About
Holland’s productivity in 2006 was slightly down statistically on his career-best season of 2005 (averaged 18.6 touches per game in 2006 compared with 22 in 2005), but his importance to the side was no less evident, with the team dropping four out of five games when he was missing from rounds 11-15 with an Achilles injury. Holland’s endurance and ability to run with and curtail opposition midfielders, while still being able to win the ball and impose himself physically on a contest, are his biggest attributes. Since transforming himself from a half forward into a legitimate midfielder in 2005, Holland hasn’t lost the ability to kick a goal, booting 15 majors in 2006, and he thoroughly enjoyed taking on the old enemy, with two of his best matches coming against Carlton in rounds six and 21.

Brodie Holland (Wikipedia)
Is an Australian rules footballer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football) in the Australian Football League (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Football_League).
From Tasmania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmania), Brodie was drafted to Fremantle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fremantle_Football_Club) in the 1997 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997)AFL Draft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AFL_Draft) at no.26 overall. He made his debut mid-way through 1998 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998) as a small-forward and played most games since making his first appearance. He spent a further 2 seasons at the Dockers before being traded to Collingwood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collingwood_Football_Club) in 2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000). Holland quickly adapted as a good player with the Magpies and became a fan favourite in his first season, kicking 28 goals in 21 matches.
In 2002 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002) he started off with a 3-goal haul against Richmond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmond_Football_Club) and then produced an 8-goal haul a week later against the West Coast Eagles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Coast_Eagles), to be the leading goalkicker for the season after round 2. He then was quiet for the rest of the season. He injured his back, causing a month out of the game, but couldn't get back in the side until late season. He was dropped after round 22 and missed the Magpies first finals campaign since 1994 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994), which included playing in the 2002 AFL Grand Final (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_AFL_Grand_Final). 2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003) saw him change to a tagging role in the midfield rather than the inconsistent goal-kicking small forward. He had a clash with Scott Camporeale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Camporeale) of Carlton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlton_Football_Club) leaving him with a bloodied nose, while late in the year, he was suspended for punching Paul Williams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Williams_%28Australian_rules_footballer%29) of Sydney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_Swans) in the stomach. He missed the first final but managed to get back in for the Preliminary and Grand Final (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Final) sides.
He continued as a tagging midfielder, despite some problems at the tribunal during years 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004) and 2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005), and his good form bought him very close to winning the Copeland Trophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copeland_Trophy), coming second to James Clement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Clement) in 2005.
While he could not retain his 2005 form, he continued to be a fan favourite in 2006, showing grit and determination to win the ball, highlighted in a match against the Geelong Cats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geelong_Cats), in which he bravely laid a huge tackle on Geelong big man Cameron Mooney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameron_Mooney).
In the Qualifying final against the Western Bulldogs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Bulldogs), Holland was suspended for 6 weeks for rough conduct against Brett Montgomery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Montgomery).
Outside Football/Personal life
In 2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005), Holland participated in the Seven Network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Network)'s television show Dancing with the Stars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_with_the_Stars_%28Australia%29) with dance partner Alana. Holland become a favourite on the show due to his athletic dance moves and handsome looks. Holland made it to the top four before being voted off the show.
Holland is engaged to model Sarita Stella (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarita_Stella).
On 25 May (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_25)2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006), Holland, Stella and a friend, Brooke Hawken, appeared in court after being charged with assault following an altercation outside a popular nightclub in Melbourne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne) on 2nd December (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2nd_December)2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005). Magistrate Jelena Popovic adjourned the matter for a contested hearing, to begin on October 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_2), 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006).[1] (http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/articles/2006/05/25/1148519754833.html)
Holland later pled guilty to one count of recklessly causing injury to the woman, who the court heard Holland had grabbed from behind after she attempted to enter a taxi ahead of his friends. After the woman shrugged off his tackle, Hollan punched her in the head. [2] (http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/holland-fined-over-taxi-fracas/2007/03/26/1174761348871.html)
In 2006, Holland appeared in several advertisements on television for a lottery advertisement along with the NRL's Matthew Johns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Johns). He also made a Cameo appearance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameo_appearance) in the soap opera Neighbours (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighbours).

Needs to have a big 2008 otherwise his place on the list could be under jeapody. At his best he can tag or kick goals. I hope he can be injury free and get back to his 2005 form.

By Ben Broad in South Africa
Exclusive to AFL BigPond Network
HOW does Brodie Holland get such big ‘guns’? By pulling Grandma out of the swimming pool.
That's not some lame joke. You see, ‘Grandma’ is an ostrich, and rescuing wildlife is part of your run-of-the-mill day when you’re an AFL team training in South Africa.
The Magpies endured an energy-sapping two-hour training session under the hot African sun on Monday morning, with an Australian football oval – fully equipped with goalposts – marked out at ASB Potchefstroom Military Base.
Holland, who ran at full pace last week for the first time during his comeback from a persistent achilles injury, was among a small group of players partially involved in the session.
And he later told of an authentic African experience the previous night at the Elgro River Lodge just outside Potchefstroom.
Coach Mick Malthouse was lazing in the pool when Grandma, casually drinking some water nearby, was stunned as a Magpie – of the non-flying variety – approached.
“One of the boys came around behind it and it got a bit scared and slipped and fell into the pool,” Holland said.
“It was trying to get up and it [the pool] was obviously pretty deep … so we had to help it get up onto the step and help it out.
“I got in and helped Mick [get it out].”
Holland said the ostrich, which stood about key position-player height, panicked initially before being escorted to safety.
“It was probably about six [foot] four [inches tall] or something like that, so it was pretty scary,” Holland said.
“It’s got these big hoofs on it, like size 18 feet on a human.
“Once we got it out, it was okay, although I think it was a little bit embarrassed about it, because it took off after that!”
Sporting a ripped upper body, Holland said he hadn’t gained any extra bulk and would likely start the season at around 81kg.
The hard-at-it midfielder said he was unlikely to play a preseason match. Instead, he was aiming to return in the early rounds of the season.
Josh Fraser (illness), who missed Sunday’s hike, was also absent from training on Monday while Simon Prestigiacomo was present but didn’t partake in any ball-work.
In fact, the veteran defender could have been auditioning for Rocky XXVII, such was the length of his boxing workout.
Out in the middle, there were end-to-end drills designed for quick ball movement, while a tackling exercise rounded out the session.
Not every ball hit its target and the odd mark was dropped during training, but there was plenty of voice and enthusiasm from the Magpies.
This year at Collingwood, like last, it appears as though it will be a case of one-in, all-in. Just ask Grandma.
