From the February 2008 Potent Mind nominations we have selected three (3) finalists for your consideration.
Please select your nominee from the information provided below and then vote. Note: This is a public vote.
Nominees listed in alphabetical order.
All are very worthy finalists. Check the links to the threads and see what your fellow Bay 13 posters have said about each of the finalists. Two of the three have been nominated for their OP in threads whilst another has come in the middle of a thread and added his/her thoughts. Tough choice ahead for you all.
Potent Mind is defined as: The Poster you wish you could emulate - that poster who has the perfect answer for almost any situation. They think fast. They counter with logic or argument that their adversary offers. They maybe a troll, but that is not the only string in their bow. They always seem to have the right answer at their fingertips. They provide such a compelling argument that they develop a following. Neutral posters see things their way after reading their post.

The Fourth Reich on Bay 13
Comrades.
Let me say up front that there are some very intelligent Hawthorn supporters on this forum. Many of them have teeth. They have a lower percentage of colostomy bags amongst their ranks than the Port supporters. Nor do they spend their holidays down at the Moe Caravan Park like the Sainters do (NeXus Helen - stop sending me those holiday snaps!!!). On the whole, I like Hawthorn Supporters and they have every right to expect a big 2008.
Back in 99, when we beat them by less than a goal (Robbo knocked it over the goal-line after a bounce up in the square) I noticed a very disturbing phenomenon when I descended from the Members to sit in their midst: when agitated, many of their eyes go purely white, as if their irises have rolled upwards fully into their skulls. Look for this phenomenon yourself next time the HFC is having a Ben Dover experience. Perhaps this agitation came from having experienced so much success prior to 91 and the Batmobile (“Life’s tough – so what!”). But trust me: if any supporter-base could play the mutants in The Omega Man or its remake I am Legend (WITHOUT make-up, please note), it is the Hawks supporters when they are enraged.
To my mind, on this website there is a well-defined and growing-in-malice Bay 13 National Socialist Hawthorn Workers’ Party – or Hawthorn Nazi Party for short.
Given how often they post, their names are all known to us. It is not for me to say who is their equivalent of the Big A, Himmler, Heydrich, Goebbels or Goring. I really do not know where a dish-licker such as Shotta would fit into such a schemata.
But make no mistake: as their stridency and fascist propaganda would have us believe, could season 2008 turn out to be a Poland 1939 experience for the rest of us with only a few cavalry to man our defences if their List delivers as expected?

24 Hours in the Life of Terry Wallace, AFL Supercoach
Comrades.
More than usual, I need your help on this one. Apologies if it falls flat on its face.
I want us collectively to construct an imaginary day in the life of AFL Supercoach, Terry Wallace.
I will start off at 6am. I need someone to pick up the threat and post something for 7am, then someone else at 8am, 9am etc and so on.
I daresay it is going to be a long day for Terry - the day could end at 5am and be a disaster at that. You decide how he fares !
As the initiator of this thread, I have four requests:
· At some point in the morning he has to receive a Jeff Gieschen-inspired package in the mail that immediately arouses his suspicions, not least in an olfactory sense
· About the same time, he has to take a phone-call from David Smorgon. Same hate-mail has arrived for the former Bullies coach, and Smorgon needs to post it on. The word "Judas" needs to be included at this point.
· Midday, he has to take a call from Legendary AFL Hardman, Kent Kingsley, who wants to widen his involvement down at Punt Road by . . . .
· Later in the afternoon, down at Punt Road, he has to have a one-on-one training session with Richard Tambling.
I hope this all makes sense. So here we go:
6am - Terry Wallace awakes with a start following a bad dream where Rod Grinter had been centre-stage. After checking that his dentures are in place, Terry opens his eyes fully.
Oh shit ! he had been watching a replay of the 83 Grand Final on repeat in his private solarium, and he had fallen asleep under the high-wattage sun-lamp.
Terry looks south. His willy-wagtail has been burnt to a crisp. The same comment applies to much of his body. With a whimper he reaches for the phone and calls his good friend . . . .

Dirtiest Team Ever
And now for something completely different.
Here is list of the dirtiest team I could come up with. There is a fine line between being tough, and being dirty. For example, Francis Bourke was as tough as nails, but he was not dirty IMO.
The one name below that I agonised over was Tuddenham – who was as tough as Francis Bourke, but with more of an edge.
Stevie Baker / Ron Andrews / Worsfold
Jimmy O’Dea / Whitten / Grinter
Mad Dog Muir (vc) / Williams / Dipper
Mal Brown / Dermie / Rhys Jones
Matthews / Lockett / Farmer
Ditterich (capt), Millane, Tuddenham
Interchange: Jack Dyer (apologies, but Big Shadow is First Ruck), Mopsy Fraser (hearsay), the Collier Brothers (hearsay, but the photograph of Leeter looking backwards is enough for him to be included IMO).
This side is guaranteed to play only one week, be busy on Monday, hit the garden the next few weekends, and re-group a few months later.
With apologies to: Jade Rawling, Saddington, Brent Grgic, Bryce Gibbs, Guy Richards & Warwick Capper
I am sure someone could come up with a team to play them, perhaps featuring some of the names immediately above. Call them - The Nice Boys
Please let me know where I got it wrong.

