Received a bit of a rare find today, the original pilot show which later became McHale's Navy.

It was originally shown on Fred Astaire's Alcoa Premiere show, the episode is called Seven Against the Sea.

It's very different from what McHale's Navy turned out like. The pilot show is more of a drama with small bits of attempted humour, it does have Ernest Borgnine as McHale, with two others surviving the pilot to remain in the series

Well worth a look for those interested in the origins of popular old series

Good pick up.

The eventual comedy was a bit of a strange thing - made only about 20 years since the related events about a very bloody theatre (the Pacific) and US navy guys who were sent on near suicide missions with their PT boats.
