For all you Brisbane folk, can you please let us know how these 3 players played.

Michael Martin, 2 goals and in the best. How was his game? Is he worthy of selection?

I see Hadley had another good game, is he close to being selected?

How did Crakers go? He would be handy at CHF because today the CHF position lacked.

With some of the performances today, Those 3 players could be on the verge of coming back. What do you people that have watched the reserve game think?

We didn't make the game this week. I see Da got another 5 goals.
We needed Martin and Hadley this week.
A few 2 many seagulls today. Just watching, hanging about, not doing the 2nd and 3rd efforts.

Maybe a few need a break in the magoos to freshen up.

What was with the coach, siting up in the box, hands on head, relaxed. Not a care in the world. 3 minutes from the end. Show some emotion please.

I don't really see why Matthews should be expected to show "emotion" in the coaching box in regards to the result of the game. Likewise, I certainly would be disappointed to see some sort of over-the-top reaction at this stage of procedings.

Whether or not the result was disappointing, seeing Matthews crack a mental (like Maverick is well known for), would probably suggest that there is something seriously wrong with our team, rather than just the fact that they had a bad day.

Sometimes it's better just to write the day off, and start again the next day, with what you know is best, and has worked many times before. If that's the attitude that Matthews has, then I'd hardly expect him to be cracking a mental just at this point in time.

Similarly, Matthews has often mentioned that he is not a reactionary coach. He does not suddenly jump at every second event that occurs out on the ground, nor at any one particular result.

It would need to be a couple of results like the one today (in which we were well below par), before Matthews were to show any outward signs of frustration or anger in the manner that seems to be expected.

I would much prefer that Matthews reaction, be one of an ultimatum to those players who have not been playing well for some time, in that they lift their game or reassess their standing at the club.

I would much prefer our coach at the 5 min mark to go and down by 3 kicks, to be showing some interest in field placements, something, anything. Not siting with his hands on his head, loking like he's at a Sunday BBQ, having a yarn.

Forgotten utility Mick Martin produced his third strong performance since returning from injury and his fifth quality game in five outings as the Lions Reserves struggled to brush aside a determined Mayne at the Gabba today. Ruckman Clark Keating was close to best afield to halftime, winning numerous one-on-one contests, and continued to dominate the hit-outs in the second half as the Lions won 17-12-114 to 9-10-64.

But the scoreline did not portray the effort of the second bottom side, who trailed by just 15 points at the last break, but could not match the Lions’ naturally superior fitness in the final term.Keating continually smashed the ball forward from the bounces in the final stanza, providing a glut of ball for his running brigade. But the Lions were comprehensively beaten at ground level in the first three terms. The Tigers were extremely aggressive at the ball and their tackling forced the Lions into numerous errors during the first half. The Tigers booted the first three goals of the match and it took the Lions 21 minutes to register their first goal. Dale Nolan booted two long goals from centre-half-forward, and Troy Fisher booted another beauty on the run from the boundary line. The forwards received silver service from onballer Danny Nolan, who ranked alongside teammate Tim Lynch, Keating, and Nolan’s opponent Craig Bolton as the most influential player of the opening half. Nolan’s disposal was immaculate whether in the open or under pressure and he was afforded the distinction of being tagged by Jarrad Wright and Bolton at the start of the third term. Bolton was able to get the ball on several occasions in two-on-one contests, until he was shirtfronted by Barry O’Brien at the nine-minute mark of the third term and only returned in the last five minutes of the game. Nolan also took a buffeting and while still influential in the third term, was outplayed by the dogged Wright in the last. The Lions led by three points at halftime, 5-4 to 4-7, with Darren Bradshaw held goalless by Mark Dennis. But he blasted four goals in the opening 12 minutes of the second half to help his side to a 30-point lead and the dam appeared set to well and truly burst. But the Tigers had plenty of fight left and booted the last three before the final break, courtesy of former Lion Richard Champion. Champion hardly touched the ball in the first quarter and a half, beaten on numerous occasions one-on-one by Luke Weller. However, like his teammates, Champion persisted, and he gradually worked his way on top to finish with six goals for the match. He could not produce the much needed first goal of the final term, with Bradshaw leading and goalling in the opening minute to put paid to the brave Tigers challenge. The Tigers were a completely different outfit to the combination that conceded 38-19 to the Lions earlier in the season. They mostly used the ball as well as their rivals and they stuck perfectly to a game plan devised by coach Neil Bourke that frustrated the home side at times until the last quarter. Martin ran hard on the wing all day and provided the zip that so many of the Lions were missing, while Richard Hadley was strong in the air and clean on the ground to be his side’s most consistent player over the game. Make-up player James Rozynski joined Hadley in saving the Lions on numerous occasions across half-back, particularly in the second quarter when he was close to the side’s best player for the term. He marked strongly and was quick and clean on the ground as well. Nick Raines provided plenty of run all day and his three goals were just reward for a courageous performance where the lithe midfielder constantly put his body on the line. In other AFLQ games over the weekend, the Northern Eagles boosted their finals hopes considerably with a strong 16-12-108 to 8-9-57 win over in the injury-hit Mt Gravatt. Redland survived a scare from a bottom side for the second week running, piling on the goals in the last 15 minutes to beat the Western Magpies 15-12-102 to 10-6-66.The Southport machine continued its relentless march towards another grand final appearance with a 23-23-161 to 7-2-44 win over Labrador, with star forward Steve McKeon booting nine goals. Morningside tuned up for their home clash with the Lions Reserves next week by putting a severe dent in Broadbeach’s finals aspirations, winning 11-10-76 to 5-14-44. Scores: Lions 1-2, 5-4, 10-11, 17-12-114 Mayne Tigers 3-4, 4-7, 8-8, 9-10-64 Goals, Lions: Bradshaw 5, Wright 3, Raines 3, Hammond 2, Martin 2, Keating, Morrison. Tigers: Champion 6, Dale Nolan 2, Fisher. Best, Lions: Hadley, Martin, Keating, Raines, Rozynski. Tigers: Lynch, Collins, Champion, O’Brien, Housego.
