View Full Version : Round 22 2007 - Did we tank?

I found it hard to believe that we went into that game to tank. Libba said last night that we had the intention to lose, and I know he wouldn't know given he's not in our coach box but still, if you throw mud it usually sticks. Pretty poor comment I thought. Yeah OK we didn't put a man on Scotland but they didn't even lay a tackle on TJ. I'd hate to think we'd get dragged into this shit storm.

And I'll repeat what I have always said. I would not buy a membership of this club if they went into a game not wanting to win, irrespective of the circumstances. Yes, it's a screwed up system, yes it can be manipulated to a teams advantage for the future but there is nothing worse than not having the desire to win. I don't ask for much as a member, and this team has broken all our hearts over the years but this is the least we can ask for

If we did, then the match result shows that the desire of Carlton to lose at any cost was just so strong it could not be overcome.

No I don't think we did.
We brought back J Mac and Bruce for the game while they were dropping players like flies.

Plus we kicked the first 7 goals of the game. That ain't tanking.

When Doogy Brown kicked that goal and all the boys went over to him do you think they were trying to lose the game?

IMO highlight of the season

Mark Riley had everything to gain by winning as many matches as he could at the end of last season. Our performance was sh*t, but that was common throughout the year.

Juice tanking hangers also added emphasis to who actually wanted to win the game. Sorry but this thread is just going to show that we did not want to lose that game, despite whatever we had to 'gain' from a loss

Riley had to do all he could to prove he was worthy of the job full-time, there was no way he was going out there to lose that one.

Face it, even if you wanted to tank, you never would've out-tanked carlton.

The celebration of our players after the game said it all, and did you see the smerk on Rattens face!

IMO the Blues definitely tanked the last 7 matches - It could not have been more obvious watching the games - I couldn't believe the bookies weren't giving their opposition shorter prices because even if you weren't an "insider" it was as plain as day just watching the games that they were tanking. You could still get $1.40 on some of their opposition which was money for jam!! Thanks Blues

What did we miss out on by winning, was it Kruizer?

BTW, did juddy say Tanks very much after his interview on TFS last night?

Essentially ended up with Morton (pick 4) instead of Cotchin (pick 2).

And we've missed out on the first 2 picks in the draft in November. Assuming we win less than 5 games this year.

If you lose 4 games or less 2 years in a row, you get a priority pick before round 1.

We will have pick 1, pick 17(priority) and probably 18 or 19 instead.
Unless we win 5 or more games.

****ing hell

Who would support Melbourne following your theories?

You've got the whole thing mapped out already!!

Melbourne are a shambles but it could turn around any second. You need to get a life.

Yes Melbourne did tank but they were out tanked by the seasoned veterans. Nothing to be ashamed of there - you put up a great fight but you were too honest for your own good and unfortunately too competent when it didn't matter. Shame on you Melbourne Football Club:p

We tanked as well mate so Im not hiding from it. Yesterday's news from Libba wasn't a revelation - there are a number of clubs in the same boat. At least I can look at it objectively - yeah Melbourne was tanking but so what. It just proves that they are a little more honest and hard at it than Carlton is.

Anyone remember Round 22, 2003 - priority pick on the line and we "accidentally" throw a 5 goal halftime lead against the Swans. At least that was one game and not half a ****ing season.

Your team tanked massively, don't try to bring us into it to make you feel better.

Please try to stop being a vagina about our team. It's tiring already and the season hasn't started.
