Well deserved and a very good contender for the award at the end of the year.

Was very impressive. Expect him to play most matches this year and be a real chance for the award at the end of the year.

Woo, Houli is a gun in the making. We're finally getting some midfield depth so that when a player like Stanton is tagged we still have others who can chip in.

Wonder what his odds are now?!

n.brown was robbed. cant really see why houli was picked over him. in terms of impact on a match, brown was an influential player. the bombers won by 60 points, what could houli do wrong?

You're a class A peanut.

Give me a break. Nathan Brown held Pavlich to 21 possessions and 10 marks.

huh? i think you missed the point of my post.

by the AFL giving houli the nom it shows that one who plays a worse game will get the nod for the fact that their culture is different to another.

not having a go at houli, just the AFL.

did you see his game 3 weeks ago against wc. was bloody good. well deserved and no it wasnt because he was a muslim he simply was an influencial player. brown was helped with the freo fc.

Houli was in everyone's best players and picked up 26 touches. Brown played well but it was a close run thing either way. To say it's because of culture is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I'm all for you getting a red not simply for prejudice but because you are that idiotic the site will be better in your absence.

sorry for not agreeing with the AFL all the time.

You can disagree fine. But to imply that he wasn't worthy of it and that he only got it because of the fact he is a muslim is derogatory.

His faith has nothing to do with it, mantioning it in conjunction with a putdown is not cool.

sorry for not agreeing with the AFL all the time.

You agreeing with the AFL has nothing to do with it, it's the fact you said they gave it to Houli based on his cultural background which is idiotic. Please do us a favour and just piss off.

I've been pushing for this bloke to be named in the side since mid last year. Finally he is getting his chances to show how good he is.

Houli is a gun. He will be in the elite group of midfielders, I got no doubt about that.

He reminded me of two players.

Wanganeen like runs 'from the backline', where he would hit someone on the chest with a 45m foot pass and then follow it up and get the handball again. Wanganeen in 1993 did that so often. Also the bit of play where he booted the ball off the ground 30 odd meters but then followed it up and beat a couple of players who were fighting for the ball at exceptional speed and released a majestic handball to send the Bombers into attack. It was breath taking to watch. He also reminds me of Mercuri with his excellent skills.

Funny he was playing on Linsay Thomas in the back pocket for a while. Then the Kangaroos went into attack, where I think it was Hale who was going to mark it easily. Houli left his man and jumped up high and punched the ball away. Bruce McAvaney, (channel 7), mistakenly called him Mal Michael. Then realised his mistake when Michael was the one who picked up the crumps.

No doubts...he is the real deal.

N.Brown???

Whatever, don't people watch and see Freo bobbing it up over Pavlich's head, making it easy for the 1st gamer?

Exactly the same thing that happened to Hird when he was 'pantsed' by Clement for that one quarter, we kept bobbing it up, Hird got caught 2 or 3 times under the ball and the Pies fans couldn't get to their computers quick enough, despite tripping in all their drool

Houli through the NAB cup and the first game this season has beena very different player to the one that played a couple of games last year. Willing to back himself, use his pace and kick the ball, not just hanballing when an opponent was coming at him like last year. Looking forward to seeing him have a great season :)

And Pavlich still got the ball 21 times and took 10 marks, but because Brown was able to hold him to only 1 goal, the Pie's faithful are busy blowing their load over the new best defender in the game.

Hell I remember a game in 2006 when Bradley was playing on Pavlich and Pavlich lead him all over the ground and racked up touches and marks and ended up with similar stats to what he did this weekend but only kicked
1-2 goals.

Didn't see any of us blowing our loads over Keps after that performance.

But no I agree, the AFL were clearing trying to screw the Pies and pander to the Muslim community!!

They never give the rising star nomination on one weeks performance.... usually don't anyway. thats why houli got it this week. N Brown will need to back it up next week and maybe the week after to receive the nomination

dempsey could be a chance this week coming off his 20 posession game on the weekend, same with jetta who also had an impact.

Great performance by Bachar and thoroughly deserved. Wouldn't suprise me if he pinched a brownlow vote for the game either.

And the fool spouting the racist conspiracy theory, don't worry Brown will get his chance if he can continue his form. Don't expect a nomination for one decent performance. Anyway, even if Bachar hadn't have won it this week, I'm sure he'll put in several more nomination worthy performances in 2008 - and go close to winning the award based on performance and ability, not race/religion.

anyone who thinks N. Brown deserved is an idiot. He played on Pavlich for the majority of the match and still Pavlich got 21 disposals and took 10 marks. Incase your unaware, Houli played on Harvey (an elite midfielder) for alot of the match and managed to keep him quiet enough to make no impact.

Harvey was actually probably North Melbournes best player. He had a ripper game. Im not saying Houli was bad, im just saying he wasnt good because of what he did on harvey.

For all the hype surrounding Joel Selwood (I do think he's an absolute gun by the way), he has only once had more than 26 possessions. Bryce Gibbs has never had this many touches. Obviously this is only one game, but in this contaxt he is certainly looking very good.

id love it if he kicked more and layed a tackle/s ... 26 touches for 71 DT points isnt fantastic ...

from just an observative point of view you got a star in the making bombers

is Dempsey eligible?

Yes.

He is 20 & had 6 senior games to his name before 2008.

To be eligible for the award, a player must be under 21 on January 1 of that year, have played 10 or fewer senior games and not get suspended during the season.

Houli reminded me of Camporeale with his run from the backline and lace out kicking.

Pick 42 will be an absolute bargain if he can stay on the park.

Very well deserved by Bachar. Quick and has good disposal=:thumbsu::)and very happy Essendon fans. Will not be surprised at all to see him give the Rising Star award a shake this year. Hopefully he has a consistent year. His games last year were ok but he has stepped up a level.
We could realistically get 3-4 more nominations this year too. Dempsey looks destined for one this year and Jetta looks like he is more than capable of receiving one. Gumbleton/Neagle would be a chance, moreso Gumbleton as he has the unwanted tag of going no. 2 in the 2006 superdraft. Hislop is one bloke I want to crack into the seniors over the next month. Unfortunately he transgressed over the pre season so we didnt get a glimpse of him but I expect big things. Reimers caught the eye also. Good signs for the Bombers.
