How does everyone think our team in 2008 compares to the Baby Bombers back in 1993 (was it 93)?
We still have experience and now with a group of emerging 21-23 yr olds and a great draft influx it would be an interesting comparison.
It would be interesting posting up the Baby Bombers side versus our best starting 2008 side and see how much of a difference on paper they look:cool:

I could see us do it in 09 but not 08
Masten, Ebert and Selwood simply wouldn't be able to manage a full season next year but possibly could in 09.
its different because that side hadnt won a flag 2 years earlier.
we've still got so much experience. its just that most of our quality players like selwood, nico, butler, hurn, rosa etc are young. we are mature beyond our years.

Never say never, its not impossible to win next year and anything is possible these days!

Not even comparable. Wishful thinking to do so....

I suppose I've picked the worst club to compare ourselves to. They almost killed us last game and for some reason are our biggest bogy team.:(

I'd say Port would come pretty close to being our biggest bogy team

I'd be more inclined to call the '06 Eagles a better comparison to the '93 Bombers...

And that's ignoring the fact that the 2000 Essendon team lost ONCE out of 25 games...

Round 21, 2000
Essendon Bombers 3.2 7.3 11.7 12.9 81
Western Bulldogs 4.1 7.3 9.4 14.8 92
Chris Grant: 26 kicks, 3 handballs, 12 marks, 2 goals
Just incase any WCE people wanted to know about the second greatest win in the clubs history. But don't think I've forgotten about 1954!!

Well, '93 is a pretty interesting year for us. The 'leap year' in between our first two premierships. Hoping that 2007 is the same as 1993 in more ways than one:D

While I agree with the sentiment - the circumstance is vastly different.

Pissed a lot of bomber fans off, esp when they won the flag they look back and were so close to a perfect season. 1 lose and so close, ouch it must hurt! :D My mum and sister weren't happy chappies :D

Yeah, Im sure they really hated winning the flag and being known as one of the best teams ever.

Yes happy to win a flag of course but they still suffered a lose, remember they were so close to a clean run! Myself couldn't careless how many loses the Eagles have as long as they win a flag I'd be happy.

We'd lose by 10 goals minimum

Ok maybe you were right, missed that. Although its not set in concrete, the young Eagles of 2008 could possibly beat the bombers of 2000, though unfortunately we shall never know as there would be 8 years difference (but get them to play today and I think they should beat a team of oldies!). We also dont even know how the 2008 Eagles team is going to go in the home and way season as it hasn't started. Could flop or not (though liking the latter more). Should wait 'till this new team goes first before comparing.

yeah I agree with you. nothing against our 2008 im very confident of our chances. its just that 2000 essendon was something very special losing one game and smashing teams in the finals, awesome team. hears hoping our current squad can achieve something similar
