View Full Version : #26 Sam Butler... "And Butler serves up another beauty"
Expect BIG things from sammy this year, after being apart of the 06 premiership Sam wants another one to match his first. Hopefully Sam can snap up a free spot in our midfield and show us his true skills.
I was watching the 06 victory pack, and in that final series probly bar the grand final, Sam played some of his best footy, hes a very classy midfielder who i think will be looking at loading some balls into the fifty for lynch or Brown ;) to slot away through the middle.

The game against Richmond in ~ Round 22 was by far his best, very very clean disposal and one of the few games he played genuine on ball.
Will struggle after missing a season but no doubt if he can pull it all together then he in a genuine B+ midfielder and one day could progress to top 20 midfielders in the AFL.

I am a One Eyed Butler supporter as I share his surname.
I rate him as one of the best foot passers in our midfield, he also does very well sticking his head over the ball and shooting out a handball to the outside runners.
Remember the game v Swans at Subi this year when he ran down Barry Hall from behind in a ball and all tackle, Baz limped off. Nearly spilt by beer.
I see a bit of Simon Black in him, lets hope he turns out as good:D
Here's hoping for a big 2008.
Yep, just reading that he is rated the 9th big return to the AFL, where they rated players coming back for their clubs and their importance.
Hope he stays injury free and has a big 2008.

What's the news with Butler? Will he play any pre-season games?

Important (DT!) question - is Butler fit enough to play R1? Thanks in advance.

Firstly, visit this thread (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=417525) for four DT and SC Q&A.
And secondly, I don't think he will play in Round 1.

Thanks mate, appreciated. I've left him out of the side for the time being, but I'm in agreement with Prospectus, he's a star when fit and going.
So, how long until we see him back in the side?
Does anyone have any news on how he is going?
round 7. he'll be playing for west coast.
pencil it in.

Anti, from what ive said and heard before Sam will be back playing for Perth round 7 then hopefully will be playing AFL by round 9. Its just match fitness thats a problem for him at the moment.

Stuff me, if you weren't right on the money. You excited heals? I sure am to be seeing him play, hopefully on more than 1 leg for the first time in a while, his first WAFL match for about a year. Good luck Buts (without going too well, of course).

Yes thats right you did hear it right here first, but now i think sammy will be back in the eagles line up a week later or 2.
And yes ill go down and watch his game, hes only playing a half for the reserves team then i think perth may have the bye next week. So his delay back to AFL may be a tad longer.
Also Ash Hansen will play for the Swans league team this week, it will be interesting to see how he works with Notte and if their team work is up to scratch.

How did he go on the weekend?
My mail is that he played well, lacked fitness (DERR!!) but should be pushing for selection in the next 3-4 weeks.
No rush Sammy get your body right son.
His first few disposals were shocking. But what can you expect from a man thats been out of the game for 2 years. I think he played in the reserves just so that he could get his eye in really and should be back playing in league this week and as Big Man said pushing for selection within the next month.
Great first game back by Sam !

Didn't miss by that much :)
I just hope he's got his injury stuff all totally over and done with. Hate to see him go down again. :(
