I wouldnt doubt that he or she was there. Severity of the knee injury is doubtful though.

We aint the Hawthorn board and don't ban someone for looking in the wrong direction.
Tell you what we'll do. I'll sticky a thread for you in the player lounge (our sub board where game & training reports end up). We'll leave it there all year for you to dump your 'scoops' into and for the punters to post their replies.

Just some bad news for J.W.Smith.
He injured his ankle when they went on camp and didnt ice it that night, thought it want too bad and the club didnt have any ice with them ( where did they go?) Anyway it blew up like a balloon and he is now 8 weeks behind schedule. So dont expect him to be doing anything in the short term. The ankle is becoming a major issue for him. Cant get it right and any sort of twist/turn can affect it.
This is 100% correct info.
Just for any Blues fans, shame about Judd breaking down last Monday week ago doing his other side of his groin, they are covering it up very well, however someone in the media will be going with it very very shortly, the word is out. ( as usual no one has broken this) and l expect to be shot down. Lets wait and see hey?

Are you talking about the military thing they did - pictures in the paper the day of the Dallas Brooks Hall meeting?
Which would explain why JWS wasn't involved in any of the drills etc in Zebra's report . . . and would also explain why there was no ice at the camp (hard to simulate battle conditions with ice on hand).
So, are you saying 8 weeks from now, or 8 weeks in total?

Jesse was saying after the season that he will likely always have to manage the ankle. They were on an army base. It may very well have been that there was no ice immediately available so he didn't worry about it. There wold not have been a lack of ice on the entire base!
Jesse hasn't been in the practice (intra-squad) matches and hasn't been running with the main group. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is true. However, if it isn't season ending, or at least long term, I would say that the club is being overly cautious in order to get him ready for the 'real' stuff.
In terms of how long do we 'persevere', it's not like he's a liability. He is arguably our most talented player with great speed, good size, and sublime skills. He will be an Embley type player at his best. Near impossible to match up on.

Enquiries with a friend sort of confirms this. I am told his non appearance in practice matches and training is part of the general management strategy for his ankle. He has a problem that requires more management at the moment.
He did sound a little guarded so I hope it is as simple as that and not something more serious.

10 years ago Smith's ankle injury would have been a career ending one, he is likely going to have issues with it all his career. He will miss games because of it like Carey missed games constantly because of his shoulders.
When someone says he is struggling with the ankle my reaction is tell me something I don't know.
If he requires major surgery on it then that is newsworthy. He will have minor procedures on it for the rest of his football career to help manage the injury. I am just thankful that he can still play footy while managing the ankle.
