Not really, but Kerry, back to back reigning All Ireland football champions are saying no..
Safety fears cited as Kerry say no to Rules
From The Irish Independent
Wednesday, 5th March, 2008
The GAA's efforts to re-float the International Rules have suffered another blow after Kerry's decision to reject the latest proposals.
Kerry County Board discussed the issue at length but decided that safety of the Irish players against the Australians could not be guaranateed.
They have therefore decided to mandate their Central Council delegate to vote against the proposals at the key meeting on March 17.
Kerry's decision comes after Dublin had given tentative backing to re-establishing the series.
Overriding
Kerry chairman Jerome Conway said there were a number of reasons why Kerry delegates had opted not to support the recently negotiated proposals but that player safety was paramount.
"The overriding concern of the delegates was the safety of the players playing for Ireland and because this could not be guaranteed, Kerry will be voting against the return of the international rules series.
Already Down and Antrim have sounded their intention to vote against the Dubai agreement with the AFL and a range of other counties, including Mayo and Armagh are due to give their imprimatur this week.
Conway acknowledged that there had been an effort to clean up the hybrid game.
"It was accepted that there has been an effort made to clean up the series and suspensions could be handed out and served in the domestic games in both countries.
"However, this would, of course, be after the foul deed was committed but delegates were not prepared to tolerate foul play on the scale witnessed in the last series with a promise that the culprits would be punished," he said.
"While the safety and protection of the amateur player was the main concern, there were other factors raised that means we will be saying 'no'."
Conway outlined how the impact of the series on club fixtures, player burnout and poaching of young talent all may have influenced the decision.
"Those included the impact the series would have on county and provincial competitions such as the senior county and club championships, intermediate and junior club championships all the way to provincial level have all now taken on a new importance now that there is an All-Ireland series.
"More minor considerations would be the shop window factor where by we are offering the Australians to come and watch our best young talent playing and poach them Down Under.
"Then another consideration was the burn-out factor that was discussed nationally only a month ago and it was felt by extending the playing season because of this series would be contributing to the burn-out that we were trying to eradicate by ensuring some of our younger players played less.
"But I would have to say that the overriding consideration was the protection of the players," noted Conway.
"The recent series had left a very sour taste and the Kerry delegates felt that we asked to go to the well too often."

Looks like it is up to Eddie and the Collingwood Footy Club to carry the can on this one for the AFL. Don't blame the Irish for not being interested. See what dullards like Chris Johnson have done for the game?
