Bad habits remian with Solomon. Glad we got rid of him. Team was going nowhere and we didnt need ill-disciplined players like him around the club setting a poor example for the kids. Also seems thats Fremantle havent changed from last season. Poor discipline is costing them far too often.

You guys have done pretty well giving players to freo haha nice trading :thumbsu:

I guess this is the "mental toughness" that Solomon brought to Freo that people were talking about in the "Freo as good as 2000 Bombers:Johnson" thread. glad we got rid of this hot head.

I always liked Solly, I thought he was quite versatile at Essendon, a tight, tough half-back, or a forward who could kick the odd goal.

The bump he layed ( and that's all it was, a bump ) 10 years ago would have been called showing some aggression, to put some doubts into the other teams mind when about to go and get the pill. Now when you run at a man and lay a bump, any head high contact is a free or a 2 week holiday. The game is changing before our very eyes into something completely different from what most have known and loved in the past. I've been told not to watch footy anymore because I get too frustrated with umpires and commentators. I'll just have to sit, watch, and bite my tongue I suppose.

And yes, I know head high contact is no good, but sh** happens.

I hope Solomon, MJ and Kepler all go well this year for Freo.

Bollocks he would have only received a reprimand and carry over points if it wasn't for his bad record and the fact that he contested it at the tribunal.

If he didn't contest it at the tribunal it would have only been a 1 week suspension and if it wasn't for his bad prior record he wouldn't have even got a week, and if he didn't make head high contact he wouldn't have had any problems at all.

Describe what happened. I was listening on the radio. This game sounds like it would be great to watch! Really tough and ferocious. I get the feeling there is more to come.....quarter time siren..look out...

Ling gets rid of the ball. Solly comes in and hits Ling in the face with his elbow

Smart move by Sheeds to get rid of him. His discipline was always an issue. Hasnt changed much. Looking at a lengthy suspension. I prefer Houli and Reimers myself:D Ling hasnt appeared since the incident. Might have a broken jaw. Sounds like a thuggish act.

On You Tube already, not bad. I am sure it wil be taken down because of the report footage rule.

But yes, one stupid act and he will be lucky to escape with less than 4 weeks.

Um there is certainly no rule like that. TV Networls are free to show what they want. Not sure what you are referring too. Saw it on tv and it was a gutless thing to do. 6 weeks.

Seeing how it hasn't been replayed once, I think Tim might be right....

I was never a Solomon fan. Always undisciplined, always stupid. I think for every free he got, he gave two away.

I hope he gets a stack of weeks for hitting Ling.

He deserves it. He deserves to be at Fremantle. He'll never learn. He's an idiot that will never change his ways.

I hope he gets 6-8 weeks. I don't buy the bullshit that is sure to come out.

"It was out of character. I'm not that sort of player. It was a brain snap. I tried to intercept the ball blah blah blah"

Dog act from someone who will be remembered for his disciplinary record first and foremost. Just like Barry Hall. Even before this year, everyone knew Hall was a thug. People don't change. They might keep their true self hidden for a while, but who they are is always just there below the surface.

Barry Hall is a thug. Dean Solomon is a stupid man that repeatedly commits idiotic acts. Retire now Solomon, you're a hack and a joke. You made your bed, now lie in it you dog. Take the rest of the year to look within and see if there is any chance you might ever be a fair and honest footballer.

In fact, with Freo's record, the whole club should be suspended. They are a disgrace.

I was a BIG Solly fan - have just found someone to replace him! He was a premiership player with us and made a big contribution to us winning that premiership. I loved it when he bumped other players and made the ground shake!!! He and the Johnnos had other teams quaking in their boots! I want us to be that way again - I think that Kyle Riemers is giving us that little bit of ferocity once again. Solly does have brain fades and shows a lack of discipline much more often in recent times. But I think that Freo would be happy with what he has bought to their team - finishing in the top of their best & fairest! He will do his time and I know personally that he is not a vicious or aggressive person and will return to that atrocious team known as Freo to finish his career.

