I was just about to ask NH the EXACT same thing, Bubblegoose! So, NH, are you having a change of heart? Maybe starting to like the Saints' chances, now that Gehrig's back and we've got a big sponsor? Maybe the club'll be getting a few more sponsors than they were expecting?

Saints supporters come marching in (http://www.saints.com.au/tabid/5315/News/NewsArticle/Default.aspx?newsId=54376)
1:26 PM Tue 18 December, 2007

for saints.com.au

With one week to go until Christmas, our members have rallied and over
13,000 supporters have joined in just four weeks.

Ben Hall, General Manager Marketing and Membership Services
said, “We’re in great shape and are aiming for 17,000 members pre-xmas.
This is my seventh season involved in membership and marketing for the Saints
and it’s fair to say that I’ve never seen a response so good in such a short
period of time !”

“Our members can really feel the “buzz” that’s building here at the Club and
because we are offering such good value it’s a great time to jump on board and support the Sainters as we push forward to a huge year in 2008.”

Reserved seats cut off is this Friday 21st December and with over 1,000 “new” seat requests already if you don’t renew by this Friday then your favourite seat will be
almost impossible to get back.

4,000 reserved seat holders are yet to renew and we’d hate to see our best supporters miss out so make sure your forms are

This Friday is an important day as it’s also the cut off date for the free pre-xmas DVD.
This inspirational DVD is a once-off and wont be available in any retail stores.

Call 1300 734 134 now to ensure you don’t miss the chance to be there when the Saints come marching home in 2008!

I'm one of those 4000 reserved seat holders that has to renew by Friday. It seems membership sales are going fairly well when you take into consideration the fact that we started 4 weeks later than usual. It's been a very productive off-season and hopefully our supporters continue to jump on board.

If I just became a member, I can get into games an sit in the Saints members area right? What if I went with mate/s that go for the Saints and the team we're playin, they couldn't sit with me right? So I'd have to sit in GA with them, and then if I wanted to go I'd be on my own and wheres the fun in that?

Can you buy guest passes? MCC style?

Oh wait, I got no idea how it works....could I use my Saints membership, and get in to normal GA for saints membership ticket prices?

You dont have to get a reserved seat, the standard membership is an 11 game membership which gives GA to the 11 home games, you can then get a reserved seat package on top of that but you dont have to.
Basically the 11 game membership is you paying for 11 GA tickets in advance and receiving voting rights and a members pack as well

Yep

You just scan your membership ticket and you can sit (almost) anywhere on Level 3. If you get to the game early enough, you can always go to the ticket window with your membership and ask if there are any seats on Level 1 available too. The only games where you can't just rock up and sit on Level 3 are the fully ticketed games. These are the home games that we play against the bigger clubs like Collingwood and Essendon. In this case you need to go to a ticketmaster, present your membership, and get allocated a reserved seat. You only have to pay the booking fee so it will cost you about an extra $6.

27 Dec 2007, 02:01
Not to validate Nexus Helen's views, but I believe there was a Thomas backlash last year that cost us in the vicinity of 3 - 5 K memberships.

The improved second half of the 2007 season combined with a growing acceptance of Ross Lyon and great recruitment of staff and players. Add to this with a new managerial regime which are dedicated to providing the necessary resources for success - all features combine to give the supporters a much more positive outlook coming into 2008.

I predict that we'll pick up those 3 -5 K lost memberships from last year plus some natural growth as well. This all suggests the likelihood of a very healthy membership this coming year.

28 Dec 2007, 21:59
What do you think is a realistic target for memberships in 2008?

The 40,000 target set for 2007 was very silly. This was a very wishful thinking kind of target. Not very realistic for a club like St.kilda.

I think 34,000 is very achievable, providing we get off to a decent start in rounds 1-12. This would give the Saints their highest membership tally ever!

For the record, 32,327 (2006) is our current record. Anything above this figure would be fantastic. In 2002, we only had 17,696 members. Just goes to show how much the football club has grown professionally in the last 5 years.

How do they predict the amount of supporters? like the 360k figure. That would be almost impossible to predict accuratley. I would ditch that, and just leave the membership tally on the official site (like they did in 2007)

I noticed they set a very achievable membership target (unlike the 40k last year)

ChrisFooty

the number of supporters was taken from a healrd sun survey a couple of years ago.

I think it's a terrible idea. How could the HS accuratley obtain a specific number through surveys? They did not survey me, and im buying my membership within the next couple of weeks.

I liked the idea of the official site listing the official membership tally, as this number is accuratley known and cannot be disputed. This 360k figure seems ludicrious, as it would be impossible to know the true figure.

If the HS used one of those surveys that calls 1000 random people and then make a figure out of those, i think it's silly. Much like television ratings and how they are compiled.

Just my thoughts anyways;)

Apart from that, what's it trying to say to us: that there's 330,000 supporters out there who don't sign up for memberships at they ought to be ashamed of themselves? Are we back to the "Don't just love it, live it!" campaign? Guilt is not a good insentive to get us to lovingly become a member of the club. It only makes people resentful.

Roy Morgan does a poll each year and we are listed as having 363,000 supporters so I imagine the club have used these figures

Here is the link (http://www.roymorgan.com/news/press-releases/2007/649/) to the June 2007 article.