Our second finalist Chewy was nominated for these rewordings to famous John Lennon songs.

John Lennon and the Richmond Football Club thread
426 games, 10 Grand Finals, 7 premierships, 4 as captain, all records...
John Lennon also made a lot of records (about Richmond)
Jealous Guy
Terry was dreaming of the draft
And Miller's heart was beating fast
He began to lose control
When Tambling slipped to 4
Chorus:
They didn't want Lance Franklin
6'5" and so fast it makes you cry,
They didn't want Lance Franklin
You're just a jealous guy,
You were feeling insecure,
You don't love "Bling" any more,
You were shivering inside,
When Buddy start to glide
Chorus
You could not believe your eyes,
With each goal you tried to hide,
You were swallowing your pain,
Richmond's loss is Hawthorn's gain
Chorus
----------------------------------------------
Woman (for Wayne Campbell)
Wayno... I can hardly express
My mixed emotions at your gutlessness
After all, you were the coaches' pet
And Wayno... I will try to express
My inner feelings of contemptuousness
For leading Richmond to a complete lack of success
Ooh, well, well
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo
Ooh, well, well
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo
Wayno... I know you understand
How to find love inside your man
Please remember, Daffy's knob is in your hands
And Wayno... try not to look peeved
get on all fours, ready to receive
After all, that is all the Tiges achieved
Ooh, well, well
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo
Ooh, well, well
Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo
------------------------------------------------------
Give Peace A Chance
Everybody's talking 'bout
Budd-ism, Judd-ism,
Fev-ism, Taz-ism,
Baz-ism, Gaz-ism
Trav-ism, Pav-ism, ism ism ism
All we are saying is give "Bling" a chance
All we are saying is give "Bling" a chance
Merry X-mas (War Is Over)
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
Another spoon won
And so this is Christmas
Have some draft picks
But not the number#1
That belonged to Carl-ton
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any cheer
How Do You Sleep?
After Wallet cut his Bulldog ties
The Swans and Roosy took him by surprise
Everyone knows he's in it for the bread
And Richmond's future is as good as dead
So Terry, how do you sleep?
How do you sleep at night?

Our third and by no means last finalist is GuzzLG for this post about Carlton and their finances.

Carlton's REAL Balance Sheet
We all know that they cook the books. Don't bother checking out their annual report, I got the goods right here.

Three very worthy nominees and excellent examples of the type of posting that elevates the standard of Bay 13.:thumbsu:

With apologies to the other two very, very worthy finalists, Guzz gets my vote here.
The combined use of sound accounting knowledge and practice, together with cleverness, wit, and downright hilariousness (I'm aware this word does not exist) makes him a winner.

Great quality on display. So difficult to choose.
I too, should apologise to Guzz and to Chewy before declaring a vote this month for Biff.
Have no complaints about the worthiness of the ultimate winner, as all were innovative and all shown great consistency over time. Surely each will end-up with a BF t-shirt this year to pajama their partner come Xmas.
But Biff has hit his trademark thread numerous times to challenge and also engage others this nom month. His style is less populist but not inaccessible. High variant value for b13.

Really hard here because all three have been brilliant and I am going to only vote for Hawk members when I absolutely have to. But Chewy gets no credit on here and for me is a poster that has yet to write a post that I have read that isn't pure genius one way or another.
Sorry to the other two but I got to vote Chewy here this time. Both of you have been great for the forum though and am sure will get my vote more than once this year ...

Well if you study the balance sheet closely, you'll notice that I stopped using a minus symbol when subtracting things the fourth time around (Fev's Dummy spits). Not very consistent in my presentation.:o
Don't know if I could satisfy the definition of Potent Mind given by Rusty. I guess people found the thread funny or clever, but I don't think I seem to have the perfect answer for any situation or anything like that. I'll stick with my nomination and vote for Chewy.:thumbsu:
Does the banner betting agency above have reciprocal rights with BF activity? Its gonna be tight, I think but I would love to see the odds.

There are two posters on this site to whom I have ' dipped my lid' as the saying goes and they are Biffinator and Dapto.
Dapto is not a nominee otherwise the decision might have been more difficult -- so while the three nominees are all worthy of recognition, my vote goes to Biff.

A hard choice to make. I went with the songs, my favourite thread of the month.
Almost a triple dead heat in a race filled with quality.
Biff's long proboscis just got him there for mine.

Bloody very hard to split em!!!
I'm really disappointed that I missed GuzzLG thread, very creative and funny OP:thumbsu: (reckon he is after an accounting job at Carrrrrlton FC!:D)
Chewy's work , changing a little bit lame but funny OP... into an absolute master piece, gets super consolation praise:thumbsu:
Almost impossible to split the 3 for different reasons!

Biffinator hasn't been posting on here long enough for his potent mind to erode like the rest of ours.
Really, the mods should bring some form of reverse handicapping into the equation.
Thanks for props, people.
Glad to see some folks enjoy my dribble. :):thumbsu:
