Congratulations to Danny Green for capturing the WBA Light Heavyweight Champion. Top effort from a top bloke.
No offence but not sure how the Croation Stipe Drews won the title considering he really made an effort to avoid engaging most of the fight.
We have another Australian Champion from Western Australia :thumbsu::).

Great stuff for Danny to win, I think that guy had 500,000 reasons to get out of that ring unscathed. If that had of been a heavyweight bout from 15 years ago everyone would have been yelling out"Fix". What a joke of an effort from Stipe Drews:eek:
The Croat was a weak as piss, as soon as he thought he would lose he just made sure he didn't get hurt. Great to see Green win but the previous bout was far more entertaining.

The walking headline, Man Mundine, was on the radio today saying that he thought the Green v Stipe fight was "possibly rigged".
Good work Green.
I think Green's current weight range (light heavy) suits him alot better. He looked skeletal in his bout against Mundine.
Would love to see a Green v Mundine showdown here in Perth. Would be great.

Mundine/Hewitt I could understand but Green/Hewitt..??? Oh well each to their own.
The fight itself was a big let down, but through no fault of Danny Greens. He did more klms in the ring chasing that big prick than our boys will do in the pre-season.
If only I could pay Fox one dollar for each punch the Croat landed on Green then it may have been worth actually paying to see it ;)
But I would sell my own kids(lucky I dont have any) to see Green flatten that mouthpiece from the east.:thumbsu:

Well he is a slime fan after all... he is going not to like the purple horde.
Guess we just may have inspired him with our mental discipline and measure aggression on the field to show up the glamour boys from up the road.
Don'tBowlThere - I can't personally see how Danny Green is like Lleyton Hewitt, however each to their own.
I just think its bloody great a local lad is now a world champ. This doesn't happen often here for us....
He'll be able to show his skills more in his first title defence , as I don't think he'll get a dancing wimp to fight him again [hopefully].
Though Mundine hasn't earn't the right to face him just yet, it's the rematch with the ultimate prize on the line all Aussie pugilist fans want to see.....
It should happen soonish as they are both at there peak age of boxing...

Surely if there is a knob in Aussie boxing its Mundine. I would love to see him knocked out.

Green is much worse than Hewitt. At least when Hewitt loses, he is humble, says he wasn't good enough, and even when he was injured he never used that an excuse. He may act like a knob on the court sometimes, but he takes responsibility.
Green on the other hand always has an excuse - injuried etc. Green talked himself up massively before the Mundine fight and got absolutely killed. Green hasn't fired a shot since he stopped fighting in the Jeff Fenech way. Green lost his fight in Germany and his fight to Mundine from poor tactics, nothing else.

See and thats my problem with Green. Mundine knows he is a knob and to be honest tries to entertain in a sport that requires it. Green on the otherhand is the biggest passive aggressive knobhead in Australian sport. Everything he does and says has underlining aggressive tone to it yet he thinks he is gods gift to nice guys. Just my opinion and I know it isnt a popular one, I went for Mundine in the Green v Mundine fight at the Floreat pub, probably a few hundred people there and I rekon 5 Mundine supporters. Was an interesting night.
I am with don't bowl there. Green is an excuse-loving Weavil who, if he wasn't Western Australian, would be hated for his smug self-satfisfactfion by everyone here.
Plus he's not that good.

I'm with you guys too. He annoys the crap out of me. That doesn't mean I like Mundine BTW - it's not a one or the other thing... They're both ********s IMO. But at least Mundine is entertaining - you can laugh at him for the way he carries on... Green on the other hand is definitely a passive agressive knobend. The arrogance of both of them is off the scale.
But meh - good on him for working hard and becoming a world champion... even if I find his particular sport meaningless and rather distasteful.

If a boxer wasn't full of himself and a little passive aggressive then he'd be useless at his sport.
If you don't have the hyper inflated ego plus be convinced your a "highly calibrated damage machine", for want of a better term, then you'd not be a good boxer, and most likely get hurt.
Guys - point me out a boxer who hasn't got a bit of the knobhead in them.
The all have it.... plus getting hit in the head so much is not going to be beneficial for your social skills.

Boxing is an incredibly scientific sport that requires concentration and strategy as well as physicial conditioning.

I agree NF. I think an element of arrogance is an occupational hazard for almost every professional boxer.
I will always support Danny Green in a fight against Man Mundine.
But having said that, I have a huge amount of respect for the Man as a boxer. He sells himself short by fighting guys like that Argentinian chump he ko'd last week. Anyone who watched the Mundine / Solomon fight would agree that Mundine is a very slick athlete. The ironic thing is that the Man actually looks better when he fights guys who are of world class standard.
^Good posts NiGHTFuRY and G.Jeff, my thoughts exactly guys^

Yes but the important bit is that Danny Green doesn't have to shred to get to the weight. Losing those extra few kilos can take a lot out of you, right Memories

Yeah it's definately an advantage for Green but it's not a disadvantage for Mungbean because it's only a couple of kilo's. Fighting at light heavy weight won't be an excuse if Green beats Mundine.
I can't recall his name, but the Fremantle runner and boxing coach was the referee for all the fights on the undercard. He trains some full time fighters too.
The best part of the night at Challenge Stadium was the stand off between the cops and rebels. Looked like we were going to see an old fashioned showdown when they cleared the adjoining tables. Unfortunately it was during the Kickett fight and most of my interest was directed outside of the ring.
Surprised at the level of hatred levelled at Green on here. Seems like one of very few gentlemen in a sport full of tossers to me.
Boxing is all about stories. Strories and representing something. It could be like that English fighter from the 20s and 30s who was still running around 50 years later, convinced he was a young blade, up for a bit with the ladies gagging for it. Or it could be any of the black Americans, carrying the weight for your people. or, for that matter, any of the Great White Hopes, trying valiantly to fly the flag for stupid white people everywhere.
Or it could be Lionel Rose, young of the greatest Australian sportsmen, fighting more than just the bloke opposite him.
Green stands for what? What's his story? He stands for Green and he's just not that good.

Our cricket team got together around one blokes house to watch the fight and only one of us was backing Mundine.
He'd spent the previous month engaging in the kind of trash talking that would make the Man proud and had manage to goad half the team into making bets with him.
He won enough cartons of piss that night to last him the rest of the season.

Well done Danny. But don't make the same mistake that so many past fighters have made, and come back at some time.Once gone the past sometimes become bigger and better than it was.Don't get sucked in,remember Jimmy Carruthers,a great world champion who came back and was a mere shadow of the fighter he was.
Hopefully Jeff Fenech will regather his marbles before he makes the same mistake.
Thogh I am not a Mundine fan( I have the same feeling for the scum up the road)there is no disgrace being beaten by him. There will be many fighters who will wish they had not taken him on in the future.
He was smart enough to fight Danny on his terms. He waited until he was ready for the fight, and we all know the result.Had he fought Danny four years prior Danny would have made mince meat of him.Dumb but clever.
Well done Danny Our world champ.

Mundine timed it beautifully, had he met him a few years ago in his prime regardless of the weight, it may have been a different story.

Green came out of the Mundine fight with his credibility gone. He went from saying he was going to knock out Mundine to trying to outbox him. Everyone knew Mundine was a better boxer, but people thought Green was a good chance for the knockout considering Mundine's glass jaw. The only people who won that day were Mundine, and the bookies who cleaned up on the betting plunge on Green.

Green's decision to try and out jab Mundine will go down in Australian boxing history as one of the worst tactical decisions ever made.
