The Chad picked Essendon B for the 2008 wooden spoon on the appointment of Mark Harvey as its coach last year. primarily becasue of his terrible attitude and what appeared to be a complete inability to change the mental culuture of the club.

today he blamed the heat for his team failing to score 60 points for the second week in a row.

spoon or not, it's bottom 4 for Essendon B this year.

they'll struggle to beat richmond with the high-possession, low skill, potluck forward line gameplan harvey has bought in. and the astounding mental weaknesses in the team which he will never rectify

why bay 13? freo have scored less than 60 two games in a row. pre-season or not it speaks volumes about whatever game plan they're attempting to learn under harvey

Whilst I agree that this thread is a nice little troll - it should be pointed out that the Fremantle heirachy made noises prior to the NAB cup starting that they would be aiming for wins to start the season off with a winning habit. One game from four is hardly to plan.

Happened overnight to Geelong. Infact 12 months ago people were saying the exact same thing...

Yeah but the wheels had been in motion for some time. It took a whole preseason, then 5 rounds of the season proper, to get it right. In between we saw signs that there were changes to our mental approach, whereas I'm not seeing anything different from Freo so far to suggest there is anything different.

So what were these signs you saw? Because there's been a few signs coming out of Freo this preseason that there's been changes to our mental approach too.

So basically you're saying that even though it took Geelong until round 5 to get into gear, Freo are screwed because we haven't started firing before the season has even started?

as someone brought it up before, sydney rarely wins preseason games, yet look at how they did 06 and 05

last year collingwood got thrashed in the NAB cup, and then in practice games after it (IIRC), and at the time i remember countless threads like this one about the pies. yet they came within a kick of the grand final. x

and of course....CARLTON...

I think you are slightly confused. Essendon has done nothing in the pre-season in recent years, however that is more due to our poor team more than anything.

Consider the fact that when Essendon won the 1993 and 2000 Premierships, I'm almost certain they also won the pre-season competitions as well.

as many have said before it's only the nab cup, old or not i'm pretty sure were not suffering from "premature adulation" like some of our younger and less experienced cross town rivals. im sure we'll cum to the party we just don't want to cum too soon.

You do realise having an old team is good.... if you are coming off a couple of premierships and are giving it 1 last go at another :D But when your club continues to fail in some of the most pathetic ways imagineable and continues to pick up rejects other clubs don't want... being old is a bad thing :D

The Chad laughs heartily. a week closer to the wooden spoon fremantle. i love the excuse being thought up by the media as to harvey's selection policy...they're giving him too much credit by claiming this was a "last chance game" for his team of hacks. kepler's yet to be given his last chance anyway.

round 2 = another excuse when the "young dockers" like third-season ibbotson are belted up by the hawks in front of the freo fans. this is a tanking year for the dockers, the great irony is that harvey will be there on draft day to help out the essendon old boys once again - burning yet another crop of decent freo draft picks.

2008 may well be over for the dockers but we should all be very wary in 2009 with a revamped midfield (influx of peverill and j.johnson) they will be very hard to beat.

The Chad predicted Fremantle to win the wooden spoon UPON THE APPOINTMENT OF MARK HARVEY.

Not at the start of the year.

Not after the pre-season cup.

Not after the first couple of rounds.

Upon his appointment back in 2007.

The reason given was Harvey's inability to turn around the mental culture at Fremantle. The inability to turn around indiscipline. The inability to break the shackle of medicrity the club had embraced. Was a 'hard man' to the media but still soft as butter and probably underperformed as an assistant coach in order to get cuddles knifed. The Chad was mocked.

The Chad then posted in pre-season about Fremantle's game-plan. Too high possession. Too low scoring. Not enough skilled players in the team to execute it. Too frail. Pav-reliant. The Chad was mocked.

The Chad predicted Fremantle to suffer a "premiership hangover" after beating west coast. Too much made of the win. West Coast having a pathetic year. Fremantle never have consisentcy. The Chad was mocked.

Fremantle are a joke. A pathetic club. A worthy wooden spooner. Melbourne may yet deny them that tag, albeit on percentage.

But the time for mocking The Chad for a nostradamus-like prediction of their slide is OVER. Lay it on The Chad.
