im not going to get all down and such because in a way what i saw saturday i expected as much, we had a new coach and a very young team in.
But can anyone tell me if they saw any signs of a different game plan out there? To me it looked exactly like the melbourne of the daniher years when we struggled, high-possesion matched with a shocking skill level and it just doesnt work. fair enough there were kids in there and like i said first game cant expect the skills to be that high. But the enthusiasm and competetitveness just wasnt there for the first quater and a half and thats what has me dirty!!:mad:
If you were making your afl debut of sorts you think that would be the last thing laking.
Was heartened with the efforts of some:
Chunk: leading from the front
Martin: thought he was fantastic in the back line, backed himself didnt try and do too much
Valenti: On effort alone. his skills are not up to afl level as of yet as isnt his awareness.
Messen: was serviceable enough without being spectacular, and it could mean the end of jamar and johnson so that is good enough for me.
Garland: still way to skinny but he is smart enough to play some good games for us this year as a floating foward.
Buckley: brilliant second quater great run
On the negetives i would say this:
White: Is finished as a class ruckman in the league
Yze: How is he in the LEADERSHIP GROUP
Robbo: Looked FAT!! Or was it just my new wide screen tv??
Holland: Is finished as any sort of backman in the afl except for games against collingwood
LACK OF GAME PLAN AND ENDEVOUR GOT TO ME MORE THAN ANYTHING THOUGH. anyone else agree?

I think you're overreacting mate. It's only the first round of a NAB cup against the Premiers in their death pit of a home ground. I suggest reserve your judgment until round 1 at the very least, these coming weeks are all about experiments and so on. I can tell that it is a bit worrying but have some faith and then decide:thumbsu:

Experienced players... did you see any? I saw about 6. It's a new coach, and it's his first game in charge. Getting into the thick of things takes a bit of time, especially with such a young side against the reigning premiers on their home turf. Plus it's the NAB Cup... means nothing.

i have plenty of faith like i have said before give bails five years at least to prove his worth he needs to rebuild. Skills might take a while to come through but endevour and enthusiasm should be there, score board doesnt worry me. If we get done by 12 goals and have a red hot go it wont bother me in the least.

Its a bit hard to have a game plan when you aren't even fielding half of your side. What you don't realise is that this wasn't about any sort of game plan. Yesterday was about having a look at those players who aren't automatic starts in the side, and seeing who wants to step up and fill those remaining spots in the side.
Whats the point of having a game plan when the dynamic of the side is going to change drastically before round 1? Save your criticism and look at the positives.

Could argue then its the perfect time to try something new then like a gameplan and see if it works?

Point taken am jumping the gun on the gameplan subject, probaley just was looking at the players n letting them play, endevour had me more upset, probaley coz i hate geelong so so much!!

It takes time for a new gameplan to sink in, give it time. It won't happen straight away, especially when you have so many young guys playing. Plus our skill level is still poor, as it generally is early in the season. So give it time.

No what I am saying is that our game plan isn't based around 17-18 year old kids, but our key senior players. I just think its a bit rough to criticise a team full of first gamers who come up against the reigning premiers who weren't missing many.
The kids will know the game plan, when the players who it is based around are in the side. Before you flush our gameplan down the loo, wait and see how it works when Neitz, Mclean, Rivers, Carroll, Moloney, Bruce, Davey plus others get back into the side. If its still not to your liking, feel free to go ahead and bemoan the lack of a game plan.

They'd be making those mistakes out of habit, given the panic attacks they'd be getting playing Geelong in a packed house in Geelong. When you shit your dacks, you do what you know best or easiest, and it's going to take time to really drill in a gamestyle into the players minds. Give it time

Play finals with what? Your home brand midfield?
Mate, you have one key defender in the twilight of his career, a decent forwardline I'll give you, but a very poor midfield.

Your having a laugh arent ya? midfield is underrated stants, nash, JJ and that they arent flashy but get the job done plus good ruck stocks and obviously the premier forwadline in the league and big fletch holds the fort down back. we threaten geelong

Premier forward line, you idiot, Lloyd has done his hammy, so I suppose the great Courtney Johns will dominate. Just in case you didn't realise Sir James has retired, and your spine may be good but they are all very close to retirement.

Rubbish thread on all counts.
I can't be bothered deleting all the posts stained with the tripe from the essendon clown, so I'll just close it.
As for the OP. We're one game into our preseason campaign. New coach (new ideas) + the young side we selected + against the reigning premiers + in Geelong = cluster****. We did well to not get beaten by triple figures. Let's not overact this early in the year, otherwise it's gonna be a really long one for some of us.