It's pretty funny actually.

We're 54% more likely to have made a purchase from Autobahn and 50% more likely to have made a purchase from Clints Crazy Bargains in the last four weeks.

Collingwood supporters are 104% more likely to have made a purchase from Dimmeys/Forges in the last four weeks, Richmond supporters are 70% more likely to agree that they consider themselves a homosexual while West Coast supporters are 17% more likely to believe that homosexuality is immoral.

We're 2000 up on the same time last year which would indicate that we're on target for 32,000.

With such a big turnout yesterday, a home NAB Cup game next week and 5 consecutive games at Telstra Dome to start the season I see no reason why we wouldn't break our record if we get off to a good start.

Especially when you consider that we have a new board who was overwhelmingly endorsed by the members, some excellent off-field additions and a good trade week.

I just got this email, membership as high as its ever been for this time of year i believe.

2008 Membership cards and packs have begun to be mailed this week, so keep an eye out for yours in the mail shortly! Please be advised that it can take up to 2 weeks for delivery, so please be patient if yours doesn't arrive straight away. Please also note that that cards are sent out individually and not in family/household batches.

Our current membership total as of this morning is 22,655 so we would like to thank you for your contribution to this and ask you to help us keep it moving up by encouraging friends and family who have not yet joined to do so.

Your Member's only scarf (and cap for Social Club & Reserved Seat members!) is now available for collection. These can be picked up from our membership marquees on match day or our upcoming Saints Family Day at Frankston Park, however to avoid any possible queues we suggest you collect from our membership counter at Linen House Oval, Moorabbin. You must bring your voucher that will arrive with your membership card to redeem your scarf and cap and to further reduce your wait time, please fill in your name and member ID beforehand.

Footy is back this week with our first NAB Cup game on Friday at Telstra Dome! As a member you will NOT gain entry with your 2008 Saints membership card. Tickets can be purchased through the Ticketmaster network at any of their outlets, by visiting ticketmaster.com.au or calling 1300 136 122.

Awesome thanks for the update Sainter, seems as though we're heading in the right direction.

We don't have the membership pack yet, so haven't had the highlights on repeat as yet.

That Schwarze game is one of the few home games I've had to miss over the last few years. I was moving into a new house and had to miss going. I planned to keep unpacking until the start of the game, but when gametime came around i couldn't get any TV reception & radio was pretty dodgy too - so pulling my hair out & in a blind panic I left the front door wide open as I sprinted to my new local pub & watched it there. I'm suprised I wasn't kicked out towards the end of the game, I was a bit snaky until that Schwarze passage of play.

I've since watched that play dozen's of times, but will enjoy having a decent quality version to through into the dvd player.

Good spot. I was on the other side and had a perfect view of Aussie's "behind".

I will never ever forget that game. Everyone around us including myself was crying and hugging each other. That game ranks along side the Carlton game at Moorabbin all those years ago when plugger kicked 12. Stirring stuff!!!!!

10.7 to Plugger v Carlton when Ken Sheldon got confused who he was playing for and kicked it sideways to no-one!!!

I've since watched that play dozen's of times, but will enjoy having a decent quality version to through into the dvd player.

> kick in > kosi tap > black > voss > schwarze > goal > mayhem!

You poor b@stard. I don't live in Melbourne but I was there for that game. I jumped out of my chair when that goal was kicked, hugged my cousin and screamed YEAH like I have never screamed. Lost my voice, which was a pain in the a$s as I had a job interview on the Monday :).

Just a quick question re memberships, to those who were a member last year but haven't signed up yet this year (I just got over my credit card x-mas hangover). Did you guys get sent a membership card the other day. I received one and thought (I'm pretty sure I haven't paid for this yet)... But I could be wrong as in December all I did was seem to add to that b!oody card.

Did anyone else who "hasn't" signed up yet get a new card?

CH.10 when promoting the saints membership drive during one of the breaks had our current number at 25,000

Plus there would have been a few hundred at least, sign on at family day yesterday, especially after Sat night's win! There were about 5000 there. :thumbsu:

The lady at the membership tent at the family day on Sunday said we had just passed 26,000. They sold over 200 memberships for the day:eek::thumbsu:

Don't forget the Tasmanian members we lost by not playing there from 2007 onwards.

Yeah but we were losing money as they were all on the one Family Membership ticket!!

Can we reach 30,000 members by round 1?

Yeah we could, just need supporters to unload their baggage from the past and have a positive view of the club moving forward so we are all pulling together.

People still yearning for past dud coach's, presidents & committee's will make it hard though.

Don't be stupid...

4+k members in about 9 days?

I don't think so :)

I reckon we will go close especially with our first game at the dome against Sydney. The membership tents will be very busy prior to that game. I wouldn't be suprised if 1000 join up on the night.

What do you care or have you changed your mind and bought a membership?

3k in 8 days is still a little optomistic...

No, I haven't changed my mind. Even if I did, my reserved seats are probably gone by now.

So I now remove your ability to get excited about St.Kilda membership numbers. Goodbye.

30,000 by round one is not realistic. If we can notch that up by round 3-4, that would be excellent.
