After what must seem like ages Division One kicks off this weekend.

Round Name: Round 1 Starting Date: 19/4/2008

Home Team v Away Team Location
Mount Evelyn....... v Upwey Tecoma....... Mount Evelyn Football Ground
Silvan................. v Warburton Millgrove. Silvan Football Ground
Olinda Ferny Creek v Gembrook-Cockatoo Olinda Football Ground
Woori Yallock....... v Healesville............. Woori Yallock Football Ground
Monbulk............... v Wandin.................. Monbulk Football Ground

Based only on last years form, unlike the 1st round for 2nd division this seems to be a draw just about favouring all the home sides.

What do you think?

No, I think I'll go against the home sides in a couple of games, Rusty Hawk.
Mount Evelyn have recruited well, but I'll still stick with Upwey on this occasion. Gembrook had a shocker at Olinda last year, but I'm going to tip them to win this early relegation battle. Woori Yallock vs Healesville is always a good game, but Woori should be too strong here. Wandin seem to have lost a number of players this season and will find Monbulk too strong on Saturday. It will be a very different-looking Warburton side to travel to Silvan on the weekend. Silvan, back on their home ground, should record a comfortable win. In second division, Yarra Glen didn't quite manage to get up at Seville last week, having come back from eight goals down to level the scores late in the last quarter. I wasn't particularly impressed with them, but they should be able to down Emerald on Saturday. Thornton will be too good for the struggling Yea, Alexandra will defeat Seville, Belgrave over Powelltown and, in the match of the day, Kinglake may sneak home from the Junction.

Stopped to look at the Silvan ground last night while driving past and I wouldnt want to be playing on that ground just yet if I were Silvan. Grass still looks very young and the coverage is pretty thin and patchy. Im tipping it may look like a beach by mid-season.

Im looking forward to seeing how all the teams shape up heading into round 1. A few good games to start off, Woori v Healsville stands out as a ripper to me
