View Full Version : Bailey, Dowler, Thorp, Jacobs: Where are these guys at in their preparation?
Does anybody know where these guys are at with the preparation for round 1?
3 of those guys are kp players, and having watched Dawson play without any improvement, I think it's particulalry important for us. Yes, and I'm the guy that bags Jacobs, but if fit, he's certainly better than Dawson!
I also believe think Bailey is quite important long term, because I, like others, see him as a quality ruck, and is he makes a good recovery, will make a signifcant impact. Maybe not this year, but certainly in years to come.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.:thumbsu:

No idea how they are going, but i can tell you now that i knew 2 years ago that Danny Jacobs would never cut it at Hawthorn. I was overwhelmed by the amount of people trying to tell me i had no clue about the game, that Jacobs was obviously a very good player and was the general of our defense.

I'm only going on what others have posted on here over the pre-season, but my take on it is as follows:
Bailey - on track to play for Box Hill in the early rounds.
Dowler - some minor injury problems, but near to playing.
Thorp - surgery in the off season, hopefully near to playing.
Jacobs - minor injuries and/or personal issues, near to playing.
Please feel free to update or correct my assumptions.
Dowler played yesterday.... lead well from CHF took some nice grabs kicked one and layed a few off in a belting by Williamstown.... looked the goods.
Thorpe still away off with his hip.
Jacobs had the ball on a string yesterday, picked up posies at will, looked a complete class above.... has a place in our best 22.
Bailey not far away, will be looking at playing at BH over the next few weeks.

Am really hoping for big seasons from Dowler and Thorp this season. Would like to see Bailey get a few games too. If all is going well with the likes of Dawson, Gilham, Dowler and Thorp I really couldn't see Jacobs playing too many games this season. He might end up being post-seasont trade bait.

No way. He will be a useful BH player in his last season in senior footy. Has lost his pace since he did his hammy so badly in 2006.
Baily is on track but will wear the knee brace in competitive training and games for a while. This is merely as a precaution given ruckmen clash knees so often and with so much impact. He is otherwise doing all the non competitive work without the brace.
Source....The lad himself. Rusty and I are his Gold sponsors in 2008 and we have had the opportunity to have a good chat with him only 2 weeks ago.

Any other news from the BHH match? Any other Hawthorn listed players line up?

He was good player and important to our defence, but had being crippled by injuries through bad luck and playing through injuries when we had no one else.
Its easy to say "I told you so", but harder to read in between the lines, and realise that Jacobs actually did a good job for us, and would be handy still injury free. I'm not quite sure how anything in recent times has proved your point, because Danny was in the side and a key member until he got injured.
Unfortunately, it looks like his body is shot.
