Certainly sounds harsh Charlie, but i would like to hear both sides of the story before i make any moral judgements. It seems strange that they would rather close down the club than wait an extra 10 days to get the money. Wouldn't it take even longer than 10 days to get the money back if the club was shut down? And even then they might not get the full $6500? Doesn't make sense.
Surely there are 6-7 people at the club that can kick in a grand each and then get reimbursed by the club when the sponsor comes good? Anyway i hope you guys can get things resolved.

The problem is, the players and officials already put in as much as they possibly can. Not one of the players is paid, unlike the other clubs around the area, who buy former AFL players at will, such as Brett Cook, John Barnes and Tyson Lane, to name a few.
There is a glimmer of hope that maybe the council can save them, but they've only just put out their budget for the next financial year, and have basically promised the world away (new administration wants people to like them I suppose).
I wasn't trying to be nasty posting this on here, I just wanted you guys to think about perhaps asking the club why? 2 weeks doesn't that long to wait, especially when the mistake was apparently made by one of their own employees.

OK. Now... It looks as if I owe an apology to the Essendon FC. The Centrals have just cleared the air. Yesterday the secretary of the MCFC told my father it was a loan. He was bending the truth a bit. I just got off the phone, and it wasn't a loan, it was the tab for the alcohol that the club sells over the bar at seniors matches. They've overspent, and the Bombers, who own the country club, want the money they're owed. There's nothing wrong with that, I agree.
This secretary guy said it was a loan that they had... Well Dad got the full story out of him. Sounds like he was willing to let dad, and by extension me and the bigfooty community stick his neck out to help the club. It doesn't help the under-18s players one bit, but it isn't Essendon's fault. The guy at the country club is also going to lose his job.
I'm sorry for this... I didn't deliberately mislead you, I was mislead myself. This post is about 5 minutes after I got the full story. So I haven't lied to you.
My apologies to Essendon Football Club and to anybody who's upset with this.

What really shytes me about this is, he starts the post bagging the Bombers, without even knowing if the story was true, maybe he could have been a little more tactful from the start until he was sure of his facts, but know he comes out guns ablazing on 3 different boards on BF, allowing all the Bomber haters to once again vent their spleens against the EFC. :mad:

I like Charlie. He loves his club and his community, and he has some manners which is a rare commodity on this site. The facts of his story may have changed slightly but the crux of it is still his club owes Essendon $6500 and they are threatening to close them down if they don't get it. Good luck Charlie, for what it's worth i think you guys will be ok - it doesn't sound like Essendon have anything to gain by closing you down if the potential sponsor is genuine.
Mantis - calm down. Essendon gets the sh*t bagged out of them every day on this site, one more won't make a difference.

Exactly. Just another day really.
If you guys want to be nice to him OK your perogative, point is he went about this the wrong way, you catch more flies with honey, maybe he should have contacted the club to express his disappoinment with what was happening & maybe they might have helped out, instead he goes on a public forum bagging the shyte out of them with false accusations.
Sorry, any sympathy I would have had for him or his club has been soured by his approach to the problem.
Essendon comes first with me, anyone else a far distant 2nd.

Essendon bashers are everywhere, who gives a **** about em?not me... Goooo Bombers.
This guy got it wrong, he apolagised, good on him for having the guts to do so.
