got few lazy weeks inside after a bloody shoulder reco, and wondering if any computer nerds out there can tell me if its possible to download last years sheedy & Hird farewell.

I want to make a highlights package of the six times during that game when Joel Bowden stood in Llloyd and Lucas's hole and got smashed. Could be handy footage to refer all the tools on bigfooty that insist on Bowden being cheap and soft.....biggest misconception in football.

Rooster......I think the most important thing when judging anyone who happens to be in a hole is;

(A) Does it look like it was the player's allocated job to be there. (Good)
(B) Has the player made a quick decision to get to the hole leaving his covered opponent, thus helping his team, unselfishly. (Good)
(C) Did the player by an unlucky/lucky turn of events find himself in the hole. (Luck)
(D) Was the player caught out, and found himself in the hole, unintentionally. (Luck - Bad)
(E) Is the player a loose player told to get to the hole and therefore has no direct opponent in the area. (Good)
(F) Has the player been negligent in losing his player, and thus happened by luck to find himself in the hole. (Luck - Bad)

When judging Joel's great positioning, please look at the play earlier and judge what reasoning allowed Joel to do what he did.

Luck is harder to replicate, then direction, decision and intuition.

Remember a couple of years ago the Carltank Board and supporters said Whitnall had a great year, when in fact he got a lot of soft, uncontested kicks in 'holes'. The following year when Lance manned up, it showed he was past it !

Do Bowden justice......look at the play before his play and how he happened to be there......just don't appraise and edit in isolation.

Cheers

forget how it came to be carmen san diego and stop trying to be the tactician that you're clearly not. Bowden was directly responsible for a number of interceptions and threw his body on the line multiple times which directly resulted in Richmond clearances from defense.

He set the game up in the first half, and too often these acts of his go unnoticed, simply because he might get the ball over 30 times and apparently thats not in the rules for defenders.

but go on hero d1ck, hit back with some more predictive negative dribble you poor mans Bentleigh.been done pal.

by the way your Whitnall comparison sucks balls and gives a good insight into your footy nous.

I'm pretty sure the only line SOFTIE BOWDEN was looking for was on the actual playing field, know what I mean?

Somebody put up a clip of Oakley-Nicholls' goal v Essendon in 2006 a while back. It's only a quick grab, but it shows the build-up to that goal, starting with some exquisite Bowden work from full back, side-stepping the bloke on the mark in the opposition goal square, spotting up Andy Kellaway 50 metres up the ground, eventually finishing with the JON goal. That'd be worth including too - it shows how Joel toys with his opponents.

I've got it.

If u edit the footage like u say, make sure u title it,"A special Day in an otherwise soft career" and then cut one together of all his squibs and turnovers.

Not sure who im begrudging IDGAF,locked up indoors morphiened off my dial with a bung shoulder looking for something half productive to do!got sick of youporn so tiger analysis was the next best thing.interesting how this has progressed to a bowden/rooster bashing thread
when my only intention was to highlight the fact Bowden isnt as bad as many say he is. Opinions will be opinions though.

I was stupidly under the impression it was mostly opposition supporters who considered Bowden so terrible, obviously not the case though.

Try to drag yourself away from being just a plain pr1ck and honestly name me a game other then the infamous Russel Robertson game when he was responsible for us losing or cost us the game so to speak.

Im not the eternal optimist you must think i am, i acknowledge we aren't a very good side with and have many very ordinary players. I just think from the games I've watched in the last 10 years, and I've missed few, Bowden would surely have to be one of the few shining lights.

He's no champion but a solid player who I think has earnt his keep. He's also one of a small group in the last few years who would consistently get games in some of the better sides.Doesnt deserve to be slandered like he is around here.

Now numbnuts, I'm going to have to watch old replays in 2006/2007 to keep you happy.
You don't remember walking away from many, many AFL games when Bowden changed the tempo of the game with 'go slow' calls as the self anointed General to the backline, clamming us up and spreading through the side upfield into the midfield? When we had times to attack and he bottled us up with holding on to the ball unnecessary.....and his consistent habit of going sideways, and holding up play too early in the 3rd or last Quarter? The failed kick outs? The holding onto the ball too long? Holding on to the ball so long and avoiding options that in the end he had to run the ball throw for a point. (He's nearly singlehandedly had the law of the game changed because he is the biggest offender of running the ball through!)

Mate, before you cream your pants again over Bowden........just remember.....as he has his average bits of play as an AFL player and some actually woeful........he's only a veteran defender in a wooden spoon side.

You and I could stand in a hole on an AFL ground......and most of the time we'd get clobbered and we'd probably stuff up the on-coming opposing player.
Doesn't make us special, maybe courageous, maybe unlucky or lucky, or maybe just stupid. I want more out of backman than that.

Like I said, if you think Bowden was great THAT game, fine.
I know many more people who have said that he's also ****ed us up. Especially since Gas and Kellaway have gone and he thinks he rules the backline.

And again, he might have been a shining light to you, but in the teams and years we've had........that isn't saying much!
