No player divides Collingwood fans as much as Egan does. He has good skills and pace, but has been labeled 'lazy' and 'undisciplined.'

With a bumper draft expected in 2008, there is pressure on Egan to perform to maintain his spot on the list. Egan adds a little bit of excitement and X-factor to the Magpies, and would be a valuable addition to the team.

Has anyone got any pre-season reports about Egan?

Admittedly I haven't read all of the reports, but I'm keen to get an idea about how he's progressing.

Cheers.

Good on you you've taken on a risky player here. All going well will be a star but could also fade away. I think he will make it, main critisicm is him being lazy but dont beleive this sometimes class and time give this impression. Not a sure thing but he has shown good signs in senior games so far my money is on him.

Pwoah! Look at those guns!

If he comes good, then he could be a key player in the team as he has that touch of flair we need. Get to it Ego, give us a massive year.

He could be awesome or he could be nothing. It's unusual to have both ends of the spectrum covered like that. I hope he gets a fair bit of game time.

Egan has played in the last two pre-season games. I haven't watched any live, but apparently his form has been mixed.

Collingwood play in Shepparton next Friday night, which I'll be watching, so hopefully he can get a run and show some improvement.

The whole team's form has been mixed, but it's early days.....
All the best to Chris for today's game. Looking forward to seeing him play.

He was excellent today and worked very hard. At one point he and Fraser made a good defensive combination.

Chris was singled out for praise in either The Age or the Herald today, can't remember which. A great beginning to the year.

I thought he was very good against the Crows in the win at Adelaide last year, then went out against team rules and missed a game and then got injured.

I really hope he starts producing his potential as that gives us another X-factor player like Dids, Neon and Daisy.

Was just wondering about this bloke. He's sort of in the shadow of all the other young Pies that have kicked along. He was a top 10 pick back 2004(although it was a poor draft) he should be expected to step up now surely.

He only played one game last year before getting injured.

He has shown good form during the pre-season matches and MM notes that he has improved his attitude and work ethic.

Could have a break out year.

Chris Egan is focused on a big 2008 season

After his 2007 season was ruined by a knee injury, Chris Egan has emerged as a much improved player during the pre-season and is ready to come of age in 2008.

The 21-year-old, who was the No. 10 overall pick from the 2004 draft, has managed 25 games in three seasons with the Magpies, but added only one to his career tally last year (round six against Adelaide) before injuring a medial ligament in a VFL game.

But with a strong pre-season campaign behind him including excellent performances in regional challenge matches against Port Adelaide and last week in his home town of Shepparton in the win over Hawthorn, Egan is ready to stake a claim for a regular senior berth.

“I’ve gone back to good form, I haven’t played for a long time. It was good to get out there against West Coast a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve held my spot for the last three weeks, and hopefully I can take it into round one,” Egan told CTV at the Lexus Centre on Thursday.

Egan admits it was difficult, both mentally and physically, to recover from such a lengthy layoff last year, but says his team mates have been instrumental in helping him through and he wants to repay them with some good on-field form.

“It was very tough and a lot of things happen on and off the field, it catches you mentally and it gets pretty tough.

“But I dug deep and had a good crack, and the boys have been behind me 100 per cent. So it’s good to have them there and it gets you over the line, and here I am, 2008, ready to have a good year for them.”

Having played most of his football at Collingwood as a half forward flanker, Egan has performed well on the wing during the pre-season, using his pace and skill to generate drive from the midfield, but wants to prove his versatility in a number of positions.

“I like to get up forward, but Mick also likes to put me down back and create run, carry it for the boys and open the game up with my foot skills and my awareness of the game.”

Chris and Nick Maxwell were representing Collingwood today at the AFL Next Goal breakfast at the MCG. I asked him how he was going and where he tought the team would end up this year. He said they were expecting to win the premiership; "It's our year."
I said it was a shame about last year - getting so close, and he said; "Yeah, we played the grand final, but a week too soon." Hopefully our timing will be spot on this year.
NB: while players from other teams sat crunching their crispy bacon to the end, Chris and Nick went off early to train.:thumbsu:

Here's a shot of Chris and Eddie on Family Day.

I was happy with Egan's game on the weekend. He had 21 possies and 9 marks. According to the Hun, he had two clangers. He added some run to the side and set up a bit of play.

He gave away a free and a 100m penalty which was disappointing, but he returned well to the side that he hadn't been a part of since halfway through last year.

Round 2 v Brisbane

Egan was disappointing. He gave away the first goal of the match with a dangerous kick in the backline. The conditions were difficult, but Egan didn't put his body on the line.

He had 9 possessions, 1 mark, 1 goal and 2 tackles.

He is under pressure to keep his spot in the team.

Egan was dropped for the match against Richmond.

He played in the VFL match against Williamstown, but did not kick a goal or get in the best.

Egan hasn't played AFL for about four weeks now and has not done much in the VFL.

His career is well and truly on the line.

What's the problem, Bradrowe? The year started with such high hopes for Chris. Is it physical, mental or political?
