View Full Version : Daisy Thomas robbed of goal of the year
By kicking it today in a practice match against Port just before half time
Umpire bounced the ball in the goal square 5 mtrs out, absolute shocker of a bounce made it fly towards the goal line and took Cameron Wood and the Port ruckman out of the contest
Thomas jumps up in the air and performs Pele's bicycle kick in mid air before it hits the ground for an electrifying goal on the half time siren
Cameron Wood by the way was fantastic taking 2 big marks in the forwardline for a goal and a handball to Rocca for another goal

was a good goal, he knew he kicked it straight away as did the goal umpire most of the crowd thought it came off a fist, was a wonderful goal
Was just on the news, pretty freaky.

That was the best goal!
They should give him a trophy :D
What actually happened was (I saw it from side on) that the ball was bounced in the goal square, went up and in its flight post bounce was looping away from the ruckmen towards the goal line.
It was just about to come down from its highest point when Thomas coming off the goal line (his back was facing the goal) jumped into the air and kicked it in midflight over his head and through for a goal, about 3 seconds before the half time siren went.
Easily goal of the year.

Sorry, but how was he robbed? He kicked it in a praccy match and most likely tried it because of that reason, what do you think Mick would have thought of it if he tried that in the Prelim match last year?
It is pretty obvious they have been practicing this move down at training or at least talking about doing it at some point during a game, remember Didak tried it last year but kicked it through the behinds.
No doubt if it wasn't a 1 in 100 fluke then he will do it again.
Sorry, but how was he robbed? If you have to ask... :p

I was up that end of the ground yesterday, but I thought it had been punced through until the ump signalled a goal.
I agree about Princes Park, it is a putrid hole.

So the above picture of him coming down is after the kick (obviously) but he landed on his feet? Thats a fair effort!

Had a look through youtube, and couldn't find it.
Saw the stills of it in the paper today, and it looks like an absolute freak goal.

I was there and it was quite spectacular. Better than the Daniel Wells goal a few years back. He has the knack for the special does Thomas - he just needs to work on the basics. I noticed a couple of times he tried to do some fancy basketball style hit the ball back to himself when he could have taken clean possession. He needs to get that out of his game before he can make the next step in his career.
Was impressed with Cam Wood's 2nd qrt and John Anthony looked good as well. Dawes looked a little lost as a defender, but was pretty hard at it.

He was robbed because they don't count nominations from practice matches for goal of the year.

Obviously you are psychic and also very hard to impress.
So this was simply a set play the boys must have thought up at quarter time. Definitely a massive over-reaction from all who saw it then. Not really that spectacular.....
Could not possibly just be a good goal could it?
Back in ya hole.
When Matty Richardson does something even remotely similar jump back on and let us know.
I'll explain how it was an accident as he was actually winging at the players up field when it accidentally hit him on the foot....lol

Check out ABC's offsiders on their website. They had "exclusive" footage. You will have to sit through most of the show to see it but it was worth it - what a great goal!

such a shame Magman was red carded although I do find it amuzing when someone is suddenly red carded, always want to know why?

So defensive, it's not like I was saying he is shit and a dud player, for god sake, all I was saying that he obviously saw the opportunity had done it before whether at training or with his mates and tried to do it.
Now that I have watched the video I can't help but think how dangerous it was, Dale has gone and done this in a Ruck situation, so therefore it means at least two ruckmen trying to tapout the ball, now we have all seen the repercussions of when someone tries to use their boot at a ruck contest, if you don't remember then go and ask Jeff White how his face was feeling after getting it kicked in by Steven King.
Isn't it strange that the two bicycle kicks in the last year have been done by Collingwood players?
Shows to me that it was preempted and although obviously he wouldn't have said to the ump, "Bounce it my way and I will try this", but he has definelty been talking to his mates or someone at Collingwood about "When the ball goes high enough and comes straight to me I will try this", in fact I would put it as far as going he will try and do this again some time this year if the ball is high enough in the air again.

It's the AFL's fault for changing the ruck rules - if players were able to grab the ball out of a ruck contest, this sort of thing wouldn't have happened.
