Inspiring choice, anything else would have been a mistake I reckon. Glorious year coming up for Burns - 250 games in 3rd game as Woods captain, and a flag!

What a relief, the other choices were hardly inspiring, especially the Josh Fraser talk. All the best skipper, we know you'll always do us proud.
I've had his number on my back since 1997 and couldn't be happier.
Congratulations Sir Scott very well deserved.
very good choice. Will do the job admirably and if he plays like he did last year i cant see why he wont be there in 09

although there is no doubt burns would make a great captain i somewhat wonder if its hte best decision long term. i mean this could very well be burns last year, and with the youngsters we have coming through i feel it would be better if they were in a stable environment rather then having to change captain in 1 or 2years time again
Congrats to Scotty even though I was campaigning for Josh. Mainly because I didn't think Burnsy would want the job.
But as far as a captain being deserving of his title then Scott Burns is the one and I couldn't be happier for him.

If we'd picked Lockyer or Maxwell I guarantee we'd be changing again within a few years - but for all the wrong reasons.
So...we start the campaign now.

congratulations Mr Burns... you will undoubtably do us proud-as you already have...
a great way to cap off a wonderful career for the magpies...2008 captain and hopefully premiership captain.. GOOD LUCK SCOTTY!
A fine choice...
Although not a long term option...once his career is at an end we'll probably have too many options for Captain (which will be great!).
He will help bridge that gap....but by no means is his appointment a gap-filler IMO.

yep... he epitomises the collingwood spirit!!!
According to an article in todays herald sun.. burns is only in because this is his last year and and we need to give pendles another season before he can accept the role?
maybe this is true... but burns deserves this position more than any aother at collingwood..
Congratulations Scotty! The right choice was made, we all know that. :thumbsu:
Congrats to Josh too in becoming vice. IMO there is no doubt the club has probably said if you step up and remain fit on the field you've got a real chance in getting the gig when Scotty retires. No things are certain though.... if someone steps up to be a clear leader then they'll get it.
At least now we can all move on BF fans. Geez all these threads about who would be captain gave me the shits.

Really was the only man for the job but whether it was him, Fraser or even Alan toovey, they only toss the coin right? What they do on the field counts for more and and burns is gonna be the same leader he has been for the last so many years whether he tosses the coin or not. congratulations, but burnsy will do the same thing that got him captaincy whether hes skipper or not but he deserves it 100%

Gotta agree. This is not the Richmond board. We support any player that is wearing the black and whites stripes of Collingwood.
Agree Maxy has his work cut out to continue to retain his place in the best 22 over the next few years, with Goldsack, Harry O and JA appearing to play similar roles and they, perhaps have a few more tricks but Maxy gives 100% every game he plays.

He may give 100% and he still he isn,t good enough.
Jason Wild gave 110 % and he wasn,t good enough.
SO RAPT! Well done Sir Scott. Such a great choice.
wow, according to some posters fraser was a lock. i loved the ones who said it had been decided months ago. anyway, good one burnsy.
YES. perfect choice.
no one really screamed out to be captain and therefore it had to be burns. hopefully he can take us through another 2 years and by then pendles, heater, cloke (whoever it is) will be cherry ripe for skipper.
awesome, bring on 08.

Scott the wrong Scott.
No way.
Scott Pendlebury is way too young to be captain.
Scott Burns is ideal, hes had a lot of experience.

Excellent choice, and great for the club.
Please don't denigrate our other players when celebrating this elevation of a Collingwood Champion.
We had several quality candidates and the best man won, to suggest anything else is to take away from not just those that missed out, but the man himself.

great choice, deserves it after all he has given to the club. no one really stood out and it would be great to see him with the club come september.

Can't we have something like this as a pictorial banner across the top of the board? Just for a short time, to celebrate?

Hahaha good on ya Eddie
If, as Eddie McGuire jested, the appointment of Collingwood's 44th captain is comparable to the election of the 44th American president ("One of them will have the hopes and aspirations of the world on their shoulders and the other one will be an American"),
Congrats Burnsy.

Great photo of Burnsy in todays Age, with Bucks, and Scotty's No.17 on full display. By coincidence our young lad Beau Muston who tragically did his knee again on the weekend is also no.17 . It would be great if he would give the young lad some counsel, about overcoming this adversity, and then to strive onto this time of personal jubilation.

Jason Wild gave 110 % and he wasn,t good enough.
Maxwell improved enormously during 07 and I think he'll get quite a lot better yet - unless they "work him out" somehow like what happened to Jason cloke but I doubt it. He'll be a valuable player for us for years but captain maybe not such a good choice.

Paul Licuria is the man he should speak to.
