View Full Version : Buddy's goal from the boundry against Adelaide ....
i was just thinking about it
I remember watching him take the mark, the commentators started talking about how its near impossible to kick. Its kinda funny, at that moment i had NO DOUBT AT ALL in my mind that he was gonna kick that. To me i kind of find that a bit odd, seeing as he had goal kicking yips for weeks, had barely touched it yet you know at that point in the game when we are surging towards an upset ( didn't happen in the end but oh well), I did not even comprehend that that ball was not going to sail through the sticks from that angle. Watching with my 2 crow supporter mates who were shaking heads and muttering " Oh god not again.." was a beautiful thing. even though they had the last laugh
Its good to have a player that you know you can rely on when the moment arises. Buddy is definately that player. Who knows what highs and lows we are gonna get from him this season. you dont often get a player who will kick 2.11 one game then win a final off his boot a fortnight later. Looking foward to the ride.

Interesting isn't it.
When he had that shot on goal from 25m on the angle and missed at the other end - I never thought for a second that it actually would go in, but with the boundary shot I felt very comfortable.

Also Hodgey's goal from the same spot i was confident he would kick it his kicking for goal has improved can see Hodge kicking over 40 goals this year:thumbsu:

I was also quietly confidant it would go through. The same as the Adelaide final last year.
That’s what’s great about him though. The unknown, the X factor. I'm, not sure players like him can perform for 4 quarters though. Did he kick 3 or 4 in the last qtr of last week’s game? Plenty of times during games, commentators would say Buddys quiet, gone missing, and then, 3-4 goals. He's such a confidence player, that a pressure boundary line goals, like those 2 Adelaide games, seem to suit him.
If he could turn it on for 2-3 quarters, it would be better. I wouldn't say I’m concerned about his accuracy, because he still avg 3.3 goals per game in 07. If he could maintain that for the rest of his career, I’d be happy.
Stats say he played 22 games last year. His first 11 games yielded, 64 scoring shots (Out of bounds not included), for a 54% accuracy. His 2nd 11, 68 shots at 55%. "If", you took out the round 21, 2 goals 11 behinds, it would be 65%.
Again, "if" he converted just 25% of those behinds last season, he would have kicked almost 90 goals. So let’s hope 08 brings good fortune for him. If he and Willo could kick 50-60+ each, it will be a good year.

When buddy misses you always get the feeling he's about to have another shot anyway - so it doesn't matter as much.
As much as I'd love him to be a dead-eye-dick I have to admit the not-knowing adds a whole new element to watching footy!
Intersting that Clarko made a point of saying that buddy had 3 bad quarters and "everyone's aware of it". All in all he's had a pretty ordinary pre-season. He's a pretty laid-back guy - will turn it on when it matters I think

This is exactly true in my case!
I was sure he would have no problem slotting the one from the boundary but knew he wouldn't kick it from straight in front.
The solution is simple. Let's make buddy lead deep into the pocket, and he can just slot them all from there. no problem:thumbsu::)
On the subject of goal kicking,
I know that Sammy isn't the type to get the chance very often, but when he actually did on two or more occasions last week, he let us down.
A captain is supposed to step up in those type of situations.
As far as i'm concerned, there's no excuse for any FOOTballer to miss a shot at goal, it's their freakin job for cryin out loud, no matter what position you play.
I was also quietly confidant it would go through. The same as the Adelaide final last year.

When Buddy "turns it on" he kicks 4 in a quarter. So if Buddy could in fact "turn it on" for 2-3 quarters a game, we wouldn't lose too many!
And the TAB would close betting on the Coleman medal!

Thought the same thing, NG.
Looked very nervous when he realised he had the shots on goal. The second he charged out and created a great leading option, but really needed to convert.
Don't think DO!

Especially hurt when one of them was worth nine - 2 points out of a potential/should have been 15 was poor.
Was always a kickable goal for him. Same ground position as the goal he kicked against the Lions last year just before half time. His style seems to be designed for freak shots like that.

was a shocking kick my sister could do better
I knew he would kick it too because it was in exactly the same spot that Fevola kicked a goal for carlton to win the game by three points a couple of years back. The kick even had the same trajectory. An average kick really as it had all been done before;)

Buddy's goal was better, because he's Buddy. :p

My first two thoughts were (aprt from 'oh shit') were Elimination Final 07, and Fevola. He was never going to miss it, everyone knew who was at the ground.

I agree with most of the earlier post about whether Buddy would kick the freak goal and miss the set shot.
I'd still rather him kicking all the set shots AND the freak goals too. Much more fun.
Jeez it's good having him on our team :thumbsu:

Buddy from 20 out directly in front, close your eyes and pray. Buddy from outside 50 on the fence, wrong side for a left footer..........money for jam.
