Essendon to hold pre-season Tasmania camp
Wednesday, 5 December 2007
Essendon will hold a five-day training camp - known as The Amazing Camp - in Tasmania starting Monday, 10th December.
As part of the camp, the team will hold a 1-hour open training session for the fans and media at North Hobart Oval from 3pm.
Two players from the Lauderdale Football Club will join in the Bomber's training session.
Meanwhile, two players in Essendon's rehabilitation group, Jay Neagle and Courtney Johns, and assistant coach, Gary O'Donnell, will coach a training session with Lauderdale's U/15, U/17, U/19 and some senior players at 4pm at their home ground (Dona road, Lauderdale).
Lauderdale is one of Essendon's affiliate clubs (for information about the club Phil Giffard, President, Lauderdale Football & Sports Club on 0418 125 255).
Essendon will take part in various training activities over the five-days including hiking, sand dune training and water based exercise.
The program has been put together by the club's High Performance Manager, John Quinn, who has lived and worked in Tasmania.
"Not only will Tasmania provide us with a change of scenery, which will freshen the players, it will also provide us with training options that we simply don't have in Victoria," Quinn said.
"Take the sand dune training we will do near Strahan - they are the biggest sand dunes I have seen in my life and will be an excellent training tool. The players will get some really good work into their legs in that session.
"We will also have a few surprises for the team and I think this camp will be excellent for team bonding and to further develop the players' fitness base."
Highlights of the Tasmania camp will be shown on Bombert.tv soon

If you get the chance, pick up a copy of today's (Tuesday 11 December) Herald Sun (not online). There is a little write up with lots of photos of our boys high platform diving.
Needless to say, the paper had a bit of fun about Lloydy.

Beat me to it. Diving makes them look very unco-ordinated doesn't it?

That picture that the Herald Sun said was Lovett was actually Davey, you can see lovett in the backround standing next to Hocking and Natrat.

Ah yes, of course it is! As I said, I didn't think it looked like him! I shall go and change it :)

Just out of curiousity, who's the bloke between Davey and Lovett-Murray?
Also, it's Kyle Reimers on the far left and not Andrew Welsh, yeah?

Are black speedos part of the team kit, or just a coincidence they all have them?

Follow the leader: New coach Matthew Knights leads the Bombers as they hit the sand dunes on Tasmania's west coast this week. Picture: Michael Dodge
First, Matthew Knights is helping raw-boned ruckman Tom Bellchambers churn through the sand on the youngster's first day at Essendon, literally holding his hand as chains of Bombers collectively push upwards.
Then he is battling to hold off a fatigued Alwyn Davey as his new bunch of assistants tease the 37-year-old coach about phantom chasers such as Tony Liberatore and Sean Denham.
Moments later, he is challenging his players to support Courtenay Dempsey after the effort becomes too much and the contents of his stomach are evacuated on to the pristine white sand.
As Essendon's list strives to improve speed, strength and knowledge on its week-long Tasmanian training camp, Knights is alongside the players every step of the way.

Bomber tv footage of The Amazing Camp
Thursday, 20 December 2007
If you have ever wanted to watch your favourite Bomber players running up a 60 metre sand dune then this is your lucky day.
Bomber tv now has behind the scenes footage from the recent The Amazing Camp in Tasmania including an interview with high performance coach, John Quinn, about a team run up Mt Wellington, a failed but funny water training exercise and the exhausting session on Henty Dunes near Strahan on the west coast.
Quinn also reveals who was the worst singer in a private team Karaoke session too.
The five day training and team bonding session was an outstanding success and the Essendon coaching staff and players believe it has helped considerably with communication and building relationships.
Footage of the players being woken at 4:45am by former elite police officers and taken on a two day military style camp will be on the Bomber tv soon.
