View Full Version : Why Risk
Chris Judd in the practice match next week. Why play him if his not 100 percent. It doesn't matter if he doesn't play round 1 we have to think of the long term with him. He is best player in the comp if his ready round 10 play him round 10. He is too good of a player to be risked.
If he's not 100% then he won't play. Simple

He's been doing full training for a few weeks now so they want to see how he pulls up after a half of footy.

I don't think we would play him if he wasn't under 100%, and he has been training solidly for a while now.
Just makes sence to chuck him in for a run about before the real stuff begins.

Perfect time to play him. Perfect surface, large bench and shortened quarters. If he's not fit he won't play, but if he is this is his last chance to blow out the cobwebs before round 1.
Actually I disagree with some of the responses above. Judd isn't 100% because without gametime behind him he can never be 100% fit, that's why we're playing him next week. He's over his injury troubles but he lacks match fitness. A meaningless practice match where we can sit him on the bench for most of the match if needed is a perfect way for Judd to begin his return to full 100% match fitness.

Well, clearly he isn't at 100% in terms of match fitness, but in terms of his groin, you'd think he'd be close to 100%.

id rather see him start round 1 theres more excitement about his debut if he plays round 1 in front of a near sell out crowd instead of some hack practice match.

A fitter Chris Judd and a greater chance of winning more games for Carlton
vs
Slightly more excitement for the few people who are aware the practice matches exist
Which to choose... which to choose... ;)

Why risk him in round 1 ...or for that matter round 2?....lets not even risk him for the 2008 season .
He has to play sometime we can't wrap him up in cotton wool forever.
His rehab is going to plan ..the club has stated all along that he would be READY to play a half game in the last practice match .

After Judd's comments about playing through the pain last year, I think he'll be moer than aware of the risks of pushing it too far and too fast, and if he is sore during the week I wouldnt have thought he'd play.
If he lines up take it as a huge boost in confidence of a big input in 2008.
i think the only difference between Chris Judd now and a 100% fit Judd is match fitness
he has done all the work but needs a solid hit out before he plays a real match.
if he makes it through the game he has 2 weeks before Round 1, plenty of time for him to see how the groin will recover after a match!

Silly thread.
The Carlton Football Club would NOT risk their marquee player, their captain, in a practise match if he was not fit and ready to play.
From all reports, Judd has been training at full pace for a few weeks now so is ready to play.
The only thing is, is that he isn't match fit. That's the whole bloody purpose of these practise matches - to get people match fit before the season starts proper!
We cannot keep Judd wrapped in cotton wool for the whole preseason and expect him to be back at full fitness without playing a game. That's why he'll be eased through the match vs the Bulldogs where he will regain some match fitness and be a little more prepared for round 1.

He even said not to expect him to be playing at his best straight away- needs a few weeks to get the touch back. Although just having him out there will give everyone a lift.

Nup. Apparently I'm the board stalker.
I'd be pretty confident that the club wouldn't risk C.Judd at all. He's way too valuable for that. He'll only play a half, and for all we know, it may be the second half, when some of the speed has gone out of it.
He also may play up forward, and perhaps only stints in the midfield.

We simply have to win this game to get momentum going into the season. Even if it means injuring him further, Judd should be played for as much of the game as possible. You know it makes sense.

that's true. but what if he is 100%??? That is probably the case. He has said; and the staff have agreed; that he won't play if he's not. So I think he would be completely recovered atm; which would be the only reason he's playing.
Essentially, he's gonna play prob half a game; get some game time the next couple of weeks, then be close to complete match fitness come round 1.

Yeah, be nice. I used to love leaving home on a Saturday to get to the ground by about 12.30 -1pm. Used to soak up all the old history of the place whilst having a pre-game discussion with the people sitting around me. Days.

If you really need something to worry about, try global warming, at least it provides a genuine cause for concern.

I'm gonna run with the 'myth' response to global warming - if we were experiencing global warming, why did I get the flu last week? Just doesn't make sense damn it.

Oh good.......another Judd thread........
He has been doing training at 100%.
If he is close to playing the next stage of his rehab will be to get him into game like conditions.........like a practice game.......for a half.
Depending on how he pulls up will depend on whether he plays round 1.
Treat it as a fitness test for round 1.