No no, of course it can be replayed during the match.

The moment of contact can't be shown during news reports or on other TV shows and things like that.

very very harsh.

you should always remember that solly bled, and played hard for OUR club and was a distinguished member of our 2000 season.

yes, he did some (very) annoying and ill-disciplined things towards the end of his time with us that were very frustrating, but nevertheless show some respect.

his hit today was VERY ordinary, and there's no defence for that, and as a consequence he'll get a long holiday.
but don't ever forget what he did for our club, and how important he was for us years ago.
your signature is a disgrace.

Looks like LING will be out for 3-4 weeks after having surgery this morning.
Solly out for 3-6 weeks I'd say.

I did like Solly though, thought he was a great player in the red and black.
But he hasnt changed in regards to his disipline...so I am glad that he has gone.

Ouch. feel for Lingy, but I dont see Solomon as a thug or anything similar, he plays with his heart on his sleave always gives 100% and when you get in the mode sometimes you have a brainfade (a bit cliche but true).

Extremely harsh post....

Ramanauskas tonight described Solomon as his closest friend during his battles with cancer and stated that Solomon practically shared the disease with him.

A couple of undisciplined acts on the footy field doesn't make someone a complete and utter dog.

Just because some loser doesn't respect Solly's contribution to our club, doesn't mean the majority feel that way. Solly gave us 8 or 9 good years and besides the odd incident, has been good for Freo. His only reports between 2000-2006 were for engaging in melees (no suspensions), so his record wasn't that bad.

8 weeks seems really harsh - I would have thought 5 weeks was about right altho the extent of Ling's injury had to get some recognition. Just seems that for him to get more than Halis unfair. Yes Solly was definitely pretty late but at least the ball was in the same postcode. Interested to hear Mike Christian on Sport 927 say he's found himself in a similar position where he lines a guy up, realised at the last moment was going to be late and the in his words" the elbow just came up" He reckoned it was more reckless than intentional . Still Solly put his hand up for intentional - never plead guilty!

15 Jul 2008, 23:16
8 weeks is spot on.

In fact, he copped 6 weeks for the hit, and 30% loading which brought it up to 8 weeks.

Had it been someone with a clean record I think it would have been sorted at the MRP and with a 25% reduction with an early guilty plea (maybe even a further 25% if it was a player with an applicable good record), got off with maybe 4 or 5.

Disappointing for him though. From all reports, he is a great bloke......you just wonder why on-field, he is such a dog.

I'm glad we were able to get rid of him. At Essendon he was continually giving away free kicks and 50m penalties. Now he just keep raising the bar.

Can't imagine he'll play AFL again.........you'd have to have rocks in your head to offer him another contract. Luckily for him, his coach is the same guy that drafted Kepler and MJ so we may see him again.

Solly has been great for us and will be back next year again.:thumbsu: He always gives 100% and we could do with more like him.

His best games are right on the edge, this time he stepped over and stuffed up. Cop it on the chin and move on.

He's a required player at Freo and will be here for another 2-3 years at least. With the retirement of Troy Cook last year we need the big bodied hard nut to protect younger players.
Make no mistake, he's very popular with our supporters because he gives his 100% every time he steps onto the pitch and plays with more passion than some of our own local players.

I think he will get a one year contract and will be on a 'last warning' sort of thing. He was one of my favourite players and because of this i have been watching Freo games or looking up the stats since he has gone over there. He has been playing really well and his two years there have been a lot better then the last two at Essendon. He dropped a lot of weight at turned back into a running player. At Essendon he was told to bulk up and play as a defender which didn't suit him.
I'm happy that he isn't at Essendon anymore, since he still gets in trouble. Give him one more year at least.

I would be happy to have him at Essendon next year. Michael out, Solomon in. Some of the young emerging talent like Myers, Jetta etc. could benefit with someone like Solly around, and watching their backs.
