AUSTRALIA have cancelled their cricket tour to Pakistan over security fears, the Pakistan Cricket Board have announced.

Cricket Australia has called a media conference at 5.30pm (edt) this afternoon to discuss their decision.

The timing of the media conference follows a lethal bombing in the Pakistan city of Lahore.

The city's police chief said about a dozen people had been killed and several injured in a blast at the office of Pakistan's federal investigation agency.

I've only just turned on the radio, but the only statement I've heard was from James Sutherland stressing the tour had not been "cancelled", but in fact, "postponed".

Cricket Australia has postponed its tour of Pakistan indefinitely, after two bomb blasts in Lahore today killed at least 12 people and injured several others.

One explosion tore through the Federal Investigation Agency in the centre of the city, with witnesses describing the horror scenes just hours before Cricket Australia was set to announce their decision on whether to go ahead with the tour.

They say it could be postponed until 2009-2010.

Yeah, common sense. Way, way too unstable.

Under the circumstances it's probably the same thing. There'll no doubt be a joint statement from the PCB and BCCI in the next 24 hours decrying the great satan and announcing that India will be replacing Australia in all of Pakistans FTP commitments.

No big surprise and the right decision has been made.

If i wouldn't want to go to the country personally then i can hardly expect our national team to go.

My thoughts here:

I think it's potentially devastating for Pakistani cricket.

I think it's safe to say that if the tour was going ahead, the majority, if not all of the Australian cricketers under CA contract wouldn't have toured, it's clearly not safe to travel to Pakistan and of course the right decision has been made.

Hopefully by 2010, they've rebuilt the country and the bombings have stopped and we can tour Pakistan, either that, or it's played in neutral territory like the last away tour against Pakistan was.

Cancelled mate. It's not going ahead because of the dangerous situation.

You always have to believe what SEN tells you. Most of the time SEN is 100% full of bullshit.
