can afford to be seen to be 'pulling out' of Tassie, but worry 1 or 2 games won't be enough for the Government.

Then again, if we grow to the point of getting more away games in melbourne maybe we can have the best of both worlds?

3 is a good number.

I think the best outcome is we keep the amount of sponsorship, play 3 instead of 4 games in tassie and play more games in Melbourne i.e MCG.

8 MCG Home games
3 Tassie Home games
7 Away games in melbourne ( 5 at MCG)
4 Interstate games

15 Vic
3 Tassie
4 Interstate
Doesnt sound too bad to me and we keep 3 million dollars a year from Tassie too.
