Im sorry I have to disagree If you dont like Man on Fire you dont have a heart
He's made some entertaining films and if you look at a lot of Tony Scott, you see where Michael Bay came from.
No coincidence they've both done a lot of work for Jerry Bruickheimer.
Can't say I liked Man on Fire, nor Domino. Perfectly fine story wise, but he ****ed those films with hand held, over exposed film, over cranked camera.
So I need to say FFS Tony, you're in your 60's, stop being so self conscious about it, you don't have to try and be hip, just direct the script, in your old beer commercial style and stop thinking "what would a 15 year old on a skateboard do."

True Romance was a great film, but most of the kudos for that would go to Tarrantino rather than Scott. Aside from Romance, his resume is crap.
Ahh, good ol Mr. Close up.
I heard and have no facts or evidence to back this story up, but Tarrantino went to direct movies himself after his two scripts (True Romance and Natural Born Killers) were decimated by Scott and Stone. He used the money from selling the scripts to fund Reservoir Dogs.
I read the original script to killers and it was much better than the Stone release.
Anyway, whenever I see Tony Scott credited as director I have to think, do I want to see any of the action? Seriously watch his movies, 95% of the shots are a close up. Pan out for ****'s sake.

Nah that theory doesn't wash I'm afraid. Tarantino always wanted to direct films, and Reservoir Dogs was made before either TR or NBK.
Although the True Romance script was sold before Reservoir Dogs was made, most of Dogs' budget came from Harvey Keitel's long list of indy film contacts.

That it may well have been, but it's still by Tarantino's admission the worst thing he's ever written (it was only RD's success that made the NBK script hot property). But yeah, Killers is one of the worst movies ever made, no doubt, and most of the blame is Stone's.

He's hardly alone in that field these days.

I agree, however Tony Scott is the pioneer of close up movies.

Live Entertainment put up most of the money for Reservoir Dogs, they had a huge home video library, which is where their cash came from. They were then bought out by Artisan, who have now been bought out by Lions Gate, which is why Lions Gate has the dvd rights in the US.
The only thing Tarantino wouldn't work with Scott on was the ending, he wanted everyone dead. Scott wanted a more happy ending. So he hired Roger Avary to rewrite the ending.
tony scott is pretty sucky...a couple of directors that suck a whole lot more though are the likes of paul w.s anderson and michael bay. Those guys should be banned :P

I've only seen two of his films.
I thought deja vu was ordinary at best, in fact i fell asleep in the middle of it, admittedly i was really tired when i started watching it but still.
Spy Game was pretty good, nothing great...carried by Redford's performance.

He doesn't go out there looking for oscars. He just wants to make kickarse movies with badarse dudes. Domino is a blast and The Last Boy Scout is a masterpiece. The script by Shane Black is hilarious and so cool. You can just quote that movie for ages.
