What are peoples thoughts?

I just got a digital box top($450) and the picture quality is excellent, also there are four extra free to channel programs I didn't know about so first impressions are very good. But what about Plasma Screens, are they worth the megabucks?

YES!! but my advice would be to wait for the inevitable price reduction, unless you really need one right now. Believe me, if I wasn't a student and was working full time I'd have a plasma screen tv tomorrow.

Yeah, everyone will probably eventually go for the set-top box 'coz the Full-On High Definition Tv will cost around $10,000

cheers

Digital TV will be awesome once all its characteristics have been developed for a mass market. This will allow you to communicate with a central server. If two footy games are on, you can choose which one will be shown on your TV.

I find the digital services improving here...Sky Sports Cricket is pretty good, you can pick from 4 cameras as to where you watch from, there's a stats section, scoresboard and highlights as well. BBC do a reasonable job on the tennis too, usually 4 or 5 matches to pick from at any one time...
Frodo, you want to get it couple up with a PVR, like Tivo (check out www.tivo.com, I think) These boxes will radically alter the way you watch TV, and are worth every penny...there is a new similar system in the states (who are getting sued by all and sundry) that edits out ads automatically, so when you watch a recording, no ads...brilliant!

Digital is much better for sport. It gives you better options as to the view you get or exactly what you watch. Give it time in Australia and it will improve.

A friend of mine (who posts on bigfooty sporadically) works for one of the free to air stations here in Brissy. All the staff at the station were supplied with a digital set top box recently. After finally getting it set up, she says she couldn't imagine going back to the old view. And apparently the stereo sound thru the tv is fantastic (she has one of those tv's that can produce stereo sound if the signal has it)

Personally, once the stations implement the multi-view components they have the capacity to deliver, then I will probably go and buy one.

A tv cannot possibly reproduce quality sound. You must have a home theatre amp and the correct speaker set up to truly appreciate good sound quality from DVD's, videos or tv.

But I agree about digital tv.....it's a must have.

Well it might be when it finally reaches the Top End......at this stage digital broadcasting isn't due to commence until at least 2005 up here..........

at least the prices will be much more realistic by then......

Not according to this tv - and the difference in sound quality!

It has an av/stereo tag on it, and the 2 channel L/R option for AV cable audio input rather than the standard AV video in/audio in duo plug at the back.

And suddenly sitting in the room the sound is almost coming from 'behind' you............very unnerving experience after watching free to air on it for a long time then going to digital free to air.

Dunno how and dunno where or why - but this tv has the option. Even has the equaliser option that can be adjusted once it picks up a stereo signal. And she has had this tv for a few years............methinks it is time I actually asker her the brand and tried to track one down for myself.

I was going to say that Dave. I get the SkySports cricket coverage on FOXTEL here and drool over the options that you guys get for watching cricket over there ... I can't wait until the Channel 9 cricket team get that happening over here, hopefully it won't be too long....
