Good coaching by Knights.

I think Knights has come in at a very good time for the Bombers.
I believe with what Sheedy has left him Knights could have a dream first year as coach.
You have to remember it was Sheedy who saw the way the game is heading and he was the one that got players along the lines of Davey, Jetta, Dempsey, Lovett, Lovett Murray, Ryder, Houli etc etc so IMO a lot of credit should be going to the great man himself instead of Knightsy.

Or maybe to the recruiting staff generally?

One of the (many) things that impresses me about Knights is the way he talks about the club. It's "us" and "our", like he's really connected and passoinate about Essendon, he doesn't go with impartial words like "the team" or "the boys" or "essendon", he really stamps his belonging into his statements.

I was never dirty on his selection, but I'm just as glad to see what he's shown so far.

as a former tiger i'm glad to see knighta start well and I think he looks the goods. couldn't believe the criticism he was getting before he even coached a game. seems to have injected a lot of pace into your game although still early days yet....

Far out. The only coach that looks worse in press confrences is Bailey. He still looks shy in front of the press and stutters and splurts. He'll get better.

Overall yeah okay he's done well but time will tell and singing his praises after one round is a little premature.

I just love the fact that all the players that Sheedy put faith in are looking the goods. Still on the Sheedy bandwagon if you couldn't guess.

If knighter is half as successful as Sheedy i will cut my bloody wrists!! I could not handle ANOTHER Tiger champion going to coach another club and doing it all.....please god no!!! I'll settle for a Richmond V Essendon GF but only if the Tiges win...........

Campo was the biggest rat footballer to disgrace the MCG. Shouldn't even mention him in the same league as Sheedy and even Knighter (I'm on it)

Been on since Bolts, Campo and Heff retired.

Would have been happy with Campo playing one more season rotating with JJ and Pev as the older more experienced guy (if it wasn't for his knee injury).

Yeah, it has gone very quiet in here, hasn't it?

People need to realise that a change of coach and a switch of gameplan won't, of themselves, solve all our problems.

There's a LOT of hard work still to be done, unfortunately; that much is obvious after today.

Yeah Bomber57 it's just slightly annoying that "your say" usually consists of negative comments coupled with a lack of understanding about the game.

I understand that we got flogged my a much better team, I will praise them when they do well but not today, We were beaten in the ruck, midfield, forward, and coaching,

Geelong played close contact football that stopped our running game so they could then swing the ball out wide and bring the ball into their forward line deep.

Geelong was hard at the ball, and had much better disposal skills that let them hit their targets from 35/40 meters away this in turn made your boys feel they were under pressure to dispose of the ball faster than they had to leading to costly turnovers.

Our only shinning light was Ryder.

Now does that sound like how the game went?

I'm not going to shoot the boys or knighter down.

There were 2 things that went wrong today.

Skill & Body Size, we were half their size almost all over the ground.

When we made mistakes they made us pay every time.

Ryder was sensational, Mooney's 2 goals, he could do nothing about and was our best on the day.

Rama also was good today.

As strange as it sounds when we were flogged by 99 points, but our pressure and tackling was really good and not rewarded by the umpires, I can't believe they only paid one holding the ball for the day.

Our key backs did a really good job considering the way the ball came down as well.

We need to stick together and not get down about this, today I honestly feel we would have beaten a lot of other teams, and I'm prepared to take a few floggings while playing our gamestyle, then get close play lock down crap that won't improve us as a team.

Stay United, today was not as bad as everyone is making it out to be...Geelong at the moment are clearly the best team, no shame in being beaten by the best. I take it as a compliment that they knew they had to bring their A game against us.

caboose
30 Mar 2008, 21:55
Yeah, you make some good points there, DarthAnnihl8or. One issue that hasn't been raised yet here as well is that we actually got 20 points closer to Geelong than Port did on Grand Final day. :o

As long as some lessons are learned and some hard work is done to ensure that our improvement keeps occurring, then none of us will be disappointed by that. Personally, I'm very pleased that Knights has committed himself to developing a faster-running and more attacking team - and hope he continues to go down that path.

No-one should be in any doubt after today, though, that becoming a great team in this league requires incredible effort and tactical nous and skill across a lot of facets of the game. We're still not at that level (self evidently) - and nothing short of bloody hard work from the coach(es) and the players will ever get us back up there.

BTW .. DonMania .. I'm not sure if anyone actually is getting off that bandwagon in your image. If anything, some of them look as though they're hanging on for dear life!

30 Mar 2008, 21:55
Your not gunna get a heap of positives out of a 99 point loss but the best thing was in the last part of the second quater after Geelong had kicked 4 or 5 in as many minutes, we were still prepared to take on the opposition and try to make things happen.

A lot of the time you'll see teams go into there shell and be too scared to play there own game and it was good to see that we backed our ability to run the ball.

Merv
30 Mar 2008, 22:02
I will praise them when they do well

Then where were you last week?

Or are you just going to lay the boots in when we get beaten and make references to Sheedy?
