Does anybody else think it's wrong of the left to take over the Victorian ALP considing that we don't vote for a left ALP?

You always must consider that a party may change it's power structure furing a term and if that happens so be it. You could find Peter Costello leading the coallition into the next federal election and did we vote in Costello?

It's politics you just have to put up with it.

If Peter Costello did become the PM before the next election, it wouldn't change many things. He was part of the package when the Liberals were voted in.....

We did not vote in a left ALP. This is a way for the left to take over the party which is in government, thus it's way to influence public policy. This is not good for democracy. If they (the left) wanted to have some type of influence over public policy, they should get voted in like everyone else does, not through a backdoor and making deals in the back room.

Why not let the Left wing in?
Left wing is better as is taught in university Political science (Left wing; GOOD! Right wing; BAD! is basically what is taught in almost all uni's). And, hey, this is only a central government that is taking power in Victoria, it's not like it's anarcho-trotskyism taking shape, don't whinge;):P!

I'll tell you why!!!

The unions leaders (unions = left wing of the ALP) get 'voted' in by bully boy tactics. Why should these type of people who are not voted in by the public, and who are afraid of 'ballot box' elections should influence public policy and control the state government??

Image if the federal government had an internal fight and big business could put their men in influence positions in the Liberal Party, just because they gave the most money to the party. And then they had influence over public policies. It would be an outrage!! We didn't vote them in. We didn't vote for a government who had those types of people in it's party.

I'm not saying that the left is bad, I'm saying they should not be taking power by the back door.

Hawks Fan, this is so naive as to be risible. What makes you think big business doesn't already run the Liberal Party.

*sigh* As I've been saying..... If you vote FOR those people, it's ok. BUT if someone tries to get power through the back door, I believe it's wrong.

You understand???

I think you would find Costello's social views quite different to those of Howard as well as his view on the monarchy.

I think you will find that there are things that go on behind closed doors in the Liberal party which are similar. I can recall that the Victorian branch was taken to caught in the early 90s over a pre-selection scandal. It's politics and all those in it will do anyhting to get ahead including stab their own mothers in the back.

The monarchy issue is a very minor issue.

That was the Labour party...... They were branch stacking.

Both parties are as bad as each other.....

All have branch stacking, backstabbings, noses in the troughs, liars, sexual dalliances, etc etc etc......

This is the real truth.....only those "true believers" or "Howard's brown nosers" would disagree......

The Liberals don't have branch stacking.
