View Full Version : Headland appreciation thread
Honestly the guy has come out guns blazing this year. Probably 4-5 kicks over the last few weeks have let him down. But all the Headland nay sayers stating he doesn't go in hard enough are full of crap.
I don't know the stats but its pretty obvious he would be leading our clearances this year. Some of his work in close has been superb.
The guy has lifted his endurance to a new level and doesn't look out of place in the centre square.
Well done Des on a big Preseason followed by a great start to the year.

I didn't notice him all that much at the game, but gosh, after watching the game on TV I thought he played exceptionally well, and certainly in my mind was the best for Freo on ground last night.
It did seem like every 2nd goal Des had a hand in it.
Probably been our best player across the 2 games so far.

Superb, sublime, hard at it. Lots of run and pace. Good things. At training he came straight up to my baby girl and signed her Freo shirt, which was bonza! Good on ya Dezzie!

Dez has been great for you guys, I am not a big fan of the bloke at all but it seems he really feeds off having his back against the wall. He is stepping up and shows glimpses of a player he should be if he found more conistantcy. He has played 2 good games in a row IMO and wish him the best with his football.

Looks like he is set for a huge season. Easily our 2nd best player behind Pav imo.
Best thing is he's doing all the hard things too.... diving in head first, chasing, tackling, getting in and under. Very impressive.

yeah amount of times he charged into a contest with his head over the ball was inspiring. The way the indigenous players always manage to keep the ball infront of them when its loose on the ground is amazing

It's just carrying on from last seasons form. He hasn't gone up a notch just maintained the same standard. It just takes some people a while to catch on.

Yep i thought he did well last season to except becuase he played the majority up forward wasnt getting the same amount of touches.
Now hes where ive always believed he should be playing primarily in the midfield where seeing him almost back to his best.

He is an extremely important player for us and his form has been very good.
Lets hope he stays cool if he is tagged by Selwood.

He has been growing in stature over the last 2 years. I don't think he really has it in him to be the gun clearance player which we desperately need. Will have to watch the replay to check again.

He has certainly lifted his game since mid last year... he just suddenly got more commited for the footy, and has lifted his workrate. Dessy is getting the thumbs up so far for the season.

Probably didn't want to be shown up by palmer. A lot of older players play better when pushed. Still he's not even a gun.

Stop watching thru yellow and blue glasses.He/s one of the best and Worstfold would kill to have him in your slow ,very slow midfield .

You lack a player like Dessie desperately, and he will tear you apart in the Derby, go away you troll.

Stop watching thru yellow and blue glasses.He/s one of the best and Worstfold would kill to have him in your slow ,very slow midfield .We do need someone who can finish like him. His pace isn't why we need him, we just need another finisher to support our abundance of inside mids. But he's not a gun yet until he at least has a whole season like this.
