So yeh, what is the most disturbing film you've ever seen?
Emotionally disturbing, physically disturbing? What about it affected you so much?
I'll kick it off with my one that was just plain disgusting.
Irreversible
A french film that had 2 scenes in particular that i can't forget. Those that have seen it will know what i'm talking about.

Mine would have to be Straw Dogs starring Dustin Hoffman. The violence in the film is extremely chilling and it also features one of the most controversial rape scenes in the history of cinema.
It is a very disturbing film and a lot of people will be sickened by it.

If you want to be genuinely disturbed and ****ing scared for days afterwards, watch a Japanese horror film called 'Audition'.

A little off topic.... the most disturbing show that I've seen on fta tv -
An X-files episode about a hideous inbred hillbilly family where the father, sons & brothers were all banging the mother who had 3 amputated limbs and got around on a skateboard type contraption.
Never watched X-files again after that ep.

Blood Sucking Freaks....
This lovely bit of early Troma (They must have purchased the rights to it.) is extremely disturbing, not only is it 90 minutes of nude women running around but half the time they're getting chopped up in some manner. Sardu and Ralphus kidnap girls from the streets of New York City and then train them to be submissive slaves for wealthy clients. Have you ever seen a girl getting direct current through her nipples? It doesn't look fun. This is also one of the few, maybe only, films where a midget uses a girl's severed head to perform oral sex on himself! Well here's the plot: the master sadist runs a theater where they "pretend" to kill women for the audience. Unfortunately for Natasha he wants to do a real production with a talented artist... ...so Ralphus kidnaps her and Silo, which attracts the attention of Tom and Tucci. The cop just keeps blackmailing everyone and on opening night of the performance he demands payment from Sardu to keep the lid on. All heck breaks loose when the feral women Sardu couldn't train go on a rampage - eating Sardu, Ralphus, Tucci, and some others. Hardly a film for the whole family but it should be very popular among high school and young college dudes.

OMG!
I saw an X-Files episode when i was like 9 of a black guy (indian?) with no legs that got around on a skate-board thing.
It scared the absolute beejezuz out of me and i had nightmares for weeks after that.
I would probably laugh at his misfortune if i watched it now though.
Patrick Still Lives - The (fire) poker scene is deplorable.
Giallo e Venezia - The torture scene is grotesque.
Interestingly the victim in both these scenes is played by the same actress, Italian Sword & Sandal babe Mariangela Giordano.

The bit at the end where the feral chicks start eating their cocks as hot dogs is just plain hilarious!
I'm so desensitised nothing has disturbed me in a long time. I guess the first time I saw Irreversible it did... but the several times since I've watched it pretty easily. It's just a movie... a great movie.

:D... this sort of thing is happening more and more. Direct to video knock offs of high profile movies, with almost identical titles.
The De Palma/Johansson/Hartnett one is called "The Black Dahlia", the one you rented was "Black Dahlia", directed by Ulli Lommel, the poor man's Uwe Boll. And that's pretty damn poor.
The same director made "The Zodiac", to cash in on David Fincher's "Zodiac".

Cannibal Holocaust. Hands down the most f**ked up film ever, banned in about 52 countries.
directed by italian maestro ruggero deodato, 'cannibal holocaust' is a haunting, beautifully filmed masterpiece. deodato, known for a spattering of mostly laughable eroto-horror, hit the mark with a few wonderful pictures, notably 'house by the edge of the park,' 'jungle holocaust,' and this, his greatest film. contrasting powerful, horrific imagery with a gorgeous, melodic soundtrack by composer riz ortolani. the most impressive aspect of the film, however, is it's remarkable super-realism. i have seen very few horror films, if any, that are acted with such passion and naturality. the film is exploitative, extreme, brutal, and marvelous... see it!
Was the above comment useful to you?

THe Exorcist. ****ed me up for weeks when I first saw it, though it seems lame now.
oh, and
Cool as Ice starring Vanilla Ice. Very Disturbing.
Ichi the killer & Clockwork orange.
The Butterfly Effect was a dark and disturbing film. What I couldn't believe was the number of parents who had taken young children to see it. A movie that contains pedophilia, incest, animal cruelty, bullying, prison brutality, child abuse, suicide and murder is not suitable for children.
And while on the subject of films that are supposed to be suitable for kids, what were the makers of Lassie Come Home (1943), The Yearling (1946) and Old Yeller (1957) thinking? - (those born before 1980 will know what I mean). Is it any suprise that Generation Y & i-Generation wonder why Baby Boomers and Generation X have a less positive outlook on life, when their childhoods were blighted by watching kids films like this?

Seconded.
Anyone seen any of the Guinea Pig movies? They're not convincing, but the sensibility behind them is disturbing.

****ing masterpiece. The best piece of low budget film making I've seen.
There is a moment in TCM that always gets me. The leading lass has passed out after witnessing and enduring all sorts of horror. She then wakes up seated at the dinner table with the nutty clan.
For a few seconds there is a look of relief on her face as she believes she has awoken from a terrible nightmare. But as her eyes adjust she realises it is reality and only going to get worse. The terror in her eyes makes me shiver every time. Countless films have tried the same tactic since but never as effectively.
One of the reasons the original is so successful is the ambiance - you can almost smell the sweat, grease and rotting meat in the film's summer heat. A nasty added realism that adds to the 'flavour' of the horror.

You describe it so well... and you're right, the smell-o-vision experiment aside, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is the smelliest movie ever made. They burnt the odour or rotting flesh right into the celluloid. That's why it's a masterpiece.

Another movie that disturbed the crap out of me for some reason was 'Event Horizon'.
Evil dead disturbed me when I first seen it as a 15 yo, now I love it.
The Elelphant man also disturbed me when I first seen it because it showed physical ugliness versus human ugliness. Which was worse...human ugliness.
Schindlers List was disturbing, but a great movie

Apart from Ghost, Jerry Maguire , any Bruckenheimer movie and poor porn flick ET the Extra Testicle I would say beyond a doubt it was Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer. Henry makes all other serial killers tame by comparison.
No blood and gore but just the way he kills people so easily with no reason.
The scene where Henry and his 'mate' home invade a young family and what they do to them is just very very disturbing. I actually wish I never saw it. Nothing to gain from it at all.
Cannibal Holocaust. Hands down the most f**ked up film ever, banned in about 52 countries.
I didn't find this film disturbing at all, for me it had a real documentary feel to it. There were some squimish moments, but generally I thought it was one of Deodato's better films.
House on the Edge of the Park is probably his most disturbing picture. The scene where the David Hess character attacks the babysitter (who only looks about 13 or 14) is truly sickening.
David Hess, now there is a disturbed person, every film I've seen of his, he has played some psyhcotic rapist. And he does so convincingly. Scary dude.

Will check that out. I didn't think the MBTS sequels were any good, they just tried to go the gore angle, without much other substance.
The orignal Men Behind the sun though is something that stays for quite a while. Again for it's animal cruelty and use of real dead cadavers. Once you've seen it you never want to see it again.

Once Were Warriors, which is also one of the best movies I have ever seen.
Silence of the Lambs and Schindler's List as well, but they were just brilliant movies.
Once Were Warriors was on at 1 in the morning on Fox and I hadn't seen it so I watched it and when it finished I just sat there stunned.
