View Full Version : The top 3 sitcoms of the 21st century so far?

For me:
1. The Office (UK)
2. Extras
3. Arrested Development
Scrubs unlucky.
I can't believe AD was cancelled after 3 seasons. Typical of Americans to prefer shows like The Nanny, Hope & Faith, According to Jim, 8 Simple Rules, Will & Grace etc over something that is actually funny.
Perhaps the lack of a laughter track put them off.

i reckon my name is earl is not far off too. according to jim was alright at first then every story line has been belushi trying to trick his missus into doing something and vice versa it became quite repetitive and annoying. 8 simple rules got destroyed by johns death. hope and faith again similar to according to jim extremely repetitive.
only sitcom il never get sick of is seinfeld.
need to get into the 3 shows mentioned above though Im a big fan of scrubs (cheers channel 7 for killing quality) and curb your enthusiasm.

The Office is definitely up there. Malcolm in the Middle and That '70's Show weren't bad either. But the quality is still with the animated shows- South Park and Futurama in particular.

I adored the Office, but Arrested Development was magnificent. It's a crime against humanity that it got the arse after only three seasons.

1. Arrested development - me and my brother watched all three series last week and it reminded me how funny that show is - genius! not many shows make me laugh out loud but that one does. although it sucks it got cancelled its probs a good thing because i dont see how much further they could have dragged it on. the third season is hilarious particularly because, as they knew they were getting cancelled, they could make it as obscure as they wanted anyway.
2. scrubs - so insightful, so random, so funny!
3. malcolm in the middle - when this was on channel 9 every monday night i was in love with malcolm (i was about 14/15) watching eps on foxtel reminds me of how good it used to be... before it went downhill a bit as they got older

Surely if the Office and Arrested Devp. are classified as sitcoms, then Entourage is also.

would Entourage be considered a sitcom?
Sitcom is short for situation comedy, so the situation would be a movie star and his friends, and it's definitely funny therefore its a sitcom :thumbsu:

2. Scrubs

Anything else just isn't my cup of tea ..
BTW How I met ur mother is utter crud and it's such a shame that Alyson Hannigan's talents are being wasted in that garbage.

Oh ok.
So what defines a sitcom?
A comedy. It means Situation Comedy technically but most comedies on TV are Sitcoms.

Oh ok.
So what defines a sitcom?
The comedy arises from the situation the characters find themselves in rather than relying on the characters being funny is the classic definition.
Sarah Alexander was very good in "Is it Legal" as well
From this decade i'd have to go Family Guy, Peep Show, Early Doors

No, they don't.
It was also more of a "skit-com" than a traditional sit-com.
It certainly took a couple of views to get hooked, the first episode or so it was just too disturbing to be funny.

Scrubs is not only my favourite sitcom of the naughties, it is by far my favourite show. From the goofy Zach Braff to his brown bear Donald Faison and his moody spanish wife Judy Reyes and their talkative friend Sarah Chalke and to the cranky ken Jenkins and the ego driven Johnny C McGinnley to the Janitor played by Neil Flynn. The chemistry of all these characters is unsurpassed. Add in characters such as The Todd, nervous guy, the evil ex wife, laverne played by aloma wright and the sweaty useless lawyer Ted, this show always makes me laugh, yet you care for the characters too. And they do most of thier own stunts, Braff's physical comedy is brilliant.
The Gap between the sun and the next closest star
My Name is Earl, whilst a good show cannot compare to scrubs. Earl tries to make up for all the wrong things he has done in his life by crossing them off a list. He has very unintelligent and lazy brother RANDY (an illegal name in Australia for obvious reasons). Earl has to continually deal with his ex wife. A funny show but not in the same league as scrubs.
The gap between the earth and the sun
The Office comes in third. This show, wheather the american or british version has minimal characters to draw humor from, thus showing the strength of scrubs as a show, but it is very funny, not in the same league as scrubs in entertainment or humor. But what is?
