Yeah Alex smashed Powelltown: 28.20 (188) vs 6.3 (39)
Belgrave stayed in touch with Thornton-Eildon for the first three quarters (within 4 goals) but they stormed home in the last.

G'Day all.
The score for the Seville Yarra Glen match is wrong...the Thunder only went down by 7points. The score posted was for the u/18s game.
Was a good game with Seville jumping a very lost Y.G early to lead by 43 points half way thru the 2nd Qtr! Seville were ok but the Thunder had 6-8 players missing and will be better for the run....hope so anyway!

Us (Seville) and YG was a thriller. Last goal was a 50 metre penalty after the siren so margin was pretty much a point. YG did well to come back from 49 points at half time. We knew it was gonna be a bit of a battle with a few blokes out and a few unders playing 2 games but the kids really stood up. Silks kicking let us off a bit (sorry mate). Good to see CJ Harrison back after a year off. Quality player.
Watched the Under 18s earlier and was realy impressed with the standard of the game.

Belgrave Powelltown results not yet in but probably not much doubt that Belgrave won, just by how much.
YJ v Kinglake must have been a ripper - 2 points. The rest where fairly comfortable wins by the scoreboard.

was at the yarra glen game on saturday, YG looked ok! but emerald were pretty ordinary. YG need to play a bit better than that in order to compete against alex and thornton. heard they're still missing several seniors due to injuries such as some good forwards in their captain joel simmons and steven king.
also may add that it looks like they've got a few u/18's to pick from in their senior side, very good win by the unders. :thumbsu:
any news on the YJ and kinglake game? are YJ any good?

Might be hard for them. They had to forfiet the reserves, only 5 blokes turned up. The praccy match we played was good fun though, 13 of our boys joined there 5 and played a very even contest.
Hope they do well!!

i play for belgarve and it was so dissapointing that Powlly cant field a 2'S team, as the above post said 10 or 12 guys filled in for them and one bloke said that was the closest they'd come to a win in ages, 9 goals!
Oh well of to Yea this week. Go Belly

The Thunder Went Down To Kinglake Today By 4 Odd Goals..dissapointing But They Had 7 Changes From Last Weeks Side, 6 Forced, Plus 5 Players Out From Last Years Finals Side. Kinglake Were Ok But Nothing Special I Didnt Think, But All You Can Do Is Win, And Dont Know If They Are At Full Strength Either. 2nds Had A Good Win And Are Going Ok. Whats The General Opinion On The Reserve Grade This Year...seems A Fairly Ordinary Standard With Very Low Numbers And Playing On Long Weekends Does'nt Help Either!

Spoke to an unamed red head from the Yarra Glen forward line at an undisclosed Ringwood nightclub on Saturday Night that i rarely go to and he seemed fairly impressed with Kinglake. Good start to the season for the lakers.
Good work to young Okeefe snaging 8 in the unders then another 8 in the ones against Powely. We were reasonably happy with the result but i reckon it could have been even bigger if it wasnt for the 8000km an hour winds all day and if Dean Troyan converted some of his 26 points into goals (haha i know u read this). I think a few people saw the transfer list at the start of the season and wrote us off, but besides the 2 blokes that went to silvan for a mars bar and a can of coke per game, we had no great loss.

clarky you love dakers more than silks... and he must of been blind, cause i rate your boys better than kinglake. got a few good players but arn't a top 3 side, will be fighting for a 4th position spot with 5 other clubs. yg, had 8 outs from their win against emerald, so give em a few more weeks before they get rolling again!

Bit disapointing to see the amount of injuries we ended up having against Belgrave on Saturday. Just wondering if anyone who has played up there or even the Belgrave boys have had many injuries?
The ground had a really thick covering of sand on the surface and played a big part in 4 or 5 injuries over the day. A lot of the boys were complaining of sore ankles at the end of the game as well.
Probably the worst ground ive played on in 18 years in the Yarra Valley. And yes, I realise our ground (seville) is a potato chip.
Has anyone ever been in a side that has pulled out of a game on the day because the ground was no good? I know that we wouldn't have run out if we knew how bad it really was.

Luke, we've been pretty fortunate with injuries this year. We haven't had any injuries (ground related) there this season. Although we managed a couple at Yea...so figure that out. But you're right, the ground is in terrible shape. The reason for this is that the council has committed to pumping cash into it for revelopment. Unfortunately this has been placed on the back burner for the past 2 seasons due to water restrictions.
So in that time, they decided not to concentrate on the ground until the water restrictions are lifted. It will be fixed up, just a matter of when is the unknown.
And try playing cricket on it during the summer...it can get interesting.

Very even competition with Yarra J and Powelltown seeminly out of the finals race and Yea with a dicky percentage. 7 teams still we an excellent chance of making the finals.
Kinglake at home unable to stop Emerald kicking a big score..hmmmm.

