According to the website for the corner hotel they are playing there on the 17th with the Celibate Rifles and the Cassanovas. Maybe Rusty can fill us in on the details. He may also have the lowdown on the Shock Treatment PBS benefit featuring Cosmic Psychos and an all star line up.

The Tote ?????

Is that place still going ??

What's it like these days ??

Do they still have the pre-gig Sunday sausage sizzle ??

Did a few gigs there in the 80's and still have some good memories, interesting mix of people frequented the front bar though.

The Dictators will be in Melbourne for two shows 17th of August at the Corner Hotel and the 18th at the Dirty Rotten Tote.

Supports are the Celibate Rifles and the Casanovas (which will most likely be Rusty's last gig with the Casanovas).

Seriously guys, if you are into punk rock, these guys were there before the Ramones, the Sex Pistols et al. The Ramones themselves have always spoken highly of the 'tators and collaborated many times. They released one of the first true punk albums Go Girl Crazy in 1975. Heavily influenced by the Stooges, the MC5, the Who and the Beach Boys, their songs were and still are catchy as all hell, funny as all buggery and tough as a pair of old boots.

Metal fans also take note. This is the band where legendary Manowar guitarist Ross the Boss made his start: and he will be playing with the band! Mark 'the Animal' Mendoza from Twisted Sister also played bass in the Dictators for a year and played on their second album Manifest Destiny.

If you like your music loud and proud, then the Dictators is a must-see show!

Will Mendoza be on bass for this gig? I don't know if it was something that may have happened between Ross and Mendoza, but MANOWAR and Twisted Sister hated eachothers guts all trhough the 80s, and probably still do.

If nobody can shed any light on the matter, I'll have a flick through some old metal magazines and see what goss I can dig up.

I'm hoping the Go Girl Crazy line up, with Handsome up front, is what we get to see... but any band with Ross The Boss will be well worth it.

Pretty much the lineup for Go Girl Crazy give or take a drummer. Andy Shernoff, will play bass: Mark Mendoza played on one album where Shernoff moved to keyboards. I don't he has played with the Dictators since the early 90s.

I didn't realise you'd be making an appearance on stage Rusty :D

Now it's a must see, preferably the gig on the 17th as that's not a school night ;).

Can someone ask Mendoza if he still wants to break Dee Snider's legs..saw a great Twisted Sister behind the music doco recently and a highlight was Mendoza's hate of Snider and his fame trip wrecking the Sister..

they had re-union footage so i guess they worked it out ..he didnt look too happy though..and he turned into a big big boy

The Tote *shudder* Not even the toilets at Optus are as bad as those ones . . . have been there quite a few times as chief groupie for Mordi . . . much preferred the Corner, the Espy, the Armadale or the Evelyn, even the Rochester Castle!!

Speechless. ****ing brilliant!

Rusty's band The Casanovas also put on a great show, they make a lot of high-quality noise for a three piece and play a tight and well-timed set.

Other bands on the bill were The Celibate Rifles - who I thought were like a refined version of The Cosmic Psychos. Every song sounded the same, but they were just better songs ;) - and a Japanese band called The Faceful who were um... different.

Rusty - apologies for not being able to front up tonight as well, but I'm glad I saw your band before your retirement, and ecstatic that I saw the Diccies before theirs!!! :D

With Darky and Pedro here. One of the best live shows I have seen ever. I thought the Corner Hotel show was just better than the Tote show. Probably due more to the venue than the performance though. Great selection of old songs on both nights (Two Tub Man, Next Big Thing, Baby Let's Twist, Master Race Rock, Stay with Me, Minnesota Strip) plus some great new songs (Who Will Save Rock N Roll?, Pussy and Money, Avenue A). Also included covers of the Dead Boys' classic Sonic Reducer and a heartfelt tribute to their co-religionist punk brothers, the Ramones with their cover of Blitzkrieg Bop. It was awesome to see a band that started in late 1973 still kicking out the jams like there was no tomorrow in 2002.

Rusty, tour posters say the Dictators are heading to Sydney next with the Casanovas in tow... will you be a part of that or have you done your dash with the trio?

Gentlemen, one at a time please.

Darky, the new bass player will be doing the Sydney shows.

And Black Majesty, did meet the great man but stupidly forgot to bring my LPs. Did get him to sign a tour poster. He was incredibly friendly (as was the whole band), signed my mate's Dictators bootleg and posed for photos with anyone who asked.

It was a good night.

Facefull were wierd, but you know good wierd :D . Waaaaaay to much feedback for my liking, i'm guessing it's part of their whole effect. It ****s me no-end however.

Celibate Rifles were a surprise, I know they've been around for Yonks & had seen a few of their clips on Rage & stuff but they were good. Had Bulldogs1's twin bro on vocals too ;).

The Casanovas impressed me, mind you fast, loud music aint gonna be everyone's cup of tea but it sure is mine :D. I liked the first song I'll keep it hot for you? However Jimbo your vocals weren't loud enough mate! Supporting the Dictators is a great way to go out eh?

Dictators were great, I'm not that familiar with their stuff but they went right off. Great personality & humour 2 qualities I admire in any band. They were also damn loud!

Well, Darky did make his way up to Sydney over the weekend. I caught up with him for the Saturday night gig at the Royal Crest. Not a huge crowd, but the Dictators were bloody good. I wasn't much of a Dictators fan before, but I really enjoyed the show.

I will let Darky tell you all about what he got up to yesterday, sounded like it was a good day out on Sydney harbour ... I couldn't go with him yesterday unfortunately.:(

The Sydney harbour boat cruise was four hours of pure beer and music-filled mayhem.

A MASSIVE call to make, but I rate it above North's 96 flag win on a personal scale.

After a very good performance on Saturday night, the band blew everyone away with the Sunday cruise gig.

About 60-80 people on the 4 hour cruise, the entire band being very sociable and talking to everyone.

Got everything signed including all my Manowar & Dictators CDs that Ross played on, plus my Manowar shirt which I wore.

Another personal highlight was every time I yelled out a Manowar song title between songs, Ross would start playing a few bars.

Finished off my visit to Sydney with a trip to Utopia Records in George Street. Found a copy of The Scorpions' "Taken By Force" which had eluded me before...

My life is now complete... I've had a beer with Ross The Boss and HDM!

What a top weekend!!! I'm spewin' I didn't take a camera.

Darky, my ears are still ringing from Saturday night! Worth it though.
