View Full Version : What's the deal, Dave?
Upon Megadeth disbanding due to singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine's "hand injury", I don't think there were many people entirely convinced the injury was bona fide... or real enough to dismantle the band anyway.
So, three or four months after this announcement, the remaining three members of the band that was Megadeth (Al Pitrelli - guitar, Dave Ellefson - bass, Jimmy DeGrasso - drums) have teamed up with former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman and are working on an album...
Most Megadeth fans I spoke to, shared the opinion that Dave Mustaine should have got another guitarist (preferably ask Friedman to return, as he supposedly left on very good terms), and remain as singer and chief songwriter, instead of taking apart one of the best metal bands of the 80s and 90s.
You don't need your hands to sing, Dave.

I reckon they'll trot out the old classic "they parted due to musical differences" soon.
What's the frequency Kenneth . . .

Darko you cant deny that Dave has an ego...
The Megadeth vs Metallica fued showed that...although Metallica made the money i would have argued Megadeth were had the self respect..Dave was still pretty stoopid at times...maybe that have something to do with Dave not carrying on?
or the ego thing of guitar being part of what mustaine does?
I heard religion has become a big part of him and maybe thats caused some of the wedge too? It should all come out in the wash eventually..

No doubting that Dave has an ego, but if he didn't want to record a Megadeth album without himself on guitar, maybe a temporary hiatus would have been better rather than splitting the band up. The injury was supposedly indefinite, which doesn't necessarily mean permanent, and if it does happen to be permanent, he'd have nothing to lose by continuing as a vocalist/songwriter only.
I wouldn't think religion drew him away from the band. He has been a devout Jehovah's Witness for several years, after "rediscovering himself" after his drug addiction and suicide attempts in the late 80s and early 90s. He actually cited his faith as being one of the main factors in leading a life balanced enough to keep Megadeth going for so long.

dunno..maybe percetages comes into it..if someone else has to play more guitar then maybe the politics of payment splits and royalties makes it messier...
ya dont know maybe the other guys bailed on him and the finale was a nice story to save face..its been done before
gotta agree the story dont add up though..something fishy has happened..long and short of it is this new band shall be interesting..wonder what sort of singer they get?
