dawes could be rested, and has been playing backline so with wakes and brown back would of been squeezed out.

Once again that squad is looking very imposing

No Burns or Fraser but most of the R1 team will come from this lot. Hope we see an improvement on last week.

Suggested to my wife that we could perhaps postpone dinner out for our wedding anniversary from Friday evening to the Saturday - and maybe try somewhere in Shepparton. That went down well!

LOL, sounds like an excellent suggestion to me.

Still no Burns, Wellingham or Stanley, I guess we don't want to get any ball in the midfield. :(

How about giving him a go in his natural position - up forward!

Still have Pendlebury, Swan and Obree.

Disappointed to see no Wellingham. Also, what's the go with Shannon Cox? Has he played a game this pre-season?

Still no SSB.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he hasn't played a pre-season game yet.

I thought Stanley may have gotten more of a go in the pre-season games. May have a niggle.

Stanley was allegedly the best of the Pies' listed players in the intraclub match before the Port game. Niggle unlikely, but not impossible.

He has plenty of time to play up forward in the VFL if they want him to. Now is the perfect opportunity for:
1 - Him to learn how good forwards play by playing on some AFL standard forwards
2 - Add some strings to his bow as a player
3 - Turn him into a defender because
a: We need defenders. After Presti, Wakelin we have no standout players who can play FB or CHB on a gorilla apart from Brown.
b: Dawes' opportunities as a forward will be slim against Cloke, Reid, Rusling

Ruslings injury prone and he might squeeze out Reid. ANd he kicks straight:D

Hmm, skipper being is being rested. (Josh Fraser)

Burnsy has yet to have a hitout but I guess at his age he has had so many pre-seasons under his belt it will not significantly affect him in the season proper.

Agree last weeks game showed definite flaws in the midfield. Lots of slight running players who were continually bumped off the ball. We need solid hardworking (not necessarily flashy or flimsy) midfielders to push the ball out of the centre to our runners. Also the kicking and disposal wasn't great it should not be about number of possessions a player obtains it surely should be about what they do with the ball and how effective they are.! At the end of the day everyone talks number of possessions well maybe it should be number of effective possessions I am sure that would change the stats considerably.

Why no Dawes I wonder:confused:

Time for trying out the youngsters is over. The last practice match should be, as much as possible, a full dress rehearsal for Round 1.

(the exception for this rule is getting game time into players with interrupted preseasons, eg Holland)

How about giving him a go in his natural position - up forward! Not that he is playing this week but there are exactly the games to try blokes in different positions. I think it is fantastic to see Dawes tried down back. We have a few young marking forwards – probably 1 more than we need. At last we are trying things with players and not welding them into a position from the age of 18.

I agree with you to an extent. However how is he supposed to try and prove himself in these types of games, if he isn't even allowed to spend any time in his natural position and show his true worth. To me he has looked a little bit lost down back, this could affect his confidence, and next thing you know this feeds into his performances.

Exactly, forwards at our club who cannot kick accurately for goal are a dime a dozen, it's the ones who can that we should be promoting.

How about giving Reid a go down back? People used to say we should have given Tarrant a run back there because of his motor and speed. To me Reid seems a similar type player, and from what I have seen his disposal is about the same.

To me he has looked a little bit lost down back, this could affect his confidence, and next thing you know this feeds into his performances. He can prove himself by succeeding in a new position. He could make a name for himself as a defender. He is current behind Rusling and Reid and has only played a handful of VFL. It is very early days. He has all year t stake him claim be it as a forward or a back. Meanwhile it is far better we have some idea whether he could play down back before we look at who to call up during the year and who to draft at the end of the year. I’m happy for him to play CHB all year in the 2s. If nothing else it is good for a forward to see how the other half thinks. I wish we would do more of this not less. How about giving Reid a go down back? People used to say we should have given Tarrant a run back there because of his motor and speed. To me Reid seems a similar type player, and from what I have seen his disposal is about the same.Very happy to do that as well.

Can we all say a prayer for Rusling..... That he will get through the game injury free.
Crucial for our flag aspirations.

Pendlebury, perhaps?
