OK guys; go with me on this for a minute...
I saw some things in our perforamce last week that I haven't seen from the Tigers for a while:
- A young guy takes a courageous mark running with the flight of the ball... Cleve
- Another youngster backs into a contested situation to take a real gutsy grab... Bling
- A "veteran" throws himself backwards into a marking contest & gets smashed with no reward... Richo (though he always does these things)
- A young mid-fielder gets a heavy knock, goes off dazed but comes back on to continue contributing. Later gets his ear opened up in a head clash with claret flowing but still can be seen, bandaged up celebrating the win and singing the song with team-mates... Jacko
- A maligned fringe player gets brought down a little late so retaliates by clocking his opponent. Is then smacked when heading off the field, appears groggy but still returns to contribute... Cam
- A fiesty little defender gets into everyones face and in the words of Robert Walls, "is trying to kill anyone in a blues jumper"... Kingy
Add to this list...
Jake's interview outlining our pre-season torture training & team bonding experiences
Sarge emerging as a potentially unfashionable looking CHB throwing himself around fearlessly (J. Jess anyone? I hope so anyway)
Thursty at FB playing gutsy, accountable hard as nails defensive footy... and in long sleeves!
Those old enough will remember the Tigers from the early 70's. Much hated with a siege mentality, tough as nails and even a little mean & nasty!
I dunno how we will end up going this year but if i continue to see these sorts of tough & courageos acts with honest hard working basic footy application then I will continue to go along, shout, scream and bleed Yellow & Black week after week.

love it roachy, said a similar thing to my mates this week in that i don't think we're good enough yet to have a serious crack this year but for the first year in many thought we actually looked TOUGH enough to worry some of the better teams and be involved in some good contests. No doubt Wallace gave Bling a spray at half time. his committment was questionable in the first half and he was throwing himself at everything in that second half. I think that second half has set him up for a good year.

good read Roachy:thumbsu:
Kingy take a bow, until you came along this Tiger team were a bunch of timid kittens. Can see the improvement, it's almost tangible

good work roachy i agree totally i couldnt care if we finished last as long as a team of young guys is playing gustsy footy this thing i highlighted was the best thing that came out of the game for me if he had of kicked a goal it would have been 1 of the plays of the year:thumbsu:

LOVE your post Roachy - good to see the positives in light of all the criticism we've been copping lately. Youve raised very good points about the improvements our boys have made that will make a difference to the outcome of future games. Can't wait to see Cogs fully fit, Edwards and Polo back and Cotchin return from injury and a few games under his belt with the Burgers. :thumbsu:
Go Tigers!

Yer good post lets hope they back it up rnd 2 vs ROO,s cause a totally different kettle of fish than the blues.but if they can play with that intensity over 4quarters reackon they will be a great chance in a 50/50 game.c,mon Tigers.
Just watched the first half again and Wallace would have had a chubbie in the last minute of the second qtr.
55 Seconds to go, and Huges at full pace back with eyes up and only for the ball, took one of the guttsiest marks i have ever seen. If it was Riewoldt for the saints it would have been on the telly over and over and over. Awsome stuff.
15 seconds later in heavy traffic, Tambling powered through a heavy pack to deliver a perfect handball, then 10 seconds later was Richo ignoring personal saftey, putting his body on the line for "that mark" the crap ump didnt pay.
Wallace would have been beaming.

I agree, it was fantastic to see this.
Now the key is to make sure this commitment to teammates and the club is shown every week without fail.

Pattison's efforts I think in the 2nd quarter can be added to the list, spoiled a mark, continued throwing his body in the pack and finished off with a crunching tackle on a blues player for a ball up. All that in the space of 20 seconds. Great effort for a big man.
Tamblings mark going back with the flight was as tough as you will get:thumbsu:
Beautifully said Roachy, I have been thinking the same thing since watching the game. There was something different about the boy's compared to last season, the passion and willingness to put their bodies on the line, to set up teammates and to BELIEVE in themselves.
Ingenuity plus courage plus work equals miracles - Tigers 08!

Last year we defiantly took a step forward in player development even though the ladder didnt reflect such progress!!!
1. Adam Pattison in the Ruck - would never have gotten the experience if Simmo hadnt been struck with injury. He was once originally the whipping boy, all of us questioning his spot in the team. The kid has heart and with the confidence from last yr expect to see more consistancy in his performance.
2. Mcguance/Moore - If we had of kept Gaspar/Kellaway on the list they would of hindered their development. last yr they were exposed to senior footy. During the pre season they would of received confidence knowing that wil be regulary selected. Also put in Thirsty into that mix

bet your Mrszzz were happy on wedding night about that 4 seconds when you hit the Jex and it was all over ....
One day we will walk down and f..k all those cows .... instead of our current mentality of sprinting down like Matt Shirvington to root one of them ....;)
