Is it about time we rated the top 10 players in VAFA history-regardless of which section they were in or how many state games they have played? And it can be from all eras.

I'll start things off by lisiting my top 10:

1. Jock Nelson (MHSOB)
2. Bruno Conti (NOBs)
3. Michael Blood (Old Xaverians)
4. Michael Yeo (Uni Blues)
5. Robbie Fuller (Old Scotch)
6. Michael Ritterman (AJAX)
7. Robert Gross (St Kevins)
8. Brian Bourke (De La Salle)
9. Russell Barnes (Ormond)
10. Tony Fellows (Thomastown)

Jase, I cant believe it's been this long since you started a new thread! Why dont you have a team for each of the decades from the late 1800's through to now?

I don't know if you'd agree with me, but I think doing a 'Top 10' list is far better than a 'best team', because the names come to mind much quicker and you can rank players in order rather than having 3-5 players fighting over 1 position on the field in a 'best team' scenario.

Jock Nelson was my year 12 Economic teacher and was in charge of discpline. If you played up or had your socks down or were caught shagging chicks in the boading house, you went to Jock's office and he would tear strips off you. He was the hardest and scariest man I've ever met and I shudder to think what he was like on the footy field. He also had some of the most right wing ecomomic theories since Reagan! He was very much one of those players who apparently would have walked into VFL footy but loved being an amateur.

No room for Johhny Bell? Has there ever been a finer presenter of awards on Grand Final day? Number 15 - David Bear or this classic Matt Fluffacunt.

E Brooks and J Kennedy from Teachers College have to be up there, as does the great Lindsay Hassett and N Beattie.
None better though than Con Didlios from Coburg or the great Dan 'I'm the Man' Stagliano.

Lindsay Hassett, not just a great VAFA player, but one of the great Australian cricket captains (taking over from the greatest Australian player & captain-Sir Donald Bradman). Was part of the 1948 'Invincibles' Tour of England and captained Australia on the 1953 tour of England (a squad that included one R. Benaud).

Ahh, Briza remember Didlios very well . As if playing out at Coburg wasn't bad enough, we had to come up against this mad man. Boy was he fearsome and could seriously play.

Would have thought some of the guys who have medals named after them should be considered.eg Fellowes from Thomstown, Ritterman, Manton etc

Check your facts Soupsey, Bloody played with SKOB in D Section for a year or 2 after year 12 then went onto Old Melburnians in A Section then to Hawthorn then to Old Xaverians.