I'm new to this forum and have been following divvy 2 pretty closely having watched all teams at least once this year.
I think there are 8 teams with a chance of finals. I think yea will beat seville and emerald in the next 2 weeks and kinglake will lose to belly and thornton. Yea will be battling with seville, belly and emerald for the last 3 spots come finals.

Thanks rustyhawk,
Attended the thornton v seville game on sat. It was the 2nd time I had seen thornton and they were good. It was the first time I had seen seville so it's hard to judge them as they were up against the top team.
I've also heard from a birdy that thornton have a few of last years seniors (sharp, marshall, chapman) running around in the seconds. Is this true? Also that Brett Herridge and Tim Phelps have also been playing 2's.
I f this is correct Thornton seem to be building a very good side as all mentioned players are definite senior selections. The big additions would be Sharp and Tim Phelps who alot of people in the yvmdfl would not have seen. I seen him a fair bit in the cgfl and he is a very highly talented player. He's coming back from a knee reco but he would be in the top half dozen players at thornton look for him to be in the seniors as early as next game.
I also hear they may have signed a forward from bendigo way who kicked 60 odd goals last year. Dont have a name or know much about him.
If this is not right any one from thornton feel free to correct me.

also welcome from me in2rested. im from thornton so id thought id clear up a few rumours you have heard.
firstly i didnt think we were that good on the weekend, probably only played 2 good quarters but as you said we have a few to come back.
sharpy and andy marshall are just playing a few games in the 2's here and there this year both because of work committments and they dont want to push anyone out when they cant committ. we have one chapman playing and the other will be back from injury in a couple of weeks.
yes brett and phelpsy are in the 2's. brett not playing as well as he used to and phelps as you said comin back from knee and will be a great addition. probably 2-3 weeks away just the confidence thing.
not a bloke from bendigo its actually one of our players nephews and hes from mornington way. hopefully he will committ.

OK surely you must be a little dissapointed that guys are playing in the 2's as with a few of these guys in to strengthen areas would make you almost unbeatable. I just heard from a friend that a forward from MT Pleasant in the heathcote league was going to thornton I thought this may have been the new guy but he mustn't be.
Just another quick one I'm interested in a few players who played back in early 00's and was wondering whether they're still playing
Sean Murphy a very good quick winger ( played in 06 ?)
Travis Dent one of the smartest and skilled players i've seen (see his name occasionally in best in 2's)
Matt Herridge a good hard rover (who would be well suited to yvmdfl)

havent heard of the mt pleasant bloke sorry.
Sean is working and playing in tassie. played in our 06 gf side against warby and was great that year.
Travis still has good skills but is badly out of shape. if he got fit he would be a senior player.
Matty plays about 2-3 games a year but has trouble with committment. he gets all excited then looses interest quickly. living in dingley probably doesnt help either.

Who was the big bloke who played in the forward line for thorton 2s and snagged the goal from the set shot about 60 metres out on the angle? He was fairley handy for 2s. One of our boys was saying he was from Dromana i think??

I'm trying to find out who he is all i know is he's about 19 and relation to a current player. If he's from dromana he would be fishers relation. I heard that he might have been from the bendigo area last year but the pupsta sorted me out on that one.

A bit of a review of the alex v yg game i seen on sat. I actually thought YG would win this game with alex dropping a couple of good players for disciplinary reasons. It started off that way but alex took control of the game in the 2nd and posted a very easy win. I know now how N Oakley won 2 bf's has he was huge in this game. They also had a big forward who looked a likely type (McKeown?) and with those players returning from susp. they will only get better. Thornton's loss wasn't a huge surprise to alot of people as they lost at the same ground last year and according to pupsta had alot out. But it just gives the rest some hope and it will be interesting to see them against kinglake this week as a week as we all know is a long time in football.

YVMDFL Weekly Wrap June 7
In 2nd Division it was Emerald who shone the brightest from all of the results. Taking on the previously undefeated Thornton.
Emerald were looking to make a statement and that is exactly what they did. They dominated last year's premiers and came away with a 63 point win. It now propels Emerald right into finals calculation as they will now have higher expectations of themselves. Jesse Mather kicked 8 goals for Emerald while Alex Hellriegel was judged Emeralds best for the day.
Thornton was best served by John Elliot, 4 goals, and Kevin Brown worked hard all day.
Kinglake continued their solid form with a convincing 74 point win over Belgrave. Brent Gallicho was a welcome sight up forward for Kinglake with 8 goals as Nathan Warne and Paul McMahon continually drove the ball forward. Tim Beare and Mark Francis were solid contributors up forward for Belgrave with 3 goals each.
In other matches, Seville accounted for Yea by 37 points, Alexandra put a dent in Yarra Glen's run of recent good form when it was defeated the Thunder by 27 points.
Powelltown won its first game in 2 seasons when it defeated long time rival Yarra Junction by 11 points.

A bit of a review .
Good idea to post some game reviews on this thread.
The Thornton/Kinglake game was a massive win for the Boners. It was a physical and very rough game bordering on being out of control at times. There were head buts, eye gouges, punches thrown and jumpers ripped off.
After one incident the umpires said they had to card someone off but weren't sure who so they allowed a lesser player t nominate himself to go off. I think they need to look into the experience level of the umpires they use for certain games before someone is seriously injured.
Thornton were very depleted again, a few doubling up from the 2s and a couple of under 18s. They only had 17 on the ground for the majority of the game and after a broken leg (get well soon Steve) a sternum injury and a concussion there was nobody on the bench. A couple of others who would normally have gone off (leg and shoulder injuries) had to grit it out, and in fact were imo in the best couple on the ground. Very gutsy.
Congratulations to all the Boner boys. A wonderful team effort where every single player stood up when needed. :thumbsu:

Yes rosy it was a massive win for us and we showed a lot of guts considering the situation. we had 4 play reserves and seniors and 3 from the under 18's. add to that our captain getting sent off twice and 3 game ending injuries. in saying that the 3 boys from the u18's were the ones that got us over the line in the last 1/4. all 3 probably playing the best game for the club in any grade.
The Great GALOOSH was a bit of a GA LET DOWN only kicking 2. he took a couple of nice marks early but had no impact. add to that the guy that played on him strained his a c joint just before half time and couldnt lift it half way to his shoulder. great effort fluff.
Couple of good players for the lakers that we will have to watch for next time.

Pupsta, obvoiusly sounded like a good win on the weekend after a few had jumped off the bandwagon after the loss to emerald who have held form and thumped Yea. Unfortunately my work commitments over the next 5 or 6 weeks will prevent me from seeing any games so I have to rely on this and the yvmdfl website to get some info. Just wondering about some players who have missed a few games recently. Creed, Hardy, Chapman, Edwards and McLean are they injured or unavailable and when are they expected to return ?? Also of the injuries Rosy spoke about are they long term??
drago from ussr

hey interested onlooker
thought i might be able to help with the ppl you spoke about...
M Hardy has been in Darwin and is expected back this week same with Andrews (not Edwards) he was in Bali but back this week... R Chapman will be close this week if not a definate next week, mc lean also as he had hamstring injury , creed is uncertain yet , Steve Elliott broke his leg this weekend so thats not good , sharp was the other player rosy was talkin bout which im not certain of but he was gonna come bac on if needed sat but couldnt as he left the ground from the boundary not the interchange.. Shane elliott also is available this week after a shoulder injury and musgrove would be hard to stop playing tough as they come. Breen another hamstring due bac next 2 - 3 weeks and boxer another senior player should be back soon as well...
Thats bout all i no for now

Thanks for that Drago
That's bad luck for Steve breaking his leg is he a chance to come back at all this year?? Also there seems to be alot of players to come back in and that is going to make thornton very hard to beat down the track. Interested to see that Sharp and Creighton both played seniors (although I see both played 2nds as well) I think they are both in your best side and it was only a few weeks ago that pupsta and rosy told me they are only playing 2nds. One last one what did you think of Gallichio - everyones been talking him up like his a star and pupsta said he had little impact even with creed not playing. My feeling is that if Kinglake couldn't beat you on Sat with all the players out you mentioned then they probably never will.

14th of June 2008 match reviews
In 2nd Division,
Thornton played host to Kinglake, with both sides looking to get back on the winners list after losses last week. When the final siren sounded it was Thornton who came out victors with an impressive 34 point win. Thornton was best served by Kevin Brown up forward with 3 goals while Zack Carden and Bernard Hourigan dominated around the ground. Adam Wolfenden and Craig Louak worked hard for Kinglake while Brent Gallicho with 2 goals again provided a target up forward.
Emerald continued their recent run of dominant from as they travelled to Yea and handed out a 129 point hiding. Leigh McCombe, 9 goals, and Jason Cousins, 4 goals, led the way for Emerald up forward as Shane Williams and Shane Buhmann dominated the midfield. Yea was best served by Pat Mc Kenna and Ryan Akers with Aaron Pacey kicked 2 of Yea's goals.
Yarra Junction got onto the winners list for the first time this year with a 18 point win against Seville. Daniel Lever kicked 7 goals for the Eagles as Rob Clarke and Justin Gates were solid performers all day in the midfield. Seville was aided by the performances of Paul Bailey, 3 goals, Shane Senior and Leigh Atkins.
Yarra Glen stopped any plans that Powelltown had of back to back wins as they defeated them by 66 points. Dean Selkrig, 6 goals, Ben Benson, 3, and Darren Edwards, 3, led all scorers for Yarra Glen while Ethan Shaw was again a solid performer. Luke Darwall, Sam Camilleri and Russell Cowan led the Powelltown charge with another improved performance but there just wasn't enough in the tank to get them across the line.
In the last match of the round, Alexandra ventured to Belgrave and was able to head back through the Black Spur with a 30 point win. Marcus Hill with 5 goals was best afield as Luke Heard and Michael Bretherton were not far behind him. Jacob Meyer was again amongst Belgrave's best alongside Ben Harris and coach Darren Sidebottom.
